Chapter 251 - The Disappearance of Tenrou Island

Chapter 251: The Disappearance of Tenrou Island

BOOM—————!!

The ocean surface exploded as if a volcano had erupted beneath it. Two colossal figures breached the water line, sending millions of tons of seawater cascading into the sky.

One was the Black Dragon, Acnologia, his wings shedding water like diamonds as he ascended with a terrifying roar.

The other was Ren, encased in the golden, translucent avatar of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox. His massive energy claws gripped Acnologia's tail for a brief second before releasing him to gain distance.

Ren landed on the turbulent sea surface, the chakra beneath the avatar's feet hissing as it evaporated the water. He looked up, his golden eyes narrowing.

In the sky, Acnologia stabilized himself. His obsidian chest swelled high, glowing with an ominous blue light. Magic power—pure, unadulterated Ethernano from the atmosphere—condensed rapidly toward his maw, creating a vortex of energy that distorted the air itself.

"It's a Roar————!!!"

Gajeel Redfox, standing on the shattered remains of the island's coastline, shouted in horror. His voice was hoarse, drowned out by the wind, but the terror in his eyes screamed loud enough.

A Dragon's Roar was the ultimate technique of the species. While the roars of Dragon Slayers like Natsu and Gajeel were powerful enough to break walls or injure mages, a true Dragon's Roar was a catastrophe. It could slaughter cities, erase mountains, and destroy nations in a single breath.

Ren watched Acnologia charging the attack. The pressure was immense, like the sky was collapsing.

'He's going for the kill,' Ren realized. 'I have three choices.'

Option One: Use the Flying Thunder God Technique to teleport away instantly. With his marked kunai scattered around, dodging this attack was effortless for him. He could survive. But that would mean leaving the island and his guildmates to die.

Option Two: Use the Flying Thunder God to transfer the Roar. He had done it before with the Etherion blast and the Jupiter Cannon. He could open a spatial rift and send the attack into the void.

Option Three: Clash head-on.

Undoubtedly, the first option was the easiest. The second was safer. But Ren felt the thrum of the Nine-Tails' chakra pulsing through his veins. The atmosphere had been built up to this breaking point. He was the Ace of Fairy Tail. He was the transmigrator with the system.

How could he possibly run away?

"Let's see whose firepower is stronger, Lizard," Ren growled.

The golden avatar of Kurama roared in sync with him. Ren sank deeper into the spectral head of the fox, raising his hands. The positive black chakra and the negative white chakra began to gather at a terrifying speed.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh—————!

The energies swirled, compressing into a dense, super-heavy sphere. He adhered strictly to the 2:8 ratio of Yin and Yang chakra required for the ultimate technique.

A massive, purple-black sphere formed in front of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's mouth. It crackled with arcs of unstable energy.

[Tailed Beast Bomb]

"ROAR!!!"

Acnologia unleashed his breath. A beam of blue-white destruction, concentrated enough to pierce the planet's crust, shot down from the heavens.

"TAKE THIS!!"

Ren fired.

[Tailed Beast Bomb]

The dense sphere of chakra launched upward, leaving a trail of distorted space behind it.

The Black Dragon's Roar transformed into a terrifying shockwave of magic.

The Tailed Beast Bomb met it in the form of a sphere of annihilation.

CRASH!

The ultimate powers of two great worlds collided head-on in the space between the sky and the sea.

Time seemed to freeze for a second. There was no sound, only a blinding light where the blue and purple energies met.

Then, the laws of physics shattered.

The two forces refused to yield. Acnologia's magic wanted to erode and devour the chakra. The Tailed Beast Bomb wanted to crush and obliterate the magic. The two forces rubbed against each other continuously, creating a sphere of pure chaotic destruction that expanded rapidly.

BOOM——————!!

It was as if a second sun had exploded violently in the sky.

The terrifying energy shockwave broke the sound barrier instantly, spreading outward in a ring of white fire. The clouds were vaporized. The sea was depressed into a massive bowl shape before rebounding.

