Sandy's POV
Dorothy had been hovering around me for hours, constantly trying to coax me into eating something. Food was the last thing on my mind.
At least Charles had taken Lyla and disappeared to the far side of the island. I watched them walk toward an area I had never explored before.
Something important was hidden over there. My instincts told me that was where Charles kept those missing boys. The location made perfect sense.
Following them was impossible with Dorothy watching my every move like a hawk.
Charles seemed to read my thoughts effortlessly. What he could never predict was my decision to involve Lyla in my plans. When he discovered what I had done, his rage would be volcanic.
I hugged myself tightly and exhaled slowly. This was the only way forward, I reminded myself.
Yet doubt gnawed at my stomach. Hurting Charles was the last thing I wanted. Destroying whatever fragile bond we were rebuilding felt like self-sabotage.
