Cornelia's POV
The message arrived exactly two hours after David walked out my door.
I knew I hadn't been sleeping that long. Whoever sent this knew David's schedule down to the minute. He would still be thirty thousand feet in the air right now, completely unreachable.
My fingers traced over the screen, reading the words again. Someone About To Do Something Stupid.
The number was unfamiliar. Calling would be pointless since they clearly preferred staying anonymous.
I set the phone aside, but my mind stayed fixed on those words. David promised he would tell me everything when he was ready to share it. When the time felt right for him.
But was I really supposed to just wait? The man I loved carried secrets that felt heavier each day. I could see them in the way his jaw tightened when certain topics came up, in how his eyes would go distant and unreachable.
My phone buzzed again before I could stop myself from picking it up.