Monstrous waves, hundreds of meters high, surged across the sea, heading straight for the trembling island.

"This is bad————!!"

Erza Scarlet, clutching her sword, stared wide-eyed at the approaching wall of water and energy. "The shockwave alone is going to wipe us out!"

The members of Fairy Tail were all greatly alarmed. Even if the main attack didn't hit them, the aftermath was enough to scrub Tenrou Island off the map.

Just at this moment.

Whoosh————!

A golden flash appeared between the island and the explosion.

A giant, golden figure blocked the way in front of the Fairy Tail members, standing tall against the apocalypse.

"Ren!" Lucy screamed, tears in her eyes.

It was Ren. He had used the [Flying Thunder God Technique] to teleport his massive avatar instantly. He moved from the epicenter to the defense line, placing himself as the shield for his family.

Ren gritted his teeth, feeling the searing heat of the shockwave against the chakra cloak.

"I won't let you touch them!"

Ren raised the avatar's massive claws high. He channeled the principles of breathing techniques he had learned—Sun Breathing.

[Nine-Tails Sword: Sun Halo Dragon Head Dance]

He fiercely slashed downwards with the golden claws.

Swish————!!

A wave of golden chakra, sharp as the sharpest blade, cut through the air.

The incoming shockwave and the tsunami were both split in half by Ren's single claw. The surging wall of water was separated, diverting to the left and right of the island.

The shockwave roared past both sides of Tenrou Island, tearing up the ocean but leaving the island itself almost completely unharmed in the eye of the storm.

High above in the clouds, peeking through the chaos, Zeref Dragneel watched with widened eyes.

"How could... how could someone..."

Zeref was incredibly shocked. He had lived for four hundred years. He had seen empires rise and fall. He knew the despair Acnologia represented better than anyone. He had never imagined that a human could contend with the Dragon King, let alone block his attack.

Because it was fundamentally impossible. Humans were insects to Dragons.

But Ren's appearance... this golden warrior who defied logic... made him feel a dangerous emotion.

Hope.

'It might actually be possible,' Zeref thought, his heart racing. 'For humans to defeat Acnologia.'

Acnologia's greatest strength lay in his ability to devour any magic power. He was the Dragon of Magic, immune to almost all spells. His physical body was tough enough to tank dragon slayer magic without a scratch.

Although Acnologia's body was formidable, he was ultimately not like Zeref, who possessed the Curse of Ankhseram—an true Immortal Body. As long as Acnologia's physical body could be destroyed, he would die.

But who in this world could destroy Acnologia's body? Magic was useless. Physical attacks from humans were too weak.

Until now.

Ren was using an energy that wasn't quite magic. It was dense, physical, and devastating.

Bang———!

Powerful magic power radiated in the sky again. The smoke cleared, and Acnologia's figure reappeared.

He had been blasted back by the explosion, his scales smoking, but he was laughing. He opened his maw and inhaled deeply, devouring the residual energy of the Tailed Beast Bomb that lingered in the air.

"It's not magic..." Acnologia's voice boomed like thunder, echoing in the sky. "But this strange energy is incredibly powerful! It's no weaker than Dragon Force! Delicious!"

Ren's expression darkened inside the avatar.

'He ate the residual chakra?' Ren thought, sweat dripping down his face. 'Sure enough, the most troublesome situation has arisen.'

Acnologia's setting in the lore was simply too overpowered. He was a conceptual eater of magic. Even the author of the original manga had struggled to find a way to kill him, leading to a hasty "Plot Kill" ending.

The Tailed Beast Bomb was Ninjutsu, made of Chakra. It wasn't Ethernano-based magic, but it was still energy. If Acnologia could adapt to eat energy in general, Ren's arsenal was severely limited.

"Fine," Ren muttered. "If energy doesn't work, I'll beat you to death with physical fists."

He prepared to lunge again.

Clang————!

Suddenly, the golden light flickered.

