Chapter 256: Severed Arm and Death
High in the sky, Masahiko flew at extreme speed in his original appearance. The Fat Cat in his arms had already been blown completely disheveled by the wind.
He didn't re-enter the space to test whether he was a lucky "European" or an unlucky "African." He wasn't in the mood right now. Ever since he heard the bad news from Katsuyu, his heart had flown to the Land of Rain battlefield.
"You're over fifty years old. You should have just stayed home and enjoyed your retirement. Why did you have to show off on the battlefield?" Masahiko sighed inwardly.
The person who died in battle was named Kenji Senju. He was Hashirama's eldest son, the father of Tsunade and Nawaki, the former Clan Head of the Senju clan, and could be considered Masahiko's great-grandson.
Driven by anxiety, it took Masahiko less than half an hour to fly from the Hidden Mist Village to the Land of Rain.
Before he could even go check on Kenji's condition, Masahiko's pupils shrank.
He saw Orochimaru running toward the Konoha camp with Sakumo on his back. Sakumo's right arm was severed cleanly at the elbow, and the man himself had already fallen unconscious.
"What happened? Sakumo suffered such a severe injury too?" Masahiko was shocked and accelerated his dive down.
"Senior." Orochimaru was guarded at first, then spoke up.
Masahiko waved a hand, not saying much, and signaled him to put Sakumo down first.
He handed the Fat Cat, which had fainted from the wind, to Orochimaru. After briefly examining Sakumo's injuries, Masahiko frowned. "The wound on Sakumo's arm should have had its bleeding stopped with Lightning Release chakra, so there is no major danger. As for the unconsciousness, he was hit by a poison from the Sand Village. I will detoxify him when we return to camp."
"Let's return to camp first!"
"Senior, the Uchiha Clan Head is still on the battlefield covering the retreat..."
Masahiko nodded. "He's fine. He is not far from the camp."
He could sense Kagami's chakra fluctuation nearby.
Masahiko didn't ask for the cause and course of events for the time being. He carried Sakumo on his back and returned to the camp together with Orochimaru.
A group of ninjas hurriedly came up to greet them but were waved away by Masahiko. Masahiko then carried Sakumo directly into the medical tent.
"Senior." Jiraiya's voice rang out.
Masahiko was startled. The Jiraiya in front of him was covered in bandages, looking like he was quite heavily injured as well.
Looking to the other side of the tent, Tsunade was sitting on her knees on the ground. In front of her was a corpse covered by a white cloth... She had no reaction to his arrival.
Masahiko sighed. He was a bit worried inside, but right now Sakumo's injuries were the priority. As for Kenji, Masahiko could no longer sense his chakra at all...
Directing a few medical ninjas to bring over several types of herbs, Masahiko began to mix an antidote. When it came to medical ninjutsu, he was still slightly inferior to Tsunade right now, but when it came to detoxification, with his Level 10 Pharmacy, he felt no pressure at all.
Ten minutes later, Masahiko directed a medical ninja to feed the antidote to Sakumo and breathed a slight sigh of relief.
"You guys take care of Sakumo here."
After giving the instruction, Masahiko stood up and walked toward Tsunade.
"Great-Great-Grandpa."
When he reached Tsunade's side, she finally had a bit of a reaction.
Masahiko nodded. Without holding back, he directly lifted the white cloth covering Kenji.
The fatal wound was a slightly sunken chest, looking like it had been hit directly by some heavy object.
Seeing Kenji's corpse with his own eyes, Masahiko finally had to admit... there was one more person he needed to revive. Otherwise, when he revived Mito in the future and she found out about this, he feared he wouldn't be able to bear Mito's gentle smile.
"Father!" Nawaki's shout rang out. He had also returned from the battlefield and heard the news.
Masahiko sighed, moved away from Kenji's side, and patted Nawaki's shoulder. "Go comfort your sister."
He then turned to Jiraiya and Orochimaru, wanting to ask them what exactly happened. Suddenly remembering something else, he looked at a medical ninja nearby. "Where is Shikaku Nara?"
"Lord Shikaku is organizing the retreat of the ninjas from the battlefield."
Masahiko nodded and fell slightly silent.
"It seems Konoha is at a disadvantage. Why so suddenly... Jiraiya is heavily injured, Sakumo is heavily injured, and Kenji died in battle."
"Elder Masahiko, Lord Sakumo has woken up." A medical ninja came to report.
Masahiko was startled. He didn't expect Sakumo to wake up so quickly.
He hurriedly took a few steps forward and arrived by Sakumo's side.
"Elder Masahiko," Sakumo spoke with a bitter smile, his voice still a bit weak.
Jiraiya and Orochimaru also came over. Masahiko ignored them. "Who did you fight? Seeing the clean cut on your arm, did Onoki make a move?"
On the entire Land of Rain battlefield, only Onoki and Hanzo were slightly stronger than Sakumo, but Masahiko felt Hanzo wouldn't have the guts.
"Wait, this poison?"
Sakumo smiled bitterly. "I cut it off myself. I was careless. The dying strike of the Sand Village elder, Ebizo, grazed my arm. In order to slow down the spread of the poison, I had to do it myself."
Masahiko was startled. "Ebizo... is dead?"
"Were there other Sand Village ninjas nearby?"
"It was Chiyo."
Masahiko sighed. He had already guessed as much. Her son, daughter-in-law, and now her younger brother all died at Sakumo's hands. He figured Chiyo must have frantically blocked Sakumo, making him unable to even return to detoxify...
Afterward, Masahiko heard the entire story from Jiraiya. From him and Kenji's squad being intercepted by Chiyo and Ebizo, to Sakumo rushing to the battlefield. Then Orochimaru took over, from Jiraiya carrying the lifeless Kenji back to the camp, to him and Kagami going to support Sakumo.
"We couldn't stop Chiyo. The Sand Village's main force arrived," Kagami's voice sounded from behind Masahiko. Masahiko waved his hand, indicating he understood.
His current focus wasn't on Chiyo, but on the giant transforming puppet Jiraiya described.
"Optimus Prime?!" Masahiko looked up, but his view of the sky was blocked by the tent.
"Damn it, how is this my fault again!"
The number of ninjas in the tent gradually increased. The main force had already retreated from the Land of Rain battlefield. Several people also appeared behind Masahiko; they were some of the elite Jonin from the battlefield.
Masahiko glanced back and tossed the box containing the Byakugan to Hizashi.
"Your father's Byakugan."
Calming his emotions, he looked at Sakumo again. Masahiko rolled up his sleeve.
"Sakumo, bite me. It can heal your injuries." Masahiko was in no mood to care about whether it was awkward or not.
Sakumo didn't hesitate and directly "used his mouth." Afterward, the wound on his arm rapidly healed, but unfortunately, it didn't grow back.
Masahiko frowned. "Sakumo, where is your severed arm?"
Sakumo smiled bitterly. "It has already been destroyed by Chiyo."
"I see." Masahiko's ability wasn't quite at the level of regrowing flesh on bare bones.
"It is alright, Elder Masahiko."
"There might not be a lack of options. We'll talk about it later." Masahiko glanced at Orochimaru, then thought about Danzo, who was still in Konoha.
Looking around, everyone was expressing amazement at his medical ability. Orochimaru's eyes were "glowing green," and Jiraiya was even more eager to try.
"Heal your injuries yourself slowly!" Masahiko glared at him.
Shaking his head, Masahiko stood up.
A group of people had also gathered on the other side of the tent. At the very front were Tsunade, Nawaki, and Michiyama, along with a few scattered Senju clansmen.
"Kenji... sent off another one, huh."
