Vroooom

On a wide highway, the roar of an engine broke the night's silence.

Surrounded by a huge amount of trees, a truck was driving way above the speed limit. If there were any cops left, they'd be pulled over right now.

The truck was armored on all sides, with blazing floodlights on its roof lighting up the road.

Inside were the three survivors and their new friend Jhon. After finishing their conversation, they went straight to the garage outside the house, where Kamala was already inside, embarrassed.

You'd expect them to at least talk about what happened back at the house, but like it was no big deal, they didn't. There was no need to dig into something like that. Kate had no clue what actually went down, and Kamala wouldn't say a word even if a zombie bit her. So the embarrassment faded like a one-minute incense stick.

Right now they were on their way to the S.H.I.E.L.D base to "save" the world.

Meanwhile, the one who caused that whole incident, Jhon, instead of stressing about how to handle his relationship with the girls, was missing Elysra. He wanted to see the little dragon. For him, only a few hours had passed; for her, days.

If he felt like this, he couldn't even imagine how she was doing.

Though right now, sitting next to Kamala in the back seat, his furrowed brow matched his thoughts. 'Why do I feel like something huge happened at this point in the series?' he wondered to himself. He didn't remember the details exactly. He got bored fast while watching it, so he had no idea what going to that base really meant.

"Something wrong?" Kamala turned to look at him, confused by his focused expression. After what happened, it felt like a barrier had been removed, like they weren't complete strangers anymore, but a slight friendship was forming, and maybe, just maybe, something more. So she felt freer talking to him.

Jhon snapped out of his thoughts and looked at her intently, making her blush a little, but unlike before, she didn't look away this time; she held his gaze without hesitation. That made a smile form on his face.

"Nothing, just thinking." He answered, stopping staring and settling back in the seat. His sleek, elegant suit contrasted with the rugged truck he was in.

They had never asked him about the suit, assuming it must be something important. Honestly, they were more focused on looking at his face than what he was wearing.

"I see..." she said, about to go back to watching the trees when her eyes lit up; she remembered they hadn't asked about his life. So she tapped his shoulder to get his attention again. "Hey, you never told us where you're from. Is it nice?" she asked with an excited smile.

The two up front seemed distracted watching the road, but if you looked closely, their ears were angled a little toward the back, eavesdropping on the conversation.

"Where I'm from...?" He repeated the question like he was savoring it, memories flooding back: his life in Colombia, the joy of carnival, his family's happiness, his personal growth, everything.

Kamala noticed, so thinking he didn't want to say, she was about to tell him it wasn't obligatory, but Jhon didn't let her.

"Hmm... it's a Latin American country called Colombia. It's really beautiful." He confirmed with genuine happiness on his face. Just remembering it stirred feelings in him. He'd definitely take Elysra to carnival next year.

"What!? Your native language isn't English?" Kamala exclaimed. Riri and Kate looked just as surprised. "I thought it was; you're way too good at it."

She was genuinely shocked. Up until now Jhon had spoken perfect English, so they assumed it was his main language.

After a few minutes where he tried to avoid Kamala making him speak Spanish (which failed), something else made her curious.

"Hey, what about your family—do you have siblings?" she asked, truly interested.

At that question, the happiness slowly faded from Jhon's face. Memories of his parents came back—the death he still hadn't gotten over, the one that showed him how fragile life is.

"My parents..." His eyes flickered with memories again, warm and comforting, but that ended in tragedy.

Kate, watching them through the rearview mirror, frowned at his expression. One she knew very well—the look of someone who'd suffered loss. She sighed, knowing that even with the power to travel universes and grant wishes, you can't escape death.

After taking a moment to calm his sadness, he looked at her and answered: "They were incredible people, and great parents." He paused for a second. "Unfortunately an accident took them to a better place," he concluded with some regret.

These are the moments when he blames himself for not finding someone to wish them back. One part of him wants to do it at all costs. Another part thinks about everything it would involve. They're normal people who have no idea their son gained something impossible. How would they react to such a drastic life change? Plus, after learning about something as profound and intangible as the soul, he knows every living being has one. So he has no idea if the essence would bring back the actual souls of who his parents once were or just create perfect copies. He wants his parents, not clones.

Setting his pain aside, the sadness slowly left his face as he looked at Kamala. "But anyway, I learned to cope with it over time. Life goes on, I guess. They wouldn't have wanted me to live in pain." Kamala nodded, agreeing completely—she felt the same. Kate too. Riri just felt like a third wheel; she never even had a close relationship with her own parents.

Jhon, seeing the mood in the truck shift, slapped his thigh, the sound echoing in the small space. "Enough drama. Since I told you about me, now tell me about yourselves." He directed his gaze forward with a teasing grin. "Yeah, even you eavesdroppers up front."

