I didn't hesistate after the system explained the food voucher. I used the first. And then…..nothing happend? [Host, each food voucher can only be used at teh start of a new day. This time restriction will change depending on the habits of the host.] So you're telling me, even though I completed the quest, I will only be able to use the voucher tomorrow? I've never heard of such bullshit. [Host, the system is aware of your disappointment, however it cannot change the rules of Items.] So I had to go to sleep hungry, even though I technically had food? Can you atleast give me the quest for tomorrow.
[Very well, Host. Creating Daily Quest 03]
Objective 1: Level Up Skill "Throw" to Level 2
Objective 2: Complete 3 deliveries
Objective 3: Find a better place for Shelter
[Rewards: +5Exp; Food Voucher x3; Item: Padded Work Shoes]
A pair of black high knee boots in a military style with silver buckles. They negate minor environmental damage and slow down fatigue gain. The offer support for the ankles to endure long runs. They are steelcapped, perfect for quick and if necessary, forceful deliveries.
[Introduction: Designed for couriers who can't afford rest. Reinforced soles protect against broken glass, rubble, and long hours.]
System, can I start the mission right now or do I have to wait until tomorrow for my progress to count?
[Host, due to the nature of Objective 1 being related to a skill-level and nothing else, you can start on it. Though only objective 1 as your Job only starts tomorrow and your "mother" would notice and possibly kill you if you left now for objective 3.]
So the system had different rules depending on the different objects and objectives. Skill Objectives, as long as they are related to Leveling them, are generally not restricted to a timelimit, unlike other Objectives. Good to know. After the System was so helpful to inform me and naturally me being unable to start objectives I simply didn't have access to, yet. Being bored out of my mind, wanting to tire myself out and having a possible objective, was a bad combination for my sleep schedule. After I found some rocks on the roof I began throwing them randomly around. At first, the rocks only flew a small, but stable path across the roof before falling down or diverging from their intended course. But each time I threw them, I noticed a slight change, both in my posture and how I held the rocks. Then came the first time a rock flew farther than expected.
*Thunk
It had hit a window on the neighbouring building. To my luck, the rock was small, so it didn't even leave a scratch behind, but now I knew I had to start aim-practice. Hopefully I would get the aiming part down before the power of my throws improved. Eventually, after the moon had already reached its peak, shedding its hollowed grace onto the roof, I finally grew tired enough to ignore my hunger and sleep. By the time sleep claimed me, however, the skill was almost at Level 2. The stones were already flying faster and carried more power behind them, judging by the rather prompt change of impact sound.
The new day greeted me with the sound of closing doors and a couple of cats fighting down the street. The moon was still up, but just barely. The sun hadn't managed to peek over the horizon yet and the night was still clear and cold. I didn't know what time it was, as I forgot my alarm clock in my room while escaping that crazy bitch.
[Host, a new day has started. Objective 03 is now available. It is now 04.23 a.m. Your school day starts at 08.30 a.m. Please be aware, your mother has left for her job.]
That was good. The system apparently had an integrated clock. If only it had an alarm-clock, too. Then I could abandon the Allmight clock. Anything better than that. It would be one object less to worry about getting stolen. While thinking about it, I climbed back into my room. There were still a few things I would need, such as my notebooks, some food from the pantry. (Not because I needed it but because I am a petty brat and I would love to hear her outburst.) So I took her favourit things from the fridge, too. She was left with no alcohol, drugs or anything sweet. What can I say? If she wants to be abusive, then I will be an inconvenience. After packing my bags, stealing everything not nailed down, including her bedding and sheets, I left the apartment with heavy steps.
It took me about 2 hours to find an old district with lots of empty houses. Even a large shopping mall with a small skyscraper connected to it. It was one of the few abandoned districts in close to my school. Why were they abandoned? Most people don't know. Not really. They were all meant to be economic districts, a mix between modernity and nature. They were meant to be essentially a big air filter to lower the cities impact on the weather and to eventually clear the smog. Rent was supposed to be at acceptable heights but once the entire structure was built and the facilities running? No one wanted to move there. And it wasn`t because any issues had become known. Not even because the facilities were lacking. No. For some reason, people never stayed for long. Not even the criminal hideouts stayed.
It didn't take long until this district, previously known as the Harunagi District, became known as The Breathing Grove.
For about an hour I considered just moving into the mall or even the skyscraper, but then I thought about several situations. If I moved into the skyscraper and the elevator got stuck? I would never get out there. I don't know how to repair any damage to it, much less to keep it in working conditions. The mall was to put in the open. Sure I would likely hear the moment someone or something stepped inside, but that would mean they would hear me, too. Besides a large space the mall offered nothing else. Even the shelves of the different shops were empty, as no one ever attempted to open one here in Harunagi.
Instead I found myself a Warehouse deeper inside the district. The warehouse had several floors and even a big office space on the last three floors. I knew enough about this district to be sure that almost every building was able to retain warmth even in the cold winter.
I was unwilling to stay on the ground floor and after looking through the entire building, I made camp in the most upper floor. Here there was furniture, tech and even kitchen and restroom.
[Objective 3: Complete]
