Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Suicune's Traces

As for Quilava, it naturally stood perfectly fine beside the Feraligatr.

"You worked hard, Quilava."

Jack took out a Poké Ball to recall it, then turned to look at the siblings. At this moment, the two siblings were stunned, seeing the Feraligatr's tragic state.

"How could this happen? Wasn't it just an act?" the young woman muttered, her face pale.

The young man, on the other hand, was speechless, sitting limply on the ground with a bloodless face, the Feraligatr's resentful gaze plunging him into extreme self-reproach.

"You can't blame me for this. I already warned you, but you yourselves refused to surrender."

Jack walked over, picked up his number card, and exchanged it with the young man's. Then he took the phone from the young man's pocket and transferred money to himself. The young man did not stop this series of actions. He just stared blankly at the Feraligatr, which was severely injured, not far away.

After the transfer, Jack returned the phone. Seeing that the young man still showed no reaction, he couldn't help but nudge him and then reminded him.

"What are you still dazed for? If you don't want it to really die, then hurry and send it to a Pokémon Center for treatment. I'm kind-hearted and left you ten thousand, so don't thank me too much."

With that, Jack deftly turned and left. He was afraid that these two would react and question him about how the Quilava used Thunder, Rock Slide, and Hyper Beam.

Once he was far away, Jack took out a Poké Ball and muttered to himself.

"Mew, what's going on with you? Look at how badly you beat this Feraligatr; it's too tragic! And why did you even use Thunder? What if someone found out? Luckily, your master is quick-witted and managed to fool those two."

In his mind, Mew's voice immediately rang out.

"Master, I'm sorry. It's because this Feraligatr was too tough. I transformed into many Pokémon, and even after fighting for a long time, it kept getting up again and again. In the end, I had no choice but to use Thunder, Rock Slide, and Hyper Beam."

"It's that resilient?" Jack's eyebrows slightly raised after hearing this. He looked back and saw that the young man had already recalled the Feraligatr and was running towards the Pokémon Center with his sister. With Mew saying that, he felt this Feraligatr had the potential to become a demigod. Just its indomitable will alone was very impressive. It's just that its Trainer wasn't that great. He only hoped that the young man wouldn't bury this Feraligatr with immense potential.

"Mew, you must be tired after fighting for so long, right? Let's go eat something. What to eat and where to eat is up to you."

No longer worrying about the Feraligatr, Jack smiled, looked around, and then released Mew. A red light flashed, and the adorable Mew floated out. It circled around Jack once.

"Master, let's go eat beef noodles and beef pancakes again. I still want to eat them," Mew said excitedly.

"Alright, alright, but you should quickly turn invisible. It would be troublesome if someone recognized you," Jack affectionately stroked Mew's small head.

The next second, the adorable Mew vanished from Jack's sight. But on his shoulder, a sudden weight appeared.

"Let's go."

Mew's voice urged in Jack's mind.

An hour later, Jack and Mew, full and satisfied, left the restaurant. Just ten minutes ago, the number 2 card in Jack's hand began to flash. According to the Yellow-Haired Youth at the Gym entrance, he and Mew needed to reach the Gym within 30 minutes. Although 10 minutes had already passed, reaching the Gym in the remaining twenty minutes was still not a problem.

Eighteen minutes later, Jack arrived at the Gym. Midway, he had Mew transform into a Pikachu and stand on his shoulder. This Gym was a Flying-type Gym, and Electric-type was a natural counter. For clever tactics like the number 2 strategy, it's best not to bring them out and make a fool of oneself when facing Gym Leaders, who are the cream of the crop in the Pokémon world. More crucially, whether they fall for it or not is secondary; exposing Mew's identity is the most dangerous thing.

It's like the principle of not flaunting one's wealth. Before truly becoming a very powerful person, sometimes it's better to be low-key... He arrived at the Gym entrance. Jack showed his number card to the Yellow-Haired Youth. The Yellow-Haired Youth was a bit surprised; he remembered that the young man in front of him should have the number 21 card. But despite his surprise, the Yellow-Haired Youth didn't ask further. He knew that if Jack could get the number 2 card, it meant he had defeated the guys in the park.

"Go in, the Gym Leader is waiting for you inside."

The Yellow-Haired Youth let Jack in. Inside the Gym, the battle arena was a plaza, and a young man with short, bright blue hair was waiting for Jack. He stood on the battle platform, his expression a bit tired. The continuous challenges from Trainers these past two days had left him utterly exhausted.

