Chapter 250: Nine-Tailed Demon Fox VS Black Dragon
The golden flames around Ren surged violently, erupting like a volcano of pure mana. In a blink of an eye, the flames coalesced and expanded, forming a gigantic, majestic Golden Nine-Tailed Demon Fox.
Its translucent body glowed with the brilliance of a second sun, adorned with intricate black seal markings that pulsed with power.
Ren's true body stood calmly within the diamond-shaped crystal on the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's forehead, his arms crossed, his gaze locked on the apocalypse before him.
"What is this?!"
"A Nine-Tailed Demon Fox?!"
Natsu, Gray, and Erza were stunned into silence by Ren's transformation. They had seen many magics, but nothing like this towering avatar of chakra.
Acnologia, the Dragon King, also saw Ren's transformation. He paused in mid-air, his slit pupils narrowing slightly. For the first time in centuries, he was... taken aback.
Rumble—!
Ren didn't wait for an invitation. In his Incarnation as the Nine-Tails, he roared—a sound not of voice, but of raw energy—and charged towards the Black Dragon Acnologia.
ROAR—————!!
Acnologia felt as if his authority as the apex predator had been challenged by a mere human. It was an insult.
With a powerful flap of his dark, feathery wings, his massive body swiftly rushed towards Ren, turning into a blur of black destruction.
The two titans clashed.
The Black Dragon and the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's heads collided in mid-air with the force of two planets crashing.
BOOM—————!!
A terrifying impact spread outwards from the two colossal monsters. The shockwave instantly vaporized the surrounding forest, turning ancient trees into dust. The ground beneath them cracked open, exposing the bedrock.
Rumble rumble————!!
The entire Tenrou Island trembled violently, threatening to sink into the ocean.
"Waaahhhhhhh!!"
"Whoaahhhhhhh!!"
The Fairy Tail members all lost their footing. They were blown away like leaves in a hurricane, tumbling over the broken terrain. They finally managed to stop, digging their fingers into the dirt, their eyes wide with disbelief as they looked ahead.
"Is that... is that Ren?!"
Makarov Dreyar, the Titan of Fairy Tail, couldn't believe his eyes. His mouth hung open.
Ren was actually fighting Black Dragon Acnologia from the Apocalypse head-on. Not dodging, not running—fighting. He remembered that Ren's magic power was very weak when he first joined the guild a year and a half ago. He was just a kid with potential.
How, in such a short time, had Ren become so powerful that Makarov barely recognized him? This wasn't just S-Class power; this was something else entirely.
"Interesting!"
Acnologia's voice boomed across the island, deep and resonant like tectonic plates grinding together. He looked at Ren with a predator's curiosity.
"He spoke!!"
All the guild members heard Acnologia's voice and shuddered.
"This Black Dragon really can talk!!" Lucy gasped, clutching her keys.
Ren, safe within his avatar, looked at Acnologia and smirked. "Oh? Finally willing to speak? I thought you were a mute lizard."
As Ren spoke, he manipulated the massive golden fox to throw a punch at Acnologia's head. The giant fist tore through the air, creating a vacuum.
Acnologia didn't flinch. He also threw a punch with his clawed hand, meeting Ren's attack and landing a hit on the fox's face.
Boom————!
Both colossal bodies slid sideways from the powerful force of the other's blow. The ocean waves rose fifty meters high from the displacement.
"I never thought! Besides Dragons, there would be someone as strong as you in this world! You have great destructive value!!"
Acnologia laughed, a terrifying sound. He flapped his wings and swiftly rushed towards Ren again, opening his maw wide to bite at the exposed neck of the fox avatar.
Ren leaped with force, his avatar rolling in the air with surprising agility to dodge Acnologia's lethal bite. The jaws snapped shut on empty air with a sound like a thunderclap.
Whoosh————!
Ren's hand moved. From the avatar's hand, a giant Kunai formed of golden energy was thrown at Acnologia.
Acnologia turned his head and saw the Kunai appear before him.
He sneered. He disdained to even block such a small thing. Even if it was magic, human weapons couldn't harm his dragon scales in the slightest. He let it fly past his head.
That was his mistake.
Whoosh————!
The next instant, reality warped.
Ren activated the Flying Thunder God Technique. His massive Nine-Tailed form vanished and instantly reappeared in front of Acnologia, right where the Kunai had passed.
"What?!"
Acnologia was also surprised; the speed was instant. It wasn't movement; it was teleportation.
Clap!
Ren's avatar grabbed Acnologia's head with two massive hands and pressed it downwards.
Boom————!!
Ren then lifted his giant golden foot and kicked Acnologia squarely in the face.
"Ow———!"
Acnologia roared in pain and humiliation. His massive black body was sent flying backwards, crashing through a mountain ridge and tumbling into the dirt.
"Bastard!"
Before Acnologia could get back on his feet, Ren's body descended from the sky like a golden meteor, plummeting towards the fallen dragon.
Boom—————!!
Ren's foot landed heavily on Acnologia's chest, pinning him to the earth.
