(Hmm... What could this be?)
In my elongated tongue is a deep red rock with the size of a baseball. I found it in the chest of the orc, right beside its heart. It is a prism in the shape of the pyramids attached together.
For some reason, I can feel a mysterious force radiating from it. Curious, I try to take a bite of it, but it is harder than I thought. When he exerts his max bite force, the prism shatters, and most of its shards fall into the my mouth.
T'KRAK!
(Ugh!)
The sharp shards hit my insides and they hurt me a little bit. After that, the shards are then absorbed by my interior flesh like how it digests bones earlier. Shortly after, I start to feel some subtle change in my body, but it is more like a power-up.
(Did I just feel lighter? Did that rock do something to my body?)
Although it's small, I can feel that my body has become stronger. To convince my that I am right, I lick the remaining fragments of the prism on the floor. As expected, I gains a little power.
Even within my, there is this something that is getting more prevalent. It feels like something magical is slowly awakening in me, which makes him ask a question.
(If, in case, I am transported by another magic, could it be that there is magic? Given that I am a mimic eating an orc as well as the night vision, it could probably exist to a certain extent.)
To further prove my theory, I turn around to face the empty hallway before trying to cast magic on my own.
(Alright, I'll start with the basic and staple in games. Fireball.)
...
I wait and wait, but nothing happens. It is my first time doing it, so it could probably be a rookie mistake. Refusing to give up, I do it again and again, but still nothing changes. I then try to change strategy. Perhaps I lack imagination, so I try to visualize a ball of flames or water.
(Fireball. Waterball. Abra Kadabra. Alakazam.)
...
Even with that, I still proceed to fail repeatedly. And then suddenly, I remembers that I forget an important aspect of magic: invocation, incantations, or recitation of the spells.
However, the problem is that I anatomically cannot utter a single word, just growls. Thankfully, I can solve that problem by eating the orc's mouth and vocal cords. Unfortunately, his brethren have eaten them while he is trying to magic.
(There can't be only one orc in this place. There might be other monsters around.)
Passing by the orc's carcass, I move further into the unknown, looking for other things to devour. I might as well look for the exit of this place. There may be a place where the sun basks its light.
◆◇◆◇◆◇
As I explore the place with no exact destination, I travel for a few hundred meters before I find another dead body of an orc. It is lying headfirst, facing the same direction as the one before, and seems to have died not long ago. I suspect that it might also have died from extreme heat due to the burns on its skin.
(Time to dig in.)
Chomp!
With a new food source, I immediately open my mouth wide and devour its head in just one big bite. Since taking that prism earlier, he has gained the strength to easily break apart the joints.
After the head, I proceed to the upper torso and leave a huge rectangular bite mark on it, taking some of its internal organs. With the vocal cords absorbed, I immediately recreate it inside my body, which is seemingly successful, and attempts to utter a word.
"HE-LL-O..."
(I did it!)
For the first time in this body, I am now able to speak. Well, even if my word is barely recognizable. Even so, I am so thrilled that I am jumping all around, repeatedly stomping my body on the rigid floor. Suddenly, my excitement immediately disappears as soon as I hear something that is not definitely made by me.
Rumble. Rumble.
The sounds are in sequence with a certain interval and coming from the direction I came from. They feel heavy, and their volume is gradually getting louder every second.
I am afraid that the sounds are made by a huge being, something that I have no chance fighting to. Knowing that I have likely no chance against something that sounds huge, I hurriedly stabs the chest of the orc's carcass and takes its deep red prism before bouncing my body away from the sounds.
After traveling for around a hundred meters, I pass a huge opening in the hallway, which I then decide to enter. I peep a part of his body outside and relocate one eye there. By doing that, it allows me to get a view of that monster.
Thud. Thud.
Turning around a sharp corner at the end of the massive hallway, the monster finally reveals itself. The first thing I note is that it is ridiculously big and massive. Each of its steps generates a small quake. If his perception is still right, that monster stands at least twenty meters in height.
It is shaped like a humanoid, which consists of a torso, arms, legs, and head. It is also moving really slow probably because the entire thing is seemingly made out of rocks and boulders; it is a construct. On its head, a small and shiny rock is serving as its eyes. At first glance, I already have an idea of what kind of monster it is.
(A golem.)
Unbeknownst to him, what he is seeing is no ordinary golem, but rather, a much bigger construct called a colossus golem. A once-in-a-blue-moon disaster that can flatten city blocks by just passing by them.
The massive golem slowly walks along the hallway, shaking the floor. As it passes by, one of its feet, which is at least two meters wide, steps on the dead orc's body and flattens it like a swatted mosquito.
Splat!
Blood and flesh splatter around, and the blood smears on its already red foot. It looks like it has walked over a few monsters before coming here. The golem then passes the room where the mimic is hiding, and I internally let out a sigh of relief when it is far enough.
(Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be interested in meat.)
After that, I stare at the orc's prism that is in my tongue before putting it inside my mouth and shatters it into pieces, which my body passively consumes. Almost immediately, I feel that little power gain again, and my senses sharpen as well.
With improved smelling, the savory smell behind me gets stronger. When I turn around, I find himself in front of a room full of dead orc bodies.
(Looks like I got a jackpot today. More gems, more power-ups. I wonder if that golem has one as well.)
The mimic solos an orc's spawn point, which is already discontinued, and devours everything he could fit into his mouth.
