Chapter 8 - The Cat and the mouse

Mo Jinchen went back to his new home he would soon share with his little wife. The men he had taken with him to retrieve his wife's belongings were already unloading the truck to take everything inside. "Put all of my wife's things in the workshop, her personal items go in our master bedroom." As he directed the men in unloading and placing the items in their new home, a man under a banyan tree drew his attention. He was in the shade of the tree and Jinchen couldn't see his face well but he was tall and strong looking. He couldn't tell of the man was drunk or disheveled because he was too far away. His eyes narrowed and called one of his men. "Investigate. I want to know where Gu Yuan and Fu Jin are right now. Then, take a message to Feng Dai. Have her pick a partner among you to act as a second guard." He spoke and gestured to the truck to through off the man under the banyan tree. This way he wouldn't know what Mo Jinchen was up to. Trying to get at his Yue'er again. Not on his watch. "Tell my mother and father to extend their visit. I want mother to keep Yue company and father will know what I want of him." The soldier saluted then took a chest of threads from the truck. He would take the chest inside then vanish over the back wall. After the truck was emptied of his wife's things, Mo Jinchen went into the kitchen to check the supply closet. He thought about making sure he stocked up on the things his little wife would like to eat. Snowball, the small fox kitten was laying across the table. Jinchen raised a brow at the audacious little fox. "You know we make food on that table." The kitten looked at him, then yawned and laid its head back down. He chuckled at Snowball , then made a shredded chicken dish for it. He checked the supplies closet to make sure there was plenty of food and snacks for his wife, then left to go work in the fields. Tomorrow he would go to the county seat with his little wife to get their marriage certificate. He smiled as he thought of the envelope he had placed in his new office safe in the study of his new home. It was the approval letter from the army stating that he was allowed to add Lin Yue to his army records as his spouse.