"Ow————!"
"Stay down!" Ren shouted.
The nine golden tails behind him transformed into nine massive arms, extending and pinning Acnologia's limbs and wings to the ground. With the dragon immobilized, Ren continuously bombarded Acnologia's head with his fists.
Boom boom boom boom boom boom!!!
The terrifying power was unrelenting. Each strike was like a meteor crashing to the ground, shaking the island to its core.
"Bastard!!"
Acnologia roared continuously from the beating. His scales were cracking. Even the Black Dragon Acnologia found it difficult to withstand the Nine-Tailed's immense physical power.
"ROAR!!"
Acnologia opened his massive mouth. Blue magic gathered in his throat. He spewed out a terrifyingly powerful breath attack—a shockwave of pure destruction.
Ren's eyes widened. He immediately turned his avatar's head to dodge. The beam grazed the fox's ear, vaporizing a mountain behind them.
Acnologia seized the opportunity. He snapped his jaws, trying to bite Ren's main body. Ren had no choice but to release the hold and retreat quickly; being bitten by Acnologia—Magic or not—would be fatal.
Acnologia naturally wouldn't let Ren go so easily. He stomped his four limbs on the fractured ground, flapped his wings forcefully, and his body, like a black arrow shot from a god's bow, swiftly crashed into Ren.
Boom—————!
Ren raised his golden arms to block, but the kinetic force was overwhelming. He was sent flying by Acnologia, his feet sliding across the ground, tearing up trenches until he was pushed all the way out to the ocean surface.
Ren stood on the sea, the water hissing around his chakra feet. He glared at Acnologia.
"Troublesome!"
Ren panted slightly. After fighting Acnologia for a while, he realized that this guy was incredibly tough. His entire body of muscle stored terrifying Dragon power, and his magic resistance was absurd.
A punch from the Kurama Avatar would, at most, give this fellow some superficial injuries.
I should use a Bijūdama (Tailed Beast Bomb), Ren thought, glancing at the dragon. But... I'm not sure if he can eat it.
Acnologia was the Dragon of Magic. He devoured magic. A Bijūdama was pure chakra/magic density. If Acnologia ate it and got a power boost, Ren would be screwed. He couldn't risk it.
The root cause of his struggle was still his low magic power (chakra) reserves, which prevented him from unleashing the true, unrestricted strength of the Nine-Tailed form for long periods. He was on a timer.
"Roar——————!!"
Acnologia stood on the beach, his eyes glowing white with madness.
"Interesting! Truly interesting! You are even stronger than those giant Dragons I killed in the past! Kid! I'm going to eat you!!"
Acnologia was somewhat excited at this moment. He hadn't expected there to be such a powerful individual as Ren on this continent. Although he had been beaten somewhat badly earlier, it had ignited his competitive spirit. He finally had prey worth hunting.
Acnologia flapped his wings and charged towards Ren across the water.
"You talk a lot, don't you! But it's not certain who will eat whom yet!"
Ren also sprinted across the sea, golden waves trailing behind him.
Boom—————!
The Black Dragon and the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox collided again in the middle of the ocean. The sky changed color from the release of magic power. Waves surged hundreds of feet into the air.
Then the Black Dragon and the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox wrestled each other, turning the sea into a boiling cauldron of chaos.
"Gulp gulp!!"
On the shore, all the Fairy Tail members watched nervously, involuntarily swallowing their saliva. They felt small. Insignificant.
"This... this is simply a monster war!!"
Lucy Heartfilia couldn't help but exclaim, clutching her chest.
Everyone agreed with her. If this wasn't a monster war, what was? In front of these two terrifying monsters, S-Class Mages, Guild Masters... they were all as fragile as ants.
Magic Council Warship
In the distance, on a Magic Council warship that had been monitoring the situation, chaos reigned on the deck.
The ship rocked violently from the distant shockwaves. Mest Gryder (Doranbolt) was clinging to the railing, his face pale as a sheet.
"What... what exactly is going on? That Black Dragon... and that Nine-Tailed Demon Fox..."
Lahar, the captain of the Magic Council's forced supervision unit, watched the scene through his binoculars in shock. His glasses were fogged up. He couldn't comprehend it.
How had they encountered everything imaginable just by going on one mission to disband a guild?
First, they found the strongest Dark Guild, Grimoire Heart. Then, reports of the legendary Black Wizard Zeref. Then, the Wings of the End recorded in the Apocalypse, Black Dragon Acnologia. And now, a golden Nine-Tailed Demon Fox that could fight the Black Dragon toe-to-toe.
It was too much for one day. It was the end of the world.
"Mest! Report! What is happening on that island?!" Lahar shouted.
"I don't know! I don't know anything!"
Mest shook his head frantically, holding his head as if his scalp were about to explode.
He just wanted to uncover some hidden secrets of Fairy Tail to disband it and gain recognition and promotion from above. He expected smuggling, or maybe dark artifacts. Instead, he witnessed a war of gods.
"I just wanted a promotion!!"
