Chapter 426 - Surveillance

The two men, clearly of Feysac descent, were wearing thick winter coats, whispering to each other, and carrying liquor bottles, looking like ordinary passersby one might see anywhere in Grand Town.

But Lex noticed that the corks of their bottles hadn't been opened, and the liquid inside was full, clearly untouched.

Coupled with their occasional glances at the 'Red Moon' shop across the street, it could basically be concluded that these two were likely members of some organization, or even official personnel from Feysac.

They were here to monitor.

Was it because of Abraham?

Lex tightened his coat and, like an ordinary passerby, walked past the two surveillance personnel and disappeared into the alley.

A moment later, he returned to the alley in the guise of an old gentleman and pushed open the door of 'Red Moon'.

The silver bell on the door immediately chimed crisply, causing a gentleman who was calculating at the counter to look up. This gentleman, whose hair was not particularly well-kept, gave Lex a flat look and said,

"Do you need anything, sir?"

Lex chuckled and said in a rather hoarse and low voice, "Do you sell powdered Night-Seeing Grass from the Highlands here?"

The gentleman behind the counter's eyes flickered slightly, then he nodded, "Yes, how much do you need?"

"I need 100 grams," Lex said, hearing the doorbell ring behind him. He knew without turning around that the two large Feysac men had already entered.

He didn't turn around, but through a nearby glass object, he saw the two big men behind him looking around and touching things, like two customers.

Of course, Lex knew that these two customers wouldn't buy anything. They were only there to eavesdrop on his conversation with the shop owner.

The informant Alger introduced calmly glanced at the two large Feysac men, and without changing his voice or expression, said, "I'm afraid I only have 70 grams left."

"Is that so? Then I'll take it all."

The shop owner took out a glass bottle full of powder from the counter, placed it on the counter, and said, "10 Lucas and 17 Gobis."

Lucas and Gobis are the circulating currency of the Feysac Empire. Lex had exchanged some with his pound for his expenses in the Town.

According to the exchange rate between the two countries, 10 Lucas is roughly 1 soli, so the price of this bottle of powder was quite reasonable. After Lex paid, he hid the bottle of powder in his pocket, pressed his hat, and left the shop.

As soon as he came out, he heard the doorbell ring again, and then a picture formed in his mind.

A large Feysac man was following him.

Lex smiled slightly and walked out of Flint Alley at a pace that was neither fast nor slow.

The Feysac man behind him quickened his steps. When he emerged from the alley, he was slightly stunned; the old man's figure had already disappeared from the street.

'Amber House' Inn.

Lex, who had returned to his original appearance, burned his newly bought coat before placing the glass bottle containing some unknown powder on the table.

All those previous words about wanting to buy Star Highlands materials were actually a secret code agreed upon with the Hanged Man. Lex hadn't expected to actually buy a bottle of materials back.

Lex opened the bottle and poured everything out. After the unknown plant powder was poured out, Lex saw a rolled-up note inside.

Indeed, the Hanged Man's informant wasn't selling him things for no reason, but was using this bottle of powder to convey a message.

He unfolded the note, which read:

Feysac police are watching. The person you are looking for is at 12 Hagen Street.

Feysac police?

Why would the Feysac police be watching the Hanged Man's informant? Was it because of him, or because of Morse Abraham?

Lex burned the note along with the powder on the table, secretly keeping it in mind and not daring to be careless.

The next morning, Lex put on the Thousand-Faced Traveler mask, transforming into the appearance of an old gentleman. He checked the items on him: he wore the magic ring on his hand, a pocket watch containing 'Mrs. Christie' in his pocket, the string puppet was in his inner pocket, and Blood Praise was in the gun holster under his armpit.

Finally, he also took several Charms from the spirit world treasure chest and kept them on him. These were gifts from his mother, Lani, before he went to sea, which he had always been reluctant to use.

Today's matter concerned whether he could bring back Abraham, so Lex dared not be careless and made all the preparations he could.

After preparing, Lex put on a coat, wrapped a scarf, put on his hat, and arrived at Hagen Street.

House number 12 was a three-story building with a garden and stables, clearly different from other houses in the Town.

It seemed that this should be the wealthy area of Grand Town; those who could live here were either rich or noble.

Although he saw no suspicious figures, Lex did not let down his guard. He walked past house number 12 and saw a cafe across the street. He smiled slightly and pushed the door open.

Ordering a cup of coffee, a serving of cream, and a few potato breads, Lex, like a true old man, sat by the window and leisurely enjoyed his breakfast.

At the same time, in the garden of house number 12 across the street, a rat passing by the wall suddenly froze. A moment later, it turned its head, looked at the three-story building ahead, then quickly crossed the garden and scurried into a window.

The rat scurried into the kitchen and saw that it was a mess, with used dishes piled in the sink, having not been washed for who knows how many days.

Among the dishes, there were even cockroaches coming and going, making the rat look at them with a disgusted expression.

The rat jumped off the counter, followed the wall, and left the kitchen. It looked left and right in the outside corridor. The corridor was quiet, and it seemed there was no one there.

So it boldly ran towards the living room. Just as it reached the entrance of the living room, a large foot suddenly extended from inside and stomped towards it.

The rat quickly turned around, narrowly dodged the large foot, and shrank behind the curtain by the wall. In its two dark, round eyes, the figure of a large Feysac man walking towards the kitchen was reflected.

After this 'giant' left, the rat emerged from the curtain. It scurried into the living room, shrank under a sofa, and saw two people moving around in the living room.

"How much longer do we have to stay? If it were me, I would have taken that Loen man away two days ago."

"It's a good thing you didn't do that. Did you forget that this man had contact with people suspected to be from the Rose School of Thought? If we act rashly like that, we might be found and killed before we even leave this Town."

"I hope Your Excellency Shevic comes soon. I really don't want to stay in this house for another minute. It smells of that Loen man everywhere, and it truly sickens me."

The rat did not continue to eavesdrop. It left the living room, found a staircase leading to the second floor, and quickly scurried up, as if delicious cheese was calling to it.
