St. Witt's Church.
Like other churches of the Night Goddess, the quiet grand prayer hall had narrow, tall windows on both sides, inlaid with blue and red intricate patterns. When sunlight streamed through them into the church, it was tinged with dark blue and crimson, making the atmosphere in the hall peaceful and dim.
On the wall behind the arched altar, over a dozen fist-sized circular holes pierced through, allowing sunlight to enter, condensing into pure, sacred Light.
Bishop Morgan of the church was preaching to the faithful in a low, gentle voice.
After the sermon was completed and the mass ended, the Bishop opened the door to the confessional next to him, allowing the faithful to queue up and enter. At this moment, a young priest hurried to the Bishop's side and whispered, "Mr. Turanden has returned."
Bishop Morgan nodded, letting the priest take over his remaining duties, while he walked further into the church.
Enki Town had always been peaceful. Of course, this peace was relative, meaning that no Beyonder events had occurred.
Therefore, although St. Witt's Church belonged to the Black Night Church, no Night Watchers were stationed there, and even Bishop Morgan was an ordinary person.
However, after an evil god incident occurred here not long ago, to prevent subsequent accidents, the church dispatched two Night Watchers to be stationed there.
Last night, first, several teenagers, looking flustered, came to the church, speaking vaguely and appearing extremely frightened. After they left, people saw a mysterious and vast Light appearing in the suburbs. These events caught the attention of the church and the two Night Watchers.
They went to investigate in the suburbs last night, and only one of them, Turanden, had returned to the church just now.
In a quiet and peaceful room, Bishop Morgan met this Night Watcher. He was gentle and refined, dressed in a pure black formal tailcoat, and was opening a silver pocket watch with feather patterns on its lid.
Hearing footsteps, he turned his head, put away the pocket watch, and tapped his chest four times: "Praise the Goddess, for allowing us to pass another quiet and peaceful night."
Bishop Morgan understood the implication in his words, and after also tapping his chest four times, he asked, "Did something unusual happen in the suburbs?"
Turanden smiled and nodded: "Yes, Bishop."
"We have confirmed that a battle took place yesterday at the nameless cemetery in the suburbs."
"A battle with Beyonder factors."
Bishop Morgan frowned slightly: "Specifically?"
"Oriel is just a Mystery Pryer. Although he is proficient in some ritual magic, he is not a Seer, so the information we obtained is very limited, even though we have been busy all night for this."
"What can be confirmed is that one of the combatants might have been an undead, and an undead with Beyonder abilities, but Oriel could not determine the specific abilities or the corresponding pathway."
"The other party should be a Beyonder of the 'Sun' Pathway, or possessed a magical item from that pathway. Oriel is very certain about this, it should be correct."
Turanden naturally reached into his pocket, caressing the lid of the silver pocket watch: "So, our preliminary judgment is that someone eliminated an undead with Beyonder abilities for Enki Town last night."
"Honestly, I am personally very grateful for this. From the traces of battle at the scene, if that undead had come to the Town, it would definitely not have been something I, a Midnight Poet, and Oriel, a Mystery Pryer, could have dealt with."
"Even if we had called for help from above, by the time reinforcements arrived, many people would likely have already died."
Only then did Bishop Morgan understand the true meaning of Turanden's praise to the Goddess: "I never thought such a thing would happen. Since the last incident, this Town seems to have been anything but peaceful."
Turanden spread his hands: "I am very grateful to the Beyonder who acted in secret, but I still need to report this matter. Regarding this Beyonder, Bishop Morgan, do you have any thoughts?"
"I remember you saying that the Baron's wife in our Town seems to be a Beyonder."
Bishop Morgan shook his head: "It wouldn't be that Lady. I have been in this Town for over 20 years, and I have known Ms. Amelia for much longer than you can imagine."
"She is a kind, loving Lady, and her faith in the Goddess is very firm. I can confirm that she is not of the 'Sun' Pathway, nor should she possess any related items from that pathway."
"More importantly, she left the Town yesterday morning and even came to the church to pray before leaving."
Turanden nodded and said: "Alright, I don't want to get too involved in noble matters. Since Bishop you believe it wouldn't be this Lady, then there must be another Beyonder who came to the Town."
"However, after what happened yesterday, the other party should have left."
This was a very logical judgment, and Bishop Morgan also nodded in agreement.
"Then, I will go make my report. I hope to finish it before noon." Turanden tapped his chest four times again before leaving.
Bishop Morgan sat down and said in a voice only he could hear: "Last night, the Baron's daughter also came to the church. They were vague, looking as if they had encountered something terrible."
"Is it because Amelia happened to be away from home, and there was no one to turn to, so they thought of the church?"
"Then a battle occurred in the suburbs, and one of the parties was an undead. Could it be that those children provoked an undead? Hmm, Harribel is Amelia's daughter, perhaps she is already a Beyonder and might have performed a dangerous ritual..."
"When Amelia returns, I need to have a good talk with her."
In the afternoon, after lunch, Lex came to the teaching cottage. Pushing open the door, he unexpectedly found a blonde girl reading in the room.
"You didn't go out?"
Lex closed the door and walked towards his mother's study.
Harribel put down the book she was holding and looked at him: "Do I look like someone who often runs outside?"
Lex shrugged, picked out a book from the shelf, and casually said: "You went to the church last night. I think the church people should pay a visit."
"You'd best coordinate your statements with Denise and the others to avoid any discrepancies."
"Hmm, this one is good."
When Lex picked out a few books and walked out of the room, his sister had already run off. She seemed to have left in a hurry, not even putting the book back in its original place.
Lex picked it up and glanced at it, finding it to be his mother's notes. He casually opened a page and read it aloud.
"The Tamara Family supported the establishment of the Tudor Empire and was one of the five great Families second only to the Blood Emperor. Teacher once said that they originally controlled the Judges pathway and had long-term intermarriages with Teacher's Family, thus also mastering the Apprentice pathway. After the Blood Emperor's fall, from the end of the Fourth Epoch until now, although members of the Tamara Family are still active, their numbers are already very scarce. It is said that they currently also control the Black Emperor pathway. As expected of a former great noble Family, even in decline, their foundation is still beyond reach..."
