Chapter 117 - Chapter 117: Shadows Multiply

They didn't fall.

They poured.

From the torn sky above, shadows spilled into the world like a broken floodgate—twisting, stretching, solidifying as they descended.

One became five.

Five became dozens.

Dozens—

Became an army.

Each figure carried the same distorted presence as the first entity—but weaker, incomplete… and yet still overwhelming.

The air grew heavier with every second.

The ground cracked deeper.

The sky darkened further.

Lyra's golden eyes reflected them all.

"…This isn't just a breach…"

Her voice was barely a whisper.

"…It's an invasion."

---

"Everyone—tight formation!" Orion commanded immediately.

The Celestial Warriors regrouped, instincts overriding exhaustion.

Orion and Lyra stood at the center.

Serena and Kael shifted forward-left, preparing to intercept the first wave.

Zane and Seraphina took the right flank, already analyzing movement patterns in the descending shadows.

Emma and Kai positioned themselves slightly behind, ready to reinforce wherever needed.

Sofia and Nero remained further back, their focus sharp—watching, calculating.

Mia stayed with Rafael, though both were now standing.

"You sure you can fight?" she asked, her voice low.

Rafael smirked faintly. "No. But I will anyway."

"…Idiot."

"Yeah."

Above them—

The first wave accelerated.

"They're not waiting," Kai muttered.

"Of course they're not," Zane replied. "Wouldn't be fun otherwise."

Serena exhaled sharply.

"Get ready."

---

Lyra's heartbeat thundered in her ears.

Not from panic.

Not anymore.

But from pressure.

So many.

So fast.

So overwhelming.

Her mind tried to calculate.

Tried to predict.

Tried to understand—

And failed.

"This is too much…" she thought.

Her fingers trembled slightly.

"If we fight them all at once—"

A hand brushed hers again.

Orion.

"You're thinking too far ahead."

She blinked.

"They're an army."

"So are we."

Her lips parted slightly.

"We're twelve," she said.

"And enough," he replied instantly.

She looked at him.

Really looked.

There was no hesitation in his eyes.

No doubt.

Just certainty.

"You don't have to fight everything," he continued. "Just fight what's in front of you."

The words hit differently this time.

Simpler.

Sharper.

Lyra exhaled slowly.

"…One step at a time."

Orion nodded.

"Exactly."

Her grip steadied.

Her breathing slowed.

The chaos didn't disappear.

But it became manageable.

"…Okay."

Her flames ignited again.

Calm.

Controlled.

Ready.

---

Lyra raised her hand.

Golden aether flowed outward—but instead of expanding wildly—

It split.

Dividing into smaller, controlled streams.

Serena noticed instantly. "She's… distributing her output?"

"Not just that," Nero said quietly.

"…She's optimizing it."

Each stream of golden flame hovered in the air around them—small, precise, stable.

Not overwhelming.

But efficient.

Lyra's eyes sharpened.

"I can't overpower all of them," she said.

"So I won't try."

The flames shifted—

Positioning themselves around the team like floating shields.

"Adaptive defense," Sofia murmured.

Kai nodded. "That changes everything."

Orion smirked slightly.

"Good thinking."

Lyra didn't respond.

Her focus was locked forward.

This wasn't about power anymore.

It was about control.

---

Phase 1 — Opening Clash

The first shadows hit.

Fast.

Violent.

Kael charged forward, his weapon igniting as he slammed into the front line.

"COME ON!"

BOOM—

The first shadow shattered under his strike.

But immediately—

Three more replaced it.

Serena moved beside him, her attacks precise, cutting through the unstable forms.

"They regenerate from the breach!" she shouted.

"Then we keep cutting them down!"

Behind them, Zane and Seraphina engaged the right flank.

Seraphina's wings flared as she struck from above, disrupting multiple shadows at once.

Zane followed through, finishing them with brutal efficiency.

Emma stepped in to reinforce, her strikes pushing enemies back.

Kai supported from mid-range, intercepting attacks before they could reach the core formation.

Phase 2 — Reaction

"They're coordinating," Sofia said sharply.

Indeed—

The shadows began shifting patterns.

Instead of mindless attacks—

They started targeting weaker points.

Mia.

Rafael.

The support line.

"Back!" Nero warned.

Two shadows broke through—

But Lyra reacted instantly.

Her golden flames moved—

Intercepting the attacks mid-air.

BOOM—

The impact was absorbed.

Redirected.

"Nice!" Rafael shouted.

"Focus!" Mia snapped.

Phase 3 — Escalation

The shadows grew more aggressive.

Faster.

Stronger.

Their forms stabilized slightly—becoming harder to destroy.

Serena clicked her tongue. "They're evolving mid-fight."

Kael grinned despite it. "Good. I hate boring fights."

Lyra stepped forward slightly.

"I can disrupt them!"

She extended her hand—

Golden flames surged outward in a focused wave.

Instead of destroying—

They destabilized the shadows' forms.

"They're weakening!" Seraphina called out.

"Then hit them NOW!" Orion shouted.

Phase 4 — Turning Point

The team synchronized.

Attacks flowed together.

Precise.

Efficient.

For a moment—

They gained ground.

The shadows were pushed back.

Destroyed faster than they could reform.

But then—

The main entity moved.

A single gesture—

And the entire battlefield shifted.

The shadows froze.

Then—

Merged.

Dozens of them compressed into fewer, larger forms.

Stronger.

Denser.

"…that's not good," Kai muttered.

Phase 5 — Result Shift

The new forms dropped.

Heavier.

Faster.

One slammed into Kael—

BOOM—

Sending him crashing back.

"Kael!" Serena shouted.

Another struck Zane, forcing him to block with both arms.

Even Orion stepped back under the increased pressure.

Lyra's eyes widened.

"They're… upgrading…"

The battlefield tilted again.

They had adapted—

But the enemy had adapted faster.

---

Kael pushed himself up, coughing slightly. "Okay… that one actually hurt."

Serena helped him steady. "No kidding."

Zane smirked despite the strain. "Now it's interesting."

Emma shook her head. "You say that every time."

Kai's expression remained serious. "We're losing efficiency."

Sofia nodded. "We need a new strategy—fast."

Mia looked at Lyra. "Can you disrupt those larger forms too?"

Lyra hesitated.

"…Not the same way."

Nero stepped forward slightly.

"Then we stop fighting them individually."

Everyone looked at him.

"…We target the source."

Silence.

Then—

Orion's eyes sharpened.

"The main entity."

---

The battlefield had changed again.

The swarm became elites.

The pressure doubled.

Their advantage—

Gone.

But now—

They understood something critical.

The shadows weren't the enemy.

They were extensions.

---

The main entity slowly descended further.

Closer.

More real.

More present.

Its eyes locked onto Lyra.

"…you adapt well…"

Her body tensed.

"…but not enough."

It raised its hand.

The crack in the sky pulsed violently—

And then—

A second tear began forming beside it.

Lyra's breath caught.

"…Another one…?"

Orion's voice dropped.

"…No…"

The second tear widened—

Faster than the first.

More unstable.

More violent.

And from within it—

Something far more powerful began to emerge.

Not a shadow.

Not a fragment.

Something real.

Something worse.

The entity's voice echoed one final time—

"…now… witness the next phase."

The sky shattered further—

And the war escalated beyond control.

Because this time… something stronger was coming through.
