Sandy's POV
Before I could press Charles for more details about his mysterious plans, Joseph appeared behind us, calling out his name with an urgency that made my stomach clench.
Charles walked me back to the beach house, his hand warm against the small of my back, then disappeared into the night with Joseph. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, I watched their silhouettes fade into the dense treeline until only darkness remained.
So many questions burned on my tongue, but what he had already revealed would take all night to process. If I even could process it at all.
I released a shaky breath and retreated to my bedroom, collapsing onto the mattress with my mind racing like a caged animal.
Now that the initial shock had worn off, the pieces were starting to form a clearer picture. Someone had orchestrated a calculated campaign to destroy what Charles and I had built together.
