Gideon calmly took another sip, then another, his movements unhurried. A faint, smug curve appeared on his lips.
"This coffee tastes different," he remarked casually.
Summer could only stare at him, utterly speechless. He drank it as though it were perfectly normal.
How was he able to drink that horrible coffee?
This wasn't funny anymore. Her amusement drained away, replaced by confusion, regret, and fear.
What if he actually got sick?
"Stop it," she burst out suddenly. "Don't drink it."
She rushed forward before he could react and snatched the cup from his hand.
Their eyes met.
Gideon saw the nervous flicker in her eyes, the tight worry pulling at her brows.
His heart thumped with hope and anticipation.
'You still care,' he realized. 'You can't bear to see me suffer, can you?'
"How could you drink that?" she snapped, scowling at him. "Can't you feel it? It's horrible."
