Chapter 438 - Danitz's Distress

Danitz was also in his room at this time.

The Fourth Mate looked a little melancholic, sighing as he gazed at the sea outside the window.

"The Captain and the others are back."

"I've noticed that ever since Rayleigh arrived, the Captain has been even more indifferent to me, though she always is."

"I've calculated it carefully; in these past few days, she's spoken to me no more than ten times. Her interactions with Barrel and Iron Skin, however, have been five or six times."

"So, in her eyes, have I fallen to the same level as those two scoundrels, Barrel and Iron Skin?"

Danitz rubbed his hair, looking distressed: "Even for this trip to Grand Town to resupply, the Captain didn't take me, nor did she let me participate in investigating and monitoring the people watching us. She said Jodeson was more suitable for the job."

"I always feel like my position on the ship has subtly decreased."

"So, does the Captain really not like men like me?"

Danitz stood up, took out a notebook, and tore a page from it: "I know there's a method for divining emotions, even ordinary people can use it. Although I've always thought this method was ridiculous, right now I need some kind of revelation, or I'll go crazy."

He tore the paper in his hand into several large pieces, then felt the fragments were too few, so he tore them even smaller.

Then he took a deep breath, a solemn and serious expression appearing on his face, and picked up one of the fragments. Danitz whispered: "The Captain likes me."

Next, he picked up the second piece: "The Captain doesn't like me."

"The Captain likes me."

"The Captain doesn't like me."

"The Captain likes me."

"The Captain doesn't like me."

Danitz repeated this endlessly, saying a sentence every time he picked up a piece of paper. Like this, the fragments kept decreasing until only the last one remained.

"The Captain likes me?"

As he said this, Danitz's two yellowish eyebrows shot up, and he laughed heartily: "The Captain really does like me!"

After speaking, he quickly covered his mouth, worried about being heard. He even closed the window before laughing again: "So the Captain really does like me! I knew it! She must be too reserved, afraid to show her true feelings, which is why she deliberately kept her distance from me."

Danitz then became troubled again: "However, the lady who told me this divination method at the time said that the result of this method only has a fifty percent accuracy rate, so it's also possible that the Captain doesn't like me."

"No, no, Danitz, you can't think like that."

"You have to have confidence in yourself!"

"Next, you must perform well, get promoted quickly, and make the Captain feel that you are a trustworthy person!"

Danitz squatted down and pulled a suitcase from under the bed. He opened the case, pushed aside the clothes, and found a photograph inside.

In that photograph, Iceberg Admiral stood at the bow of the ship, her figure heroic and dashing.

Danitz looked at the photo and said firmly: "Captain, trust me, I will become the man who can protect you!"

Then he brought the photo to his eyes, pouted his lips, and slowly leaned towards the photo, just about to touch it, when a knock on the door sounded.

Danitz hastily hid the photo, put the case back in its original place, and then opened the door.

Outside the door were the two pirates, Barrel and Iron Skin.

"Is something wrong?" Danitz asked with a frown.

"What are you doing in your room? Come on, let's go drink."

The two pirates pulled Danitz out without explanation. After the door closed, on the wall of the room, a black dot moved in a cheap landscape oil painting, then gradually grew larger. Christie, dressed in a black, elaborate dress and wearing a veiled hat, emerged from the oil painting, then turned into a phantom and disappeared into the air.

Outside the Captain's Cabin.

Lex knocked on the door and heard Edwina's voice from inside: "Please come in."

He then pushed the door open.

Inside the room, Lex saw Iceberg Admiral sitting near the window not far from the display cabinet. Bright sunlight fell on her face, her body, and her legs, giving Edwina in the sunlight both highlights and shadows, like a richly layered oil painting.

Probably because she was basking in the sun, Edwina was not wearing a coat, but only a white shirt with sleeves that bloomed like flowers and a cream-colored vest.

The cufflinks, collar pins, and other adornments on her vest were unique, not flashy but sufficiently tasteful.

Today, Edwina was dressed neutrally.

The Iceberg Admiral, who was reading a book, wore glasses. This lady, exuding an intellectual beauty, made Lex feel that she should not be in a pirate ship's Captain's Cabin; a library or a university lecture hall would be more suitable for her.

"Good afternoon, Madam."

"Good afternoon. Is there something you need?"

Lex removed his hat and placed it over his chest: "I had a battle in Grand Town and injured my shoulder. Considering that we will be exploring the 'death god's treasure' on monday, I was wondering if you might happen to have some mystical potions that could quickly heal my injury."

Edwina closed her book, her tone calm: "Let me see your injury."

Lex then took off his coat, half-unbuttoned his shirt, and pulled one sleeve down, revealing his shoulder.

Edwina put down her book and walked over. She brought with her a faint fragrance like flowers, extended her hand, and untied the bandage on Lex's shoulder, revealing the wound that had been cut by an Iron-Blooded Knight and later aggravated by fighting the Faceless Man.

After careful observation, Iceberg Admiral turned and walked to a cabinet, opened it, and took out a glass bottle. Inside was a green, gel-like substance. She dripped the gel onto Lex's wound, and Lex's wound immediately improved by more than half.

"It should be completely healed in two more days and shouldn't affect the exploration."

Edwina put the glass bottle back into the cabinet, and then Lex asked: "Captain, is this a potion made by a Apothecary?"

"No."

Edwina shook her head: "This is something I made myself, an item with a certain healing effect on external wounds. It was made using ritual magic, and its effect is not as good as a potion made by a Apothecary, and it has a time limit."

"I always keep a batch of such potions prepared for emergencies."

Iceberg Admiral really knows a lot of things. She can even make potions; although not as good as a Apothecary's, being able to speed up wound healing and even save lives at critical moments is already quite good. Lex opened his mouth, about to say goodbye, but then heard footsteps outside the door, followed by a knock.

A moment later, Jodeson entered from outside, glanced at Lex, and then quickly reported: "Captain, I have found out. The ones who have been monitoring us these past few days are the Black Crow Pirate Group. Their captain is the great pirate Freeman, with a bounty of 2700 pounds."

"He is a Pyromaniac."
