I didn't mind the dark, not even the silence between pen strokes that seemed to stretch infinitely long. What bothered me was the cold sweat running down my neck, a feeling as if dread and foreboding had a child and made me its caretaker.

Almost an answer to the dis ease forming in my gut, my phone let out a sharp chime.

"Ms. Kira, your phone."

I didn't argue, bringing my phone to Ms. Kim's desk. Not before flicking it on to check the notification.

(-It's Eliya, don't look for me. I'm…-) The notification cut off there, I'd need to expand it to read the rest. It was clear from Ms. Kim's face that she wouldn't allow me.

My worry only grew, but I swallowed it and sat back in my seat. My lips curled upwards as I looked at my desk mate with a shrug. We laughed before getting back to work.

Time slithered past, and before I knew it, I was the only one left. Even Ms. Kim had left, which was odd. My phone still sat on her desk, so I quickly slid it into my pocket.

No amount of dread or strange foreboding was going to stop me from getting a good night's sleep. The classroom door had been left open, my only obstacle was the main door. It stood in the distance, as imposing as a dragon defending a princess's keep. The princess in this case was my bed.

My hand reached for the knob, which turned halfway before stopping with a click!

All reveries faded, my expression growing grim. I didn't waste a second, heading back into the classroom to check the windows.

Click!

They were also locked…from the outside.

The silence around me grew loud, louder than my own thoughts. My eyes fell on the vents, hesitating for only a brief moment before climbing into one.

The air was thick with dust and the surface under me dirty and full of grime.

Still, the feeling pressing against my heart told me to move. I covered my mouth with my sleeve before trekking through the dark space.

[Don't think, move.]

I came to a halt every few turns, only fully stopping once I had arrived at another vent. I was right above the front door.

Fresh air was coming in through somewhere; the outside was nearby.

My head craned to turn as much as it could in the narrow space.

"Haaaa~" A breath could just barely be heard.

I wasn't hearing things, there really was someone else here. My body moved before I gave the command, slamming down against the vent. The entire structure shook, a few more slams was all it took for it to break.

I just barely caught myself, landing on my feet. My head immediately snapped upwards, that was when I saw it. Kiki glared at me with amber eyes.

Her eyes were blue.

It was something she was very proud of, constantly flaunting how her boyfriend had compared them to the most dazzling of sapphires.

Why then did she glare at me with golden pupils, golden pupils that seemed to pierce through the darkness?

Before I could find answers to my own question, she lunged at me with speed a girl with 18 hours of screen time should not possess. She missed by mere centimetres, her serated 6.0 pink French tip nails would've taken out an eye had I been just a bit slower.

Not a second to rest, she threw a punch with the intention of taking my head. Her entire body turned with the punch and I felt the wind rush past me as my hands flew to my face.

Kiki shouldn't be this strong, no one should be this strong!

My arms suddenly felt numb, throbbing as if they had been hit with a bat. I struck Kiki's jaw with a knee, wrapping my arms around her neck before striking her chin a second time.

She growled. It was clear from this distance that her eyes were glowing.

"RAAAR!!!"

Nope, I wasn't fighting this animal. I rushed towards to classroom.

As the creature in Kiki's body burst in, I threw a chair at its head. It barely flinched as the chair snapped over its head. It lunged towards me, it took every ounce of strength in my body to hold it in place.

Pa! Its head slammed against the wall as I headbutted it.

Pa! Pa! Pa!

The glass shattered under the weight of the numerous impacts. I felt bad for Kiki, but at least I had escaped.

"HELP!"

My voice tore through the campus, but not a soul turned their heads. I ran up to a student, shaking them violently.

[They can't see me. How?]

None of this made sense but before I could rationalize a single thing, I saw Kiki burst through the destroyed window. Her head was submerged in blood, but her eyes the color of ichor shone through.

I turned tail, running towards the dorm. I cracked the door open and a face flew out to greet me.

"Ah!" It was Kiki's bloodied face.

My head slammed against the wall. I was back in the room.

Kiki's body lay unconscious under mine. I looked into the window, for a second, my eyes were amber too.

Step!

Not a moment of peace, steps were slowly approaching the room.
