Chapter 4 - The Change

"Have you seen how Hayate was racing differently?" A old man asked as they watched the racers move off the race course.

"Indeed, it is far more different than the usual." The middle age man that was sitting beside the old man spoke.

In the distance, Hayate was seen walking off the field. His eyes seeming to be haze from the victory, his breath rather calm for what he just ran.

"It's far more...." The younger mans voice fading into his thoughts.

"Destructive." The old man finished before continuing his own thoughts. "The way he was racing was putting himself and others into danger, one wrong move and he could have caused injuries."

"Yeah..."

"What I don't understand is why. He wasn't like this during the..."

"Race against Oguri." The old man said, his face showing signs of worry. "He isn't okay and you can tell with his style of racing."

The young man looked at him, his eyes staring before looking and nodding his head. "One's style of racing is a way to see into how their mind and instincts work. Just from watching this race, you can understand that the kid is facing some problems but the fact that it worked so well is a candy for thought."

"Indeed, he has a talent for destroying the competition with his presence and mind but..."

"But what? If you are going to speak then at least finish your sentence old man Tom." the young man spoke, his voice upset.

"His way of racing could cause his own failure if he over estimates or trains himself."

------

"Hayate North has won the Tokai Derby.." I muttered to myself as I read the title in the local newspaper. I read the contents of it, I am not going to lie that when I am reading this, it does give me some sort of joy.

I still remember the sight of the racers and their faces when I won the race, the slight despair that on their faces was a welcome sight because it meant that the new still that I had adopted was working.

The inner workings of my style of racing had to do with pressuring the racers and causing panic, it was something that I had learned from the race with Oguri Cap, and it is something that I am going to use from now on.

Walking down the sidewalk, I watched as some people walked around. My ears were picking up some talk of everyday life but in the faint distance, I could hear the talk about the Tokai Derby and my win.

Another important part of my style is my hearing and mental mapping. Using my hearing, I would listen into the sound of footsteps to tract down exactly how far they were from me and determine the placements of people, this helped me with knowing when to act and the best way to cause the most amount of problems.

This style was destructive and I knew that, sudden movements can cause problems with my body with the fact that us Uma's are running at extremely fast speeds. It could also cause injuries to the other uma's as they might crash into each other if my way of running causes them to suddenly stop.

There is also the fact that if I don't control myself well enough, I might be forced to get off the race course or banned from racing in general.

------

I was training.

I was moving my body in strange movements, trying to make myself more erratic looking. I was trying to learn how to make myself unpredictable by having strange body movements, of course there was a limit to how erratic I can move my body as if it's too erratic, I could accidentally hit someone during a race.

I was running as fast as I could possibly move my body, moving in a strange pattern to make it hard to predict which direction I was going to move in. This was to make it so that when I am racing I am able to do this during intense, high speed moments especially during clashes of speed.

I have been running at my fastest speed for the past hour or so and I was past my limit on stamina but I didn't care, I was training, I had the freedom of not dying which was something that I didn't have during races. Losing in a race was the same as dying because the loser is never remembered and I wanted to be remembered.

------

The dream of the Uma known as Hayate North was originally to me someone that could be remembered by giving the people hope and happiness by showing the biggest smile he could.

That was, of course, destroyed by the Uma named Oguri Cap. Losing in such a devastating was, in a way, traumatizing for the boy.

He would live listlessly for a month before he eventually had his talk with Kitahara Jo.

After the talk he would change his dreams, he didn't want to be forgotten and the losers in racers would never be remembered unless under extreme circumstances, something which he didn't have, so he want to be remember for wining in the most memorable way he could possibly achieve.

---------

"AND THE WINNER IS HAYATE NORTH ONCE MORE!!!!" The announcer shouted. "THERE IS HIS SIGNATURE BOW!!"

"THIS MARKS HIS 3RD WIN IN A ROW!!"

Slowing down, Hayate looked back at the other horse that had only just reached the finish line.

"Train a little harder and maybe you might be remembered."

---------

This is most definitely edgy, I am pretty sure it counts as edgy but eh

This chapter was more so to introduce his way of thinking and how he is going to race.

Hope you enjoyed and please give ways that I can change things to make this better.
