Chapter 5 - Preparations Before Going Deeper

Levi tried it out and found that fully charging the Cryo Vision didn't consume much mana, less than a fifth of his current total.

And consuming 1 point of Cryo element could enchant a weapon for about 1 minute.

As for the increase in ability scores, it wasn't slow either. 1 point of Cryo element could temper his body for 1 minute. 10 minutes could increase Strength, Endurance, Dexterity, Agility, and Magic by 1 point each, averaging out to 1 ability point every two minutes.

That's 30 points in an hour, and 300 points in ten hours.

At the current stage, this was actually slightly higher than the gains from farming in the Dungeon.

However, considering that ability scores become harder to raise in the later stages, increasing them through the Vision was less reliable than exchanging Valis for them.

'Continue.'

After confirming the general effects of the Cryo Vision, Levi opened the Genshin gacha pool again and changed the designated item to the 3-star weapon, Recurve Bow, which could restore a small amount of the wielder's health upon killing an enemy.

However, perhaps because the previous double-blue pull had used up all his luck, or maybe Levi's inherent bad gacha luck suddenly flared up.

The first eight ten-pulls were all a uniform "one green, nine whites," and the final pity pull didn't drop the featured item either.

Instead, it gave him a skill book that seemed useless to Levi. After using it, it became:

[Mixology · 3-Star (Beginner 1%+): Preliminary mastery of bartending techniques.]

With the pulls finished, Levi opened his character panel.

He began to take stock of his haul.

From 180 pulls, he obtained a total of three 3-star items, twenty 2-star items, including thirteen +100 ability score boost tickets and seven 100-day skill proficiency boost tickets.

And 157 1-star items, including ninety-two +10 ability score boost tickets and sixty-five 10-day skill proficiency boost tickets.

Levi didn't save the ability score boost tickets, taking them out and using them all in one go.

Afterward, the five stats on his character panel became:

[Strength: E444/SS1099]

[Endurance: E443/SS1099]

[Dexterity: E444/SS1099]

[Agility: E464/SS1099]

[Magic: E446/SS1099]

As for the skill proficiency boost tickets, Levi initially thought about using them all as well.

However, after continuously using fourteen 10-day skill proficiency boost tickets and returning to the real world from the Gray Fog Space, a strong sense of dizziness suddenly washed over Levi's mind.

This was the 'mental fatigue' phenomenon from the world of DanMachi, caused by excessive consumption of magic.

[Mana Manipulation · 4-Star (Skilled 7%+ → Expert 8%+): Acquired Development Ability 'Mage G', allows for moderate intervention over one's own mana, slightly reduces mana consumption, and slightly increases the growth rate of magic proficiency.]

The effects of the system's items were very powerful, but the side effects that quickly accumulated after continuous use were clearly not something that Levi, who was still only comparable to an ordinary Lv. 2 adventurer in all aspects, could ignore.

Understanding that using even one more proficiency boost ticket would cause him to fall unconscious, he decided to quit while he was ahead, rare for him, skipping a night of training and lying on the bed spread-eagled.

Not even ten seconds later, soft snores could be heard from him.

About half a minute later, the bedroom door was pushed open.

Hestia, wearing a long white dress with her ample chest supported by a blue ribbon, quietly entered the room.

The black-haired goddess climbed onto the wooden bed, carefully lifted the head of her only familia member, and placed it on her soft lap. Looking down at the boy, her rather youthful face bloomed with an unprecedented maternal glow.

"You've already worked so hard, so for now, please rest well."

...

Levi's biological clock was very stable; no matter how tired he was the day before, he would always wake up around five in the morning the next day.

However, just as his consciousness cleared, he felt a soft warmth in his arms.

Not being a complete novice from his past life, Levi lifted the blanket and, just as expected, the sight that greeted him was Hestia, sound asleep while hugging him.

Levi raised an eyebrow, and changing from the frivolous demeanor he had shown since they first met, he carefully slipped out of the goddess's embrace.

Then, after leaving a message, "Today's breakfast is toast, fried eggs, bacon, and a vegetable salad. Remember to get up and eat later," he pushed the door open and left the room.

Just as the door closed, the black-haired goddess, who had been sound asleep, suddenly snapped her eyes open.

She turned her head, glanced vaguely in the direction Levi had left, and muttered softly, "Hmph, coward~"

Yet, for some reason, a faint smile appeared on her face.

Levi actually knew Hestia was awake, and Hestia knew that Levi knew she was awake.

The reason they both played dumb was just a small, playful part of their daily lives.

After spending half an hour preparing breakfast along with lunch, Levi grabbed a few easy-to-eat sandwiches he had made and walked out of the residence while eating.

Today, he didn't rush to the Dungeon to grind monsters for money. Instead, he went straight to the commercial street on the upper floors of Babel—specifically, to the area specializing in selling weapons and armor for adventurers.

This wasn't Levi's first time visiting the commercial street. The three-piece apprentice practice set he wore was purchased on his first day in Orario from a blacksmith shop that was having a clearance sale.

Because it was a practice piece, and he caught a big discount promotion, the price for the three-piece set was only 4500 Valis in total.

But precisely because of this, although it hadn't taken any hits from monsters, the leather armor Levi wore had a strap that was about to break.

If he got it repaired, a few hundred Valis would likely keep it functional for another half a month.

However, considering he planned to venture into the deeper levels of the Dungeon starting today, Levi decided to go all the way and get a quality breastplate within his price range.

Using the system's scanning function, he could view the specific attributes of any item he touched.

Therefore, in less than twenty minutes, Levi picked out a decent piece of equipment from over a hundred works of mixed quality.

[Metal Plate Armor made from a high-level blacksmith's scraps · 2-Star: Sturdy, slightly increases magic defense.]

The price of the plate armor was reasonable, at 10,500 Valis.

Levi didn't haggle. After paying promptly at the counter, he put it on right away.

Then, remembering the new combat skill he had learned last night, he spent an extra 3000 Valis on ten quivers containing a total of 100 regular arrows, 100 arrows that could be imbued with magical elements, and a shortbow made of hardwood.

A quarter of an hour later...

In the safe zone between the Dungeon and the surface—the Path of Beginnings.

Levi walked forward slowly while using the 10-day skill proficiency boost tickets from his inventory.

One... two... three...

When the eleventh boost ticket turned to ash:

[Hunter's Archery · 3-Star (Beginner 1%+ → Expert 2%+): Acquired Development Ability 'Archer H', proficient in Hunter's Archery, slightly increases accuracy.]