"Ahem." The two coughed at the same time, faces red from being caught. No point hiding it now—they joined the conversation, talking about their families, cities, and likes. Creating a harmonious atmosphere in the truck. Not knowing what awaited them ahead.

....

One hour from the Valley of the Eternal Gods.

On the same highway, but coming the opposite way, the roar of a Harley motorcycle echoed through the silent place. Riding it was an African-American man with a neutral expression. His outfit was a mix of dark leather with white details everywhere, covered in strange symbols. On his back was a sword that gleamed in the darkness like moonlight. The peculiar thing: instead of normal human eyes, his were a silvery white, reflecting his current state.

It was Blade, once a vampire hunter, now Avatar of Khonshu, god of the Moon.

Right now he was heading to the Valley of the Gods on a mission from his "god."

Apparently, the god sensed that someone traveling with those girls was strong enough to hold back the zombified Captain Marvel long enough for him to kill her.

"Hope this isn't a false alarm that gets us killed," he whispered, but his expression didn't change. Whether he lived or died wasn't very relevant. His duty was to save them so they could deliver the transmitter to the base.

Knowing he had to act fast before the zombie queen noticed, he accelerated.

BRUUMMM–BRUUMMM

With that, he vanished, leaving only the dust kicked up by the bike's speed.

-------

In the Valley of the Gods, the truck kept moving, its passengers now silent. After half an hour of talking, Kamala had fallen asleep on Jhon's shoulder. The others didn't mind; they were tired too—except him.

In that moment of calm.

Jhon narrowed his eyes and let Wakfu surge from his body, this time releasing a huge amount of energy. Huge for anyone else—minuscule for someone with infinite supply. With the energy, his perception expanded. Right now, if he wanted, he could teleport up into the clouds with the two heavyweights locked in endless combat.

Yes, they'd reached the Valley—and that's when he realized what deep shit he'd stepped into.

Fucking Captain Marvel fighting fucking Ikaris—two beings with practically infinite energy. They couldn't tire, so the fight only ended when one died.

At that moment Jhon sensed a massive unknown energy heading straight for the truck. His eyes snapped open and he shouted to alert them: "Left side—watch out!"

Riri's eyes widened at the yell, but she yanked the wheel instantly, trusting his warning.

BOOOM

An energy beam slammed right beside the truck, making it lose balance momentarily. Riri skillfully kept them from flipping, managing to recover.

Kamala woke up instantly from the impact noise, eyes wide in alarm. Her powers activated, covering her hands with small cosmic-energy shields. "What happened?!"

"Shit!" Kate yelled too, gripping the handle out of instinct. "What was that?!"

"Jhon, tell us!" all three shouted. Riri kept looking ahead while the other two stared at him.

"Looks like we're not alone," he replied, looking out the window. They looked too, noticing the two blazing lights in the sky fighting. Their clashes in the clouds sent shockwaves scattering them with every impact. Thunder and energy beams rained down across the valley.

"W-who are they?"

Kamala swallowed hard, the sound audible throughout the truck. The others understood her feeling. Except Jhon had a different reaction.

Right now every hair on his body stood on end. His body pumped adrenaline like crazy, as if preparing for something. Only one thought ran through his mind: How long would it take him to beat Captain Marvel?

However, his excitement didn't come from recklessness, but from confidence in everything he'd learned so far. All that plus the plan he'd already formed, taking into account the supposed avatar approaching at high speed.

THRRUUM

A massive energy beam shot straight at the truck. Riri started to swerve, but Jhon had other plans. "Stop here," he said. As he spoke, he created a Wakfu portal above the truck, making the beam's impact never happen, then another near some trees, slicing them in half with the leftover energy.

Riri swallowed hard. Imagining what he'd done, but she didn't understand why he wanted to stop. "Why? It's better to keep going full speed to the base," she shot back. Though the paleness on her face showed her nerves.

"I need to distract them," Jhon said seriously, no hint of doubt in his voice as he stared at the constantly changing sky.

"WHAT!?" x2

Kamala and Kate didn't take that lightly.

"It's dangerous!" the first yelled, her face going pale instantly.

"Yeah! We don't even know who's fighting up there—they're super strong, you can't go!" The second simply didn't want him to leave; it meant too much. What if someone she was starting to see as close suddenly died? She couldn't lose anyone else—she wouldn't survive it. And... she needed time to understand her feelings.

"Plus, if you die, we can't save the world because your powers aren't ready yet," Kate continued, trying to reason logically instead of emotionally.

"Pff, sounds like I'm about to sacrifice myself," Jhon just laughed, shaking his head like it was a joke. He understood their worry (except maybe Kate's deeper one), but they had the wrong idea. He'd never sacrifice himself for the world—he wasn't that altruistic.

"It's not a joke!" x2. Kate and Kamala didn't find his comment funny. Here they were genuinely worried about their new friend, and he was mocking them.

