Chapter 493 - Chapter 493: The Medicine Puppet Body

To forge a new body for Yao Chen, Xuan Kongzi used the corpse Xiao Yan had brought back from the destruction of the Tiangang Human Hall.

The Yin-Yang Reversal Pill was already in Xuan Kongzi's possession—a miraculous 8th Tier Pill capable of blurring the line between life and death. No matter how grievous the injury, as long as a breath remained, this pill could preserve life. It was the ultimate life-saving treasure.

Deep within the Pill Tower, in Xuan Kongzi's secluded cultivation chamber, the process began.

For Yao Chen's sake, he devoted immense effort, refining a pool of medicinal liquid from over a thousand precious herbs. The corpse Xiao Yan had prepared was submerged in it, its broken flesh steadily knitting back together as the days passed. After three full days, the wounds were entirely healed, and the skin glowed with a lifelike hue.

"It's about ready," Xuan Kongzi said solemnly, sitting cross-legged beside the pool. "When I give the order, swallow this pill immediately and merge with the body." He produced a jade bottle, tossing it lightly toward Yao Chen.

Yao Chen caught it, his expression calm but grateful as his eyes fell on the body floating within the shimmering medicinal pool, radiating faint vitality. "Understood. Thank you for your help, old friend."

Xuan Kongzi chuckled quietly. "We've known each other for too many years—don't say such things. You owe your life to the efforts of many old friends. Live it well."

"I will," Yao Chen replied firmly.

The chamber fell silent except for the gentle bubbling of the liquid as it circulated into the body, its aura growing increasingly powerful—stronger even than when it was alive.

Then, at Xuan Kongzi's shout, the ritual began.

"Enter!"

Yao Chen didn't hesitate. He crushed the jade bottle, swallowed the pill inside, and his spirit form blurred into motion—darting into the body in a streak of light. The corpse shuddered violently, its eyes snapping open as faint light flickered in the once-empty pupils.

"Heh!"

Xuan Kongzi formed a rapid hand seal, his deep voice echoing through the chamber. The medicinal pool roared to life, its contents surging upward and spiraling into a vortex that poured into the corpse.

The liquid entered the veins and meridians, transforming into waves of surging energy that flowed through the entire body, infusing flesh and bone with life. Meanwhile, the Yin-Yang Reversal Pill released its medicinal power, linking Yao Chen's soul and the body together like an unbreakable bond.

The immense influx of energy pushed the body toward collapse, yet the pill's power stabilized it at the brink, holding it in perfect balance between destruction and rebirth.

Gradually, Yao Chen's Spiritual Power spread through every fiber, fusing seamlessly with the vessel. The body began to shift, reshaping itself into his likeness. Even the aura it emitted grew indistinguishable from Yao Chen's own.

Xuan Kongzi exhaled deeply as he watched the fusion stabilize. A faint smile crossed his lips, though his heart felt heavy.

The Spirit Puppet Technique's greatest challenge lay in resistance—most souls refused to inhabit a dead vessel. But Yao Chen had willingly fused with the body, greatly simplifying the process.

Still, this method carried its curse. No matter how powerful this "Medicine Puppet" became, it would never truly live again. Its vitality would forever depend on medicinal liquid to sustain it. Yet so long as that supply continued—and his soul did not collapse—he could exist indefinitely. A living dead man suspended between life and death.

"Now it's too late to regret," Xuan Kongzi murmured. "Unless a supreme powerhouse one day carefully separates your Soul Essence from this vessel, this state can never be undone."

The body in the pool faintly shimmered, as if responding to his words.

Three days later, the liquid was completely absorbed, leaving only a clear pool of water. Suspended above it lay a white-robed elder's body—Yao Chen's new form.

His aura was vast like an ocean, his vitality surging like a fierce beast, yet something about him still felt inhuman.

Suddenly his eyes snapped open, releasing a wave of energy that sent ripples through the air and blasted the pool water upward. Slowly, he stood and flexed his hands—opening and clenching them repeatedly, his face distant with mixed emotions.

"I thought I'd feel more alive… but it seems this isn't much different from being dead."

Xuan Kongzi rolled his eyes. "I told you already. You're not truly alive—you're a Medicine Puppet. But in terms of combat strength, you should be even stronger than before."

Yao Chen gave a wry smile. He had harbored faint hope, but now his body was cold within, the blood replaced by medicinal essence that merely sustained his vitality. Once it was depleted, he would become a corpse again. Regret flickered briefly, but it was too late for that now.

Gathering himself, he smiled faintly and nodded. "Still, my strength is about that of an initial Half Saint, and it's still rising as I absorb the world's energy. At full potential, I should reach the level of a high-level Half Saint."

A flash of surprise crossed Xuan Kongzi's eyes. Yao Chen's improvement exceeded expectations. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Perhaps because you were once a peak Dou Zun, and now your Heaven Realm Soul perfectly harmonizes with the body. That fusion may have triggered the leap."

"Hmm." Yao Chen nodded, descending from the air with calm composure. "All in all, this outcome is good. It gives us a real chance against the Hall of Souls. How long has it been?"

"Six days," Xuan Kongzi replied, patting the dust from his robe. "The Hall of Souls is expected to act in four more days. With your current strength, you should make it in time. I, however, can't go—I've been confined by the Pill Tower Elders."

Yao Chen smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder before turning to leave. "That's enough. From here on, it's time for me to settle old scores. The Hall of Souls may be powerful, but they cannot act without consequence."

"Be careful," Xuan Kongzi said quietly. "The Hall of Souls isn't easy to deal with. Stay alive."

"I will."

Outside the hall, Xiao Yan had been waiting anxiously. When Yao Chen stepped out, his eyes lit up with relief and joy.

"Teacher! You look completely normal! It seems Senior Xuan Kongzi's revival method didn't leave much of a drawback after all—" He grasped Yao Chen's hand, only to freeze at its icy touch. His expression fell as he dropped to his knees with a heavy thud. "Teacher, I'm sorry… I've made you suffer. Are you—still yourself?"

"It's fine," Yao Chen said softly, helping him up. "At least I'm alive—and stronger than ever. It's time to return to the Falling Star Pavilion. The Hall of Souls must pay for what they've done."

Xiao Yan nodded fiercely, hatred burning in his eyes. "Yes!"
