Elisabeth's POV
Alana used to call what existed between Jefferson and me a story. One of those tales told over and over again, though ours carried more twists and endless cycles that made it drag on longer than most. More exhausting too.
I should know since I was the one trapped inside it.
So what was this moment supposed to be? The inevitable separation scene where we break apart, discover we belong together, then reunite for our perfect ending.
Except several crucial elements didn't align with those classic narratives.
Like how Jefferson and I, regardless of what fate intended or the universe demanded, were never meant to be together.
How everything between us had ended permanently, with nothing capable of bringing us back.
And how this definitely wasn't some romantic story.
