Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Isla's Pov

Isla stood facing her window as she watched the world wake up. It would be only a couple of hours before the news spread all around. News of the fraud Wolfe Groups had carried out.

She was sure the news had flown by now, Adrian would no longer be oblivious to the little game she had been playing for a while now, she was glad about that little fact because she couldn't wait to get rid of him herself, she wanted to give him the finger and look him in the ears while all he had worked for came crashing down.

Her phone buzzed and she picked it up immediately,

"Hello," She said, the smirk still planted firmly on her voice when Dante's deep voice came from the other side.

"How are you feeling right now Mia Regina?" He asked, his voice coated in amusement.

"I feel satisfied, to a certain extent and this is only just the beginning," She admitted, the old her wouldn't admit it but there was something about who she was becoming that had no qualms being honest about what offended her and what didn't.

"You've always had a knack for bringing men to their knees," He said softly and she stiffened a little before relaxing again. They hadn't spoken much about their past, almost like it was an unspoken agreement between them, she knew they would eventually have to face it, she just didn't think it would be this soon.

"Hardly," She responded with a snort, maybe if she acted like it was no big deal, he would too right? Wrong it was Dante she was dealing with, he thrived in the most uncomfortable of environments, and making people feel the same was his favorite pastime.

"You brought me down to my knees, now you're doing the same with Adrian, just in a different way," Dante said, the amusement more prominent in his voice, most likely because he could feel how uncomfortable this conversation made her.

"What is your real reason for calling? Did we miss a thing?" Isla asked, changing the topic, she had an empire to destroy, she had no time to talk about 'feelings' with her ex who also happened to be the man helping her.

"My real reason for calling was to check up on you, Adrian knows about everything so you need to be careful today when dealing with him," Dante explained, all traces of unseriousness gone from his voice.

"I understand, I'll keep you up to date, but for now if you don't mind, I have an empire to destroy," She said and cut the phone, smirking to herself, she found herself doing more and more of that.

With a sigh, she kept her phone down and went searching for her outfit of the day, she had no doubt, today was going to be a day she remembered for a long time to come.

************

As she made her way down through the elevator, her phone continued to ping. Her small brand she had launched little by little was no longer a secret. It had stolen front pages in magazines just this morning, she had to admit Dante was good. Without the man's connections, she wouldn't be able to achieve a quarter of what she had managed to achieve, because of him she was miles ahead in her plans.

Journalists, Investors, and all wanted to meet with her, with this small fashion company that seemed to have become an overnight sensation.

She made her way into the office, and the whole place was buzzing just as she expected it to be. Employees looked more nervous than usual, all making sure to keep busy, in case Adrian decided to show up, Lord knew he wasn't in a good mood, and that mood was about to worsen.

She made her way up to his office, because she was still technically his assistant, and there were no restrictions. When she got up, she made her way straight to his office.

Passing the new assistant who looked like she could vomit and die anytime, she beelined for his door and knocked.

"Come in," His tired voice said from the other side.

Wiping the grin off, she walked in and her eyes met his. He looked more tired and much older than she remembered, could someone really age that much in less than 24 hours? It was clear he had gotten little to no sleep if the eye bags under his eyes were to be believed.

"Isla, " He started but was quickly cut off.

"Don't even bother, I'm just here for business," Isla stated, her voice flat as she dropped the file on Adrian's desk. He stared at her flatly before hesitantly reaching for the files, confusion evident in his eyes.

He went through them quickly, his expression getting more and more deadly as he went further until the end. He looked up at her, his eyes murderous as he regarded her like he was seeing her for the very first time.

"What the hell is this?" he asked, even though he knew exactly what the hell it was. Isla was not moved by the anger in his tone, she smiled instead and decided to lay it all out for him.

"Remember that little idea I gave you for tech? The one you failed to pay attention to and neglected because it was my idea? It's mine now, those are the papers of ownership, and all the staff there are mine, you signed that document months ago, have you forgotten so soon?" She explained, her voice and tone innocent as she stared at him, waiting for his next move, she was having way too much fun.

"So it is true then? You are the owner of Mira Holdings?" He asked, his voice tight.

"I'm glad you finally caught up, I'll be honest I didn't expect everything to go down this quickly but the sooner the better, right?" Isla said with a smile as Adrian just continued to stare at her in confusion.

"Listen Isla, whatever you think you're doing—" he started but Isla cut him off, all playfulness gone from her face like it never existed.

"I'm just doing what you failed to do a long time ago, taking care of me," Isla said before she stood and walked out.

Never again would she allow anyone to take advantage of her in the name of love. She'd never let herself be that weak for anyone ever again.
