He felt the Saiyans wouldn't be defeated so quickly.

Goku sat calmly and reminded, "Gohan, Chiaotzu, watch the battle carefully. It'll help you improve your strength in the future."

Tien shouted, "Krillin! It's dangerous! Get out of the way!"

Vegeta's sensor detected Piccolo's rapidly increasing power. "Combat power 8,000… 8,500… 9,000… Watch out, Nappa! It's rising to 10,000 points!"
"Special Beam Cannon!"
Piccolo fired the fully charged energy wave at Nappa.
The Saiyan, still airborne from the combined attacks of Tien, Krillin, and Yamcha, had no time to dodge and could only endure the attack.
