chapter 7 'THE day'
I went straight to the cafeteria and saw the boys already seated on our normal table. I grabbed lunch before heading to the table. Zach, one of my basketball team, was talking about the party he went to. As usual, Brittany was trying to get my attention by sitting right next to me and talking about nonsense. She is like a gecko that enjoys sticking to people.
"Guys, I'm going to go ahead. I need to check on some stuff before 3rd period. See yah on the last period." I said, excusing myself from the group.
I went to the library because it's much quieter there. I was sitting on my normal hiding out, the one by the window, listening to my playlist when I saw Maddie pull out a chair on one table. She took a book from her bag and placed it on the table. She plugged her earphones on her phone and opened her book. She looked so focused about what she is reading. I browsed Griffinfield Universitys' web page. It is the best University in the entire country. It is also expensive, but it's not a problem for me. My dad even wants me to study at Harvard, but that means I will have to go to the US. Studying there would give me a great opportunity to be in the NBA, but my dad wants me to take Medicine as my career rather than basketball. I agree with him, but I want to experience playing in the League some day.
I checked the time, and lunch break was almost over. I grabbed my bag and went to my next class. I don't enjoy being late in class, especially for Chemistry. It has been my dream to become a Doctor. It sort of runs in the family. My Dad is a surgeon and my Mom is a plastic surgeon.
I got in the Chemistry Lab before the bell for the 3rd Period rang. I sat at the end table. I don't really like sitting at the front of the class during Chemistry especially when we do experiments. A few minutes later the bell rang and Mrs. Parker came in. She started discussing right away, and I was taking notes when she suddenly stopped explaining. I looked at her and I noticed she was looking at the door. I saw Maddie by the door. Seems like Maddie had some problems with the schedule as well.
"I see. Go ahead and take a seat next to Mr. Walker. He will be your lab partner for the entire year." she said to Maddie, pointing at the empty stool next to me.
She walked over right next to me. She took out her notebook and a pen and started scribbling down.
"Are you stalking me?" I joked.
It looks like she was lost. Her face looked so confused.
I laughed at her and said, "Hey, I was just kidding."
She shook her head and went back to taking down notes.
The class went by fast. Most of the people in the room already left the moment Mrs. Parker dismissed the class. I stayed behind because I don't like being caught in the middle of a lot of students. I was about to leave when Maddie passed by me and she tripped on something. Luckily, I caught her before she hit the floor.
"You ok?" I asked her.
"Uhm. Yup. Thanks for that." She replied.
"I assume you have P.E. for the next class. Am I right?" I asked.
She simply nodded. She was about to leave when I caught up on her.
"Wait. Let's go to the gym together. You might trip over something again and might break an arm or leg. I won't be having a Biology and Physics Partner." I said with a joke.
She just shook her head and continued walking. I was just right behind her in the sea of all the students. I was going to ask her about the Biology research when I saw Jake.
"Hey man. Wassup? Classes had been so boring. You are barely in any of my classes. "Zach said, putting his arm over my shoulders.
"I know, man. At least, we still have P.E. together. "I replied.
When I looked around Maddie was already gone so I went to the changing room to get ready for P.E. After changing, the boys and I played a little basketball while waiting for Mr. Thompson. We made a few shots before Mr. Thompson arrived and called the attention of every student.
"Ppprrrrtttt!"
"Gather around students. For today, we will have volleyball. And before you all complain and get excited, I have already divided you into teams. By the end of the term, you will compete against each other." Mr. Thompson explained. "I want you to come up here when I call your name."
One by one, names were being called. Half of the class were already in their respective teams. There were around 20 students left sitting. Cole, Ryan and I have not been called yet. We are all hoping that we will be in the same group.
"Wilson, Davis, Peterson, Scott, Walker and Carter. You are one team."
Brittany complained right away about her group and wants to change groups.
"Ms. Stevens, the groupings are already final." Mr. Thompson said. "Now sit with your groups and come up with a team leader."
I saw that Chloe, Brooke and Maddie were already sitting at the upper bench, so I told the boys that we would go over
to the girls instead.
"Hey girls!." Ryan said.
"Ethan, be the team leader since you are the team captain of the basketball team." Chloe said.
I was not surprised when Chloe suggested that since I am the school's team captain. I don't mind, but I don't want to look like I'm bragging. When I looked around my group mate, they seemed to agree, so it was final.
"Ok class. I want you all to sit together with your teams. Starting today, all our activities will be done by a group. With that being said, everybody on your feet and we will start with stretching." Mr. Thompson said.
The stretching lasted 20 minutes. Most of the girls were complaining the whole time. After the stretching, the first two groups were called for the first game. When it was our group's turn, we were playing against Zach's team. It was an easy game since all the girls in their team were running away from the ball.
After P.E., I stayed behind with the rest of the basketball team. We have training afterwards. The training lasted 1 hour. I grabbed my stuff from the locker room and went home. Mom was already home when I arrived. Mom always comes home early, unlike Dad, he comes home late.
"Mom, I'm home." I shouted through the hallway while closing the front door.
"I'm in the kitchen." Mom replied.
I went to the kitchen to see what she was cooking. Mom loves cooking and baking.
"Hmmm.... Smells good, Mom. Is that lasagna?" I asked, smelling the aroma from the oven.
"Yup. How was school?" she asked.
"It was ok. I'm just going to go take a shower. We had training." I told her before leaving the kitchen and headed to my bedroom.
"Ok. Don't take too long. Your dad is on his way home. We will have dinner when your dad gets home." Mom said.
"Yes, Mom." I replied.
I quickly took a shower and laid down on my bed browsing on my phone. I was texting with the guys on my phone when I heard Dad's car. I placed my phone in charge before heading downstairs.
We had dinner and Dad just asked how school went. After dinner, I went to bed. I don't like staying up late during weekdays because we have training after school and I also jog in the morning.