"Girls, if I'm doing this, it's because I know I'll be back. I'm not sacrificing myself—not if it means leaving you alone." With unusual seriousness on his face, he spoke with conviction, making Kamala blush, thinking it was meant for her. Kate too, assuming it was for her.

"Besides, if I don't, the chances of us getting hit mid-fight are way too high. My job is to distract them. The second I see you're clear, I'll teleport right to you."

After saying that, he waited for them to process. Deep down they knew he was right—if they did nothing, one of them would probably die. But accepting it was harder than admitting it.

Riri, who'd stayed quiet until now, swallowed hard, not stopping the truck yet. She still hadn't listened to Jhon.

"W-what do you think your odds are of distracting them and getting out alive?" she asked, voice shaking a little.

"80%"

'That's high,' she thought. Then, breathing deeply, she said: "Alright, I'll listen to you."

Without giving the other two time to object, she slammed on the brakes with a screech that wasn't very audible over the constant booms from the fight's impacts.

Jhon, seeing her stop, reached for the door to open it. But a hand grabbed his arm, making him sigh. Did they really think he was about to throw his life away?

"Wait!" Kamala stopped him. Jhon turned to see what she had to say.

Kamala stared at his lips, terrified of what she wanted to do. She really wanted to, but her moments of courage seemed to have left her now. "Be careful... please..." she ended up saying, eyes watery, not doing what she'd planned.

Jhon just ruffled her hair. "I'll be fine. I still have to take you all to Colombia, remember?" he said with a smile, then turned to Kate and winked. She just frowned, saying nothing. After that, he opened the door and slowly took off his suit jacket, leaving him in his white shirt.

He was sacrificing his pants and white shirt for this—they should be grateful.

After a few seconds, he held it in his hands. He looked at the truck, walked to the other side, and handed it to Kate, whispering in her ear first: "Take care of it like it's your special arrow." She blushed, stunned. How did he know about her arrow?

Without an answer, she just looked at him and nodded, placing it on her lap.

"Alright, go," Jhon ordered, looking up. Riri nodded and floored the accelerator, disappearing from sight.

...

Jhon watched the truck vanish into the distance, leaving only a trail of dust. He took a deep breath—his heart pounding not from fear, but pure excitement.

BOOM

Another impact shook the night sky. Jhon looked up, and a grin spread across his lips.

Two figures clashed among the clouds with violence that defied logic. Ikaris, eyes blazing crimson red, fired cosmic energy beams that tore through the air. Facing him was Captain Marvel... or what was left of her.

Her skin was partially rotted, exposing muscle and bone in places. Her iconic suit was torn and stained with dried blood and viscous fluids. But her eyes glowed with that same unnatural red. And the most terrifying part: she still had all her power.

CRASH

Marvel blocked one of Ikaris's beams with her forearm, the energy dissipating against her invulnerable skin. Then she countered with a punch that created a visible shockwave, sending the Eternal flying back dozens of meters.

"Grrraaaahhh... huuungryyyy..." Marvel growled, her voice guttural and horrifying.

Ikaris recovered mid-air, eyes glowing brighter. He said nothing. Just fired an even stronger beam.

Jhon cracked his neck, stretching and bouncing lightly. He closed his eyes and let Wakfu flood his body.

He opened them—now glowing that signature cyan blue. Energy gathered at his forehead, forming two curved protrusions that solidified: his Eliatrope horns. About 15 centimeters long, glowing intensely blue and curving slightly backward. At first he'd thought only others could have horns because of him—cough, he still thought that—but right now he couldn't hold anything back if he wanted to live.

"LET'S GO!" he shouted to himself, slapping his thighs to psych himself up.

He flexed his fingers and opened a portal beneath his feet.

WOOSH

In an instant, he appeared 50 meters up—right in the path of the fight.

"HEY!" he yelled, voice amplified by Wakfu. "Sorry to interrupt!"

Both Ikaris and Marvel turned toward him.

Marvel reacted first. Her dead eyes locked onto Jhon and her mouth opened, revealing bloodstained teeth.

"Fressshhh... braaainnn..." she drooled, greenish saliva dripping from her jaws.

And she shot toward him like a living missile.

"Shit!"

Jhon opened a portal just as Marvel was about to reach him. He reappeared 30 meters to the left.

Marvel adjusted mid-flight without losing speed.

WOOSH Portal. He appeared above.

WOOSH Another portal. To the right.

WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH

He teleported frantically, Marvel chasing him like a relentless predator. Every time he reappeared, she was already turning toward his new position.

He popped out on a rocky outcrop. Marvel arrived a second later.

What did you think?

The interactions are long on purpose to show how their relationships grow. They're just as important as his power growth. That said, wishes are coming—two of them in chapter 13.

Who do you like better, Kamala or Kate? (Not even asking about Riri.)

Lastly, comment—it shows me you're supporting the fic. Thanks for reading.
