Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: I Missed You So Much While You Were Gone

In the past couple of years, aside from business matters, basically no one contacted Eve Sherman's personal WeChat.

After taking a shower, without even drying her hair, she took out her phone to check.

No notes, no Moments, the profile picture was just a starry sky, nothing else.

The last message was from two years ago when she accepted his friend request.

She really had no memory of it.

Eve Sherman thought for a moment, it wasn't too late, so she politely sent a message: Excuse me, who is this?

After waiting a while with no reply, she didn't pay much attention and got busy dealing with company emails.

The next morning, Eve Sherman arrived at the company early, prepared the materials needed for the morning meeting, as well as Stellan Sutton's coffee and health supplements.

At nine o'clock, Stellan Sutton arrived on time.

However, his face was gloomy, completely different from his gentle demeanor yesterday.

Lucas followed behind him, not daring to take a deep breath.

Eve Sherman felt a bit uneasy and seized a chance to catch Lucas, "What's going on? Why does the president look like this? Did last night's date not go well?"

Lucas nodded, "I don't know what happened last night, but the president suddenly became unhappy, didn't even eat, and just went home."

"..."

Eve Sherman felt a bit nervous.

Did he not like the restaurant? Was the gift unsatisfactory?

After all, she had arranged everything!

Though worried, as an assistant, it was absolutely not her place to probe into the boss's personal affairs.

When delivering the coffee, all she could do was carefully watch Stellan Sutton's expression.

Fortunately, although Stellan was in a bad mood, he didn't let it affect his work. After glancing at the schedule, he began preparing for the meeting.

Eve Sherman put in her utmost effort, able to understand what he needed with just a look, skillfully handing over documents, serving tea, and pouring water.

After the morning meeting, they had to go inspect Sterling in the afternoon.

Lucas drove, and Eve sat in the passenger seat, organizing the related documents along the way.

The more she read, the more her brow furrowed.

Sterling, a cosmetics manufacturing company with many large factories, had suddenly gone bankrupt and was acquired without any warning signs.

She had been transferred to Hess and didn't know that Stellan Sutton planned to dismiss all the technical employees and executives at Sterling Factory, keeping the land but not the people.

This would be a very troublesome issue.

Over there were more than a thousand employees, and at the very least, a large sum would have to be paid in compensation; at worst, it could lead to endless labor arbitration lawsuits.

Feeling puzzled, she couldn't help but glance at the man in the back seat.

Stellan was sharp; as soon as she looked at him, his gaze swept over and met hers.

"What is it?"

Eve Sherman was just an assistant; she had no say in the leaders' decisions.

She shook her head, "Nothing."

They first went to Sterling's headquarters. While Stellan Sutton and Lucas talked with the president outside, they had Eve Sherman communicate with the relevant personnel for today's meeting.

As soon as Eve Sherman stepped inside, a chilling voice sounded behind her.

"Sherman! You're here."

Her heart sank, and she instinctively stepped back two paces.

It was General Manager Phillip Langdon.

Previously promoted by Phillip Langdon, she had served as his assistant for a year.

Phillip Langdon, the brother of Sterling's president, was sent to run the company, though he had no business acumen and spent his days idling, preoccupied with selecting pretty employees, and often liked to grope the female staff around him.

Eve Sherman hadn't been exempt either.

Seeing him now gave her goosebumps all over.

As she retreated, Phillip Langdon didn't care; he just came up and grabbed her wrist, leeringly rubbing it.

"Crawford, while you've been gone, I haven't been able to eat or sleep, I've missed you so much..."

Eve Sherman recoiled like she'd been shocked, sternly saying, "Mr. Langdon, please show some respect!"

Phillip Langdon continued to draw near, his gaze lingering shamelessly under her skirt, "Why are you pretending to be so innocent? If you weren't pretty and had a nice figure, you wouldn't have become my assistant. Do you really think it's because you're that competent? Those people at Hess only see you as a plaything too."

Biting her lip, Eve glared at him, "I earned this through my hard work!"

Her current position was the result of her own efforts, burning the midnight oil. Why should she be tarnished by such insults?

Seeing her stern face, Phillip Langdon chuckled again, dragging her towards the staircase, "Alright, don't be mad. Come on, let's catch up. I've really missed you!"

Eve Sherman struggled, and when she turned her head, she saw Stellan Sutton and Lucas walking in.

The dazzling sunlight outside outlined Stellan Sutton's tall figure, his commanding presence drawing the gaze of the surrounding employees.

"President Sutton!"

Eve Sherman instinctively called out.
