The Alpha who had marked me as his target from our first encounter, the one I desperately needed to avoid, had become both my stalker and my quarry in this twisted game.
But I refused to play the role of helpless prey. I would only submit when it served my purposes.
The horn's call barely echoed through the air before I launched myself forward. Blood roared in my ears as I threw myself into the mass of Alpha candidates charging toward the forest entrance. I kept my eyes fixed ahead, though I could sense Max's presence like ice against my spine. His attention felt like death itself watching me, patient and inevitable.
Move faster. Get away now.
I melted into the crowd, using my smaller frame to slip between the broader shoulders of male Alphas. My head stayed low, breathing controlled despite my racing heart that felt ready to burst from my chest. Every instinct demanded I shift into wolf form, but I couldn't risk it.