Ren's Full Biju Incarnation dissipated like shattered glass. The massive fox vanished, leaving Ren hovering in the air in his normal human form, panting heavily.

"Crap!"

Ren's face turned pale.

He hadn't expected the consumption of the Full Biju Incarnation combined with the Tailed Beast Bomb to be so immense in this world. The laws of the world seemed to resist the foreign power system, draining him faster.

His magic power had reached Seven Stars according to the System, yet he couldn't maintain the full avatar for even five minutes against a foe like Acnologia.

"Ren!!"

Erza and Mira noticed the golden light vanish. They saw Ren stumble in the air and fall onto the beach, exhausted. They immediately gathered around him, shielding him with their bodies.

"Out of magic power? Hahaha!"

Acnologia laughed cruelly. He flapped his wings, ascending higher into the sky to gain momentum.

"Then it seems the game is over! You, along with those vermin and the Children of Dragons, shall completely vanish!!"

Acnologia took a deep breath. His chest swelled larger than before. The sky darkened as he gathered every scrap of magic in the vicinity.

He wasn't just aiming to kill them. He was aiming to erase the island from existence.

"He's... he's trying to make the entire island disappear, isn't he!!" Lucy cried out, clutching her keys.

"Everyone who can use Defensive Magic, fight with all your might!" Erza shouted, donning her Adamantine Armor.

"We can't end it here!" Natsu roared, igniting his flames.

"Mmm! We absolutely cannot give up!" Wendy cried, casting support enchantments. "Everyone, link hands! Unite all our strength!"

"Let's all return to Fairy Tail together!"

Gray, Lucy, Happy, Carla, Lisanna, Cana, Gildarts, Laxus... everyone joined hands. They formed a circle, pouring their magic, their hopes, and their bonds into a single defensive will.

Ren, kneeling on the sand, gritted his teeth. He pulled out a marked Kunai from his pouch. His hands were shaking from exhaustion.

'I can't let them die here. Not like this.'

He prepared to weave the hand seals for the Flying Thunder God. Although his current magic power was insufficient to sustain the Biju Incarnation, teleporting a massive object was still theoretically possible if he burned his life force.

'I'll transfer the Roar. Even if it kills me.'

He started the seal sequence. Rat. Ox. Dog.

Just then, a gentle, ethereal girl's voice sounded directly in Ren's mind.

"Stop!"

"This is..."

Ren froze. He had been completely absorbed in the fight against Acnologia, his mind focused solely on survival calculations. Suddenly hearing a voice inside his head made him momentarily unable to react.

Immediately after, he heard the voice continue, soft yet undeniably authoritative.

"Leave the rest to me, child of the stars. Have faith."

Ren's eyes widened. He realized who it was.

It was Mavis Vermillion. The First Master of Fairy Tail.

Ren looked at the kunai in his hand, then at the sky. He let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

'The Fairy Sphere...'

He lowered his hand. He couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. His own strength was still too weak to contend with Acnologia alone. If Mavis was intervening, the canon event would proceed. They would survive.

Whoosh—————!!

Acnologia unleashed his Breath.

A beam of apocalyptic light descended from the heavens. It wasn't just a roar; it was a pillar of white judgment.

BOOM——————!!!

A terrifying explosion erupted. The light of the blast submerged the entire island, blinding Zeref who watched from afar.

The sound was absolute silence, followed by a roar that shook the planet.

Monstrous waves surged on the sea surface, swallowing the horizon.

After a long while, the light faded. The smoke cleared. The waves settled.

Everything gradually returned to calm. The sea was empty. The birds returned to the sky.

But the island was gone.

Tenrou Island had completely vanished. A massive, circular crater appeared in the ocean where the land once stood, which was then slowly filled by the endless seawater rushing in to fill the void.

There was nothing left. No debris. No bodies. No magic.

High above, Zeref looked at the empty sea with sad, dead eyes.

"In the end... no miracle happened..."

[December 16, X784. Tenrou Island, vanished!]
