Chapter 6 - Gene unlock potion

Back in his room, Lucien decided to check the system. He had seen some techniques in the system's mall. He had chosen the sword, dagger and halberd because he had related techniques.

He specially bought the halberd for Arthur.

Ever since he could remember, Arthur has had a fondness for things like spears and halberds. According to him, the halberd is the king of medieval weapons. He enjoyed using spears but found halberds had a wider range of uses. So he gradually switched to using a halberd.

In recent years, Arthur hasn't practised with the halberd as much as he used to. Which is to be expected since he has had to step up and take over the business their parents left behind as soon as he came of age.

But the few times Lucien had seen Arthur practise, he couldn't take his eyes away. He used the halberd as if it were an extension of his body. Lucien would watch as he thrust and swung the halberd, keeping his stance stable. He watched Arthur flow from one move to another.

Lucien sometimes couldn't stop himself from wishing he were fighting alongside Arthur. When the battle ended, he would get to see Arthur's nude form. Perhaps when taking a bath or seeing him shirtless. It didn't matter. There were also times he thought, to himself, that he wouldn't mind if Arthur speared him, and not with the halberd.

Breaking free of his imagination, Lucien subconsciously touches his lip, thinking back to when he almost kissed Arthur. Luckily, he had his wits about him; otherwise, he didn't know what would happen.

"System 16, pull up basic knife and sword skills. Also, let me see some halberd skills."

For the basic sword and knife skills, Lucien noted that one of each appeared.

[On Zarinth, basic skills were compiled, modified and upgraded, resulting in a universal 'basic' skill].

So everyone uses the same basic techniques, Lucien thought to himself.

Hearing what the system said, Lucien had the idea to check the basic halberd skills. He didn't know how to use a halberd, but if Arthur saw it, he might have some insights.

Even if he doesn't need them now, there might be someone on their future team who likes to use the halberd like Arthur.

The vast number of halberd techniques caught Lucien a little off guard. He expected there to be some, but he didn't realise there would be so many. Each had its own distinct feature, such as Sunburst slash, which focuses on attacking or Sky Spin for defence.

Lucien was sure that if he wanted to check skills for the sword or dagger, he would find even more techniques. However, it wasn't time for that yet. He still needed to start with the basics before he moved on to something else.

Lucien looked at the cost of the basic skills. Each costs 300 points. He would have to train for a little more than a week to afford them.

He again looked at the training schedule the system had given. He looked at the part where it said he can add training. He thought about whether the training value would change if he added basic sword and basic dagger techniques.

Deciding not to ask, he would wait to see if there were any changes at that point.

He was also curious to know if there was anything else he could do besides training. He would see results immediately. He knew, however, that over the course of six months, there would be considerable changes.

"System 16, is there anything I can use besides training to help me get stronger?"

Lucien watched the screen in front of him as it switched from weapon techniques to medicines and potions. He knew there must be something there.

[Host, letting your body advance naturally is a good thing. However, the mall does contain potions that can help you. You do not have enough points.]

He rolled his eyes when he heard points being mentioned. It had only been a day. He was sure he would be able to get more points.

"Which potion do you think would be suitable for me? For body training."

Instead of answering, the system pulled up two potions. One is body strengthening, while the other is gene unlocking.

[Body strengthening potion enhances the various functions of the body. Whereas the Gene unlocking potion changes the body more fundamentally.]

The gene unlocking caught Lucien's attention, so he asked, "When you say fundamentally changes the body, what do you mean?"

[In simple terms, it activates the genes in the DNA and remodels them.]

"So, it makes me stronger, just like body strengthening?"

[No, host. Gene unlocking fixes DNA, body strengthening is exercise on steroids.]

Lucien couldn't help but laugh when he heard the term 'exercise on steroids'. Honestly, he was grateful the system didn't give a scientific explanation. He wouldn't be able to follow if it did. Keep it plain and simple, he likes that.

He couldn't help himself and felt the need to tease the system a bit, "Exercise on steroids? Is that kind of stuff you have in your database?"

[System 16 was able to tap into the network resources of this planet. For the past few hours, I have been interacting with all the data found on this planet.]

"What?!" Lucien jumped up so quickly he almost fell off the bed. "What do you mean by all data?"

[As long as the information was uploaded, System 16 can find it. I am also able to find information from a specific computer, such as yours. Now accessing file Lonely days...]

Before the system could say anything else, Lucien stopped him.

He knew what that file was. As shameless as he was, he couldn't help but blush when he heard the name of the file the system was trying to pull up.

He didn't think any further about the system accessing his personal files. He wanted to know what interesting things it had found while scouring the internet. He couldn't help the quiet thrum of anticipation that spread through his body.

If System 16 can access all information on the internet, it should be able to release information. If necessary, he could warn the government or the common people. It may lessen some of the casualties.

He didn't need recognition because people would think he was crazy if he really signed his name to something like that. He preferred to be anonymous.

But that wasn't something he would do now. When the disasters started, he would think about whether to warn them or not.

He would never allow himself to be imprisoned or seen as a saviour. People are too ungrateful for him to do that. If there came a time he slipped up, he would be condemned by all.

He preferred to be the bad guy and not have to worry about that.

"Are you looking at data now?" Lucien asked, his eyes as bright as stars.

[Currently, System 16 is accessing a file named Operation DeepSea.]

"Can you tell me about it?"

[Operation DeepSea is marked as classified by your planet's government. Do you still wish to know?]
