Jasmin's POV
Warmth enveloped me like silk, a cocoon of comfort I hadn't felt in weeks. My body melted into this sanctuary, every muscle releasing tension I'd carried like armor. Breathing came easy, deep and untroubled. My limbs felt loose, rested in a way that seemed impossible.
Far too rested. Dangerously relaxed.
Golden light filtered through my eyelids, painting everything in soft amber hues. My pulse stuttered.
Morning light.
My eyes snapped open, heart hammering against my ribs.
Had I actually fallen asleep? The memory surfaced slowly - talking with Max, the sweet taste of guava on my tongue, his voice growing distant as drowsiness claimed me. But how could I have let my guard down so completely? Something about that fruit, the way sleep had dragged me under so suddenly...
No time to analyze it now. I needed to move.
I started to push myself upright, then froze completely.
A figure lay beside me, close enough that I could count his eyelashes.
Max.
