Chapter 465 - The Breath of War

No. 3 White Bear Road.

Inside a two-story villa, the Town Chief and his secretary Linsk Semevich were discussing something.

"According to the military's requirements, we have collected the food, medicine, and fuel they requested. Tomorrow, this last batch of materials will be delivered to the temporary base as scheduled, and I will personally escort it."

Secretary Linsk was a typical Feysac man; he was tall and strong, with a face that seemed weathered by wind and frost, rugged and very masculine.

He looked more like a Soldiers who would solve problems with his fists rather than his brain, but he was indeed the Town Chief's secretary, having served him for over five years.

The Town Chief was a man in his fifties; although no longer young, his abdomen was slightly bloated, but overall he remained capable.

"Very good, Linsk, with you escorting, I can rest assured. Remember to make them sign, so their quartermaster won't come looking for trouble with us later." The Town Chief opened a cabinet, poured a glass of fregret wine, and handed it to his secretary.

Linsk took the glass but didn't drink the strong wine immediately. He frowned and said, "Town Chief, I don't understand why they are assembling on the east side of the island. We don't have any enemies nearby."

The Town Chief also poured himself a glass of fregret wine, and upon hearing Linsk's words, he said seriously, "That's not something we should be concerned about. The military wants us to provide materials, so we do our best to collect and provide them."

"As for other things, don't ask, and don't inquire."

Linsk nodded, drained the wine in his glass in one gulp, and set the glass down. He suddenly saw a rat crouching in the corner.

Before he could react, the rat quickly scurried out of the study along the wall. A moment later, a maid's cry of surprise and the sound of chasing the rat could be heard outside.

The next day.

Linsk had breakfast, put on his coat, and walked out of his house.

He gently embraced his wife and said softly, "I'll be back by tonight at the latest, don't worry."

His wife gently kissed Linsk's cheek: "Come back early, I'll have dinner ready for you."

"If I come back too late, don't wait for me." Linsk glanced at her slightly bulging belly and smiled, "Don't let the little one inside go hungry."

"Okay."

After kissing his wife goodbye, Linsk walked to his carriage, pulled open the door, and slipped into the warm compartment.

Before he could sit down, he found another figure in the compartment.

It was a young man with a clean face beneath his short black hair, dark green eyes, and a faint scar below his left eye.

He was wearing a black three-piece suit, a dark gray tie, and held a top hat, smiling as he looked at Linsk.

Linsk was about to call out, but suddenly, his mind became hazy. He seemed to drop all his guard and defenses, his eyes became blank and unfocused, entering a semi-dazed state.

The carriage door closed. The coachman, unaware of what was happening inside the compartment, lightly whipped the horses, driving them to pull the carriage out of the town.

The person who appeared in the carriage was naturally Lex. Last night, after he used 'string puppet' to turn a rat into a Marionette, he learned from it that Linsk would be escorting materials to the temporary base on the east side of Sonia Island today.

So he decisively took action, waiting early in Linsk's carriage for the Town Chief's secretary to deliver himself.

At this moment, on Lex's black coat, at the shoulder, the fabric 'wiggled', and a mouth appeared. Then Kardashian's slightly deep but very magnetic voice rang out.

"Two things."

"First, this man in front of you is a bodyguard who has served you for many years; his name is Rayleigh. He has saved you and your wife multiple times, and just last week, he protected your wife from harassment by local thugs. You are grateful to him from the bottom of your heart and consider him a close friend."

"You take him wherever you go, you never doubt his loyalty, you trust him as much as you trust your wife. You never hide anything from him, you believe you can entrust your back to him."

"Second, upon arrival at the temporary base, you will, in front of the base guards, have Rayleigh wait nearby. You will allow him to move around freely and are willing to take full responsibility for any trouble he might cause as a result."

"Remember the above words, then forget them, forget that your upcoming actions and words differ from your original behavior. You will not notice anything because of this, nor will you seek help from the military or other Beyonder, nor will you mention it to the Town Chief or your closest people, and after 24 hours, you will forget this person Rayleigh."

After speaking, the mouth closed, and the clothes on Lex's surface rippled, quickly returning to normal.

The carriage gently vibrated at this moment. Linsk's slightly unfocused eyes slowly regained their luster. A few seconds later, he looked at Lex, without the slightest hint of unnaturalness, and smiled: "The journey to the temporary base is not short. If it weren't for you, I really wouldn't have the confidence to accept this mission from the Town Chief."

"If it weren't for you, perhaps I would have asked the Town Chief to give me an extra squad of police, although there aren't many police in the town to begin with."

Lex smiled and responded, "Even without me, you could still complete this mission excellently. These are things the military needs; who would dare to covet them?"

"You're too modest, Rayleigh. Others don't know your capabilities, but I do. I even hope a small accident happens along the way so it won't be so boring."

"Sir, I must say, your thoughts are a bit dangerous."

The two exchanged glances, then Linsk burst into laughter.

When the carriage reached the outskirts of the town, it joined a convoy. This was the team transporting materials to the temporary base, accompanied by four or five Feysac police officers.

Around noon, sitting in the carriage, Lex finally saw the base.

It was built not far from the sea, with rows of sheds constructed from wood to serve as dormitories for the Soldiers. Such sheds were still being built, and many freshly cut trees were piled in the open space of the base. Soldiers were sawing them up, turning them into materials for building the sheds.

On the sea, warships were neatly arranged, densely packed, covering the surface of the sea, and new warships were still arriving from the sea, gathering here.

Sitting in the carriage, Lex could already smell the strong scent of war.

After several strict inspections, they were allowed to enter this temporary base. Lex and Linsk got off the carriage together and saw several military officers approaching.

Linsk said to a thick-bearded officer among them, "Officer, I am from Grand Town, I am the Town Chief's secretary, Linsk, and this is my identification."

After handing his identification to the Bearded Man officer, he said, "I need to meet with your quartermaster. He needs to confirm and sign the list of these materials. Can you take me to him?"

After checking Linsk's identification and finding no problems, Bearded Man nodded: "Follow me."

Linsk then said to Lex, "Rayleigh, wait for me here. You can walk around. I'll be back soon."