So, when Jack arrived at the opposite platform, he didn't exchange many pleasantries but directly released his Pokémon. A Pidgeotto, the evolved form of a Pidgey.

"I'm Falkner. Let's begin the challenge," the young man said directly after stating his name.

"Go." Jack looked at the very tired young man. He had originally been somewhat excited about challenging the Gym, but suddenly felt bored. He shrugged, signaling Mew, who had transformed into Pikachu, to jump into the arena.

"Pika!"

Mew flipped off Jack's shoulder and leaped into the battle arena. Its cheeks occasionally flashed with electricity.

"Pidgeotto, Gust!" Falkner gave the first command.

"Pidgeot!"

Pidgeotto rapidly flapped its wings, creating a strong Twister that rushed towards Mew.

"Pikachu, use Dig to dodge!" Jack said.

"Pika."

Mew, transformed into Pikachu, had electricity flash through its hands and quickly dug a hole in the ground, burrowing in. The Twister swept past, and Pikachu, hidden in the hole, was unharmed.

The young man on the opposite side saw this, and a hint of surprise emerged in his tired expression. Pikachu that could learn Dig were not common.

"Pidgeotto, lower your altitude, use Wing Attack, and wait for it to pop out," the young man began his second command.

Pidgeotto obeyed, flying low, fully extending its wings, and circling the Pikachu's hole, waiting. At that moment, it would strike it by surprise.

Jack's mouth curved slightly upward; this command was exactly what he wanted. He watched Pidgeotto, and as it flew at its lowest altitude, he quickly commanded.

"Pikachu, Discharge!"

The next second after the words fell, Mew, receiving Jack's command, instantly poked its head out of the hole, and dazzling Thunder Shock erupted from its chubby cheeks. Like an Electric Shock feast, with an extremely wide range, the low-flying Pidgeotto was immediately enveloped within it.

Two seconds later, Pidgeotto, with no resistance to Electric-type moves, fell to the ground, electricity lingering between its wings. However, it hadn't lost its fighting ability. Facing Pikachu, it struggled to flap its wings and fly again.

"That's enough, Pidgeotto." On the platform, Falkner decisively recalled Pidgeotto into its Poké Ball. As a Gym Leader, he knew well that his Pidgeotto no longer had any chance of winning, and continuing to fight would only result in being trampled.

"You win, the Zephyr Badge is yours." Falkner took a box from his pocket and waved to Jack on the opposite platform, signaling him to come and get it.

"It's over already?" Jack was very surprised. He remembered that a Gym Leader should at least use two or more Pokémon. But he had only defeated one.

With doubts, Jack walked down the platform and headed to the other side. Upon reaching Falkner, Jack asked the question in his mind: "Where are your other Pokémon?"

Falkner took out five Poké Balls from his waist and threw them out.

"Come out, everyone."

Five red lights flashed, and in mid-air appeared a Beautifly, Pidgeot, Skarmory, Pidgey, and the Pidgeotto from just now.

"As the first stop for challenging Gyms in the Johto Region, you only need to defeat my Pidgeotto and Pidgey here. Beautifly, Skarmory, and Pidgeot are not what you need to face."

"Your Pikachu is excellent. Being able to learn Discharge and Dig already gives it the strength to defeat my Pidgey and Pidgeotto, so there's no need to continue fighting."

Falkner explained.

The meaning was simple: as long as one had the strength to defeat his Pidgeotto and Pidgey, they could obtain the badge from him. As for the other three fully evolved Pokémon, they were not meant for challengers.

Jack raised an eyebrow upon hearing this and reached out to take the badge. Just then, the Yellow-Haired Youth guarding the Gym entrance ran over and said to Falkner.

"Gym Leader, one of the Legendary Beasts, Suicune, the embodiment of the North Wind, has appeared on Route 32. It's currently battling someone. Do you want to go and see?"

"Suicune! Are you sure?!"

Falkner's expression jolted. He had been so tired just moments ago that his eyelids could barely stay open, but his fatigue instantly vanished, replaced by excitement. He turned to apologize to Jack, tell him to leave, and say he had important matters to attend to and wouldn't chat with him.

However, as soon as he turned his head, the words that were about to come out of his mouth caught in his throat. Because Jack, who had been standing on the opposite side just a moment ago, was now at the Gym entrance, holding Pikachu. He was rushing out like crazy. As if he had won the lottery at home.
