Chapter 98 - Obsession with Death, Golden Crow Incarnation

"What's going on? Give me a detailed report immediately!" Faced with the emergency, Nick Fury immediately left his two subordinates and returned to the command center.

"Extremely high energy readings detected near the solar storm. Magnetic field detectors are also showing massive fluctuations. The temperature at the storm's center is dramatically increasing. Sir, this is very dangerous." "I can see that!"

Nick Fury's face turned ashen as he stared at the satellite imagery. Before his eyes, endless streams of golden liquid began to churn wildly, intertwining with each other as they desperately drilled towards the hottest core. It was as if they possessed their own life force. And as these terrifying solar winds tangled together, they formed a huge, scorching fireball directly in Earth's orbit, its radiant light and heat so intense that humans on the surface, tens of kilometers away, could clearly feel it. For a moment, it seemed like there were two suns in the sky.

"What the hell is going on? Is this Magneto's doing?" Nick Fury demanded loudly, but no one could answer him this time. All the technicians were stunned by the bizarre spectacle; the completely illogical situation made them feel like they had wasted their education.

"Damn it!" Nick Fury could only wave his hand fiercely, turning to his deputy and ordering, "Contact Quicksilver, I need to speak with Magneto!"

"Sir! I think you should take a look at this first!" Coulson pointed incredulously behind him. There, the satellite imagery showed another unpredictable change.

The giant fireball began to spontaneously collapse towards its center, with countless streams of gold converging into a single point, becoming a brilliant light that could not be directly observed with the naked eye. And within that light, a magnificent creature spread its wings.

Like feathers condensed from the most resplendent crimson gold, arranged like countless blades, its mere appearance exuded an indescribable majesty. Its golden, radiant eyes were as dazzling as miniature suns. Each time its enormous wings beat, countless solar winds swirled around it. Powerful, three sharp claws were tucked behind it, with golden flames flowing across them.

"What is this... monster?" Nick Fury exclaimed in astonishment. The sense of majesty and power made him feel as if he were in a myth, gazing directly at a mythical beast. But ultimately, he settled on that definition. Myths no longer existed, at least not for humans. Everything beyond comprehension could be labeled a monster.

However, no one answered his question, partly because they didn't know how to, and partly because their minds were captivated by this beautiful and magnificent creature.

The golden divine bird danced in the endless expanse of space. It circled a few times, absorbing the scorching solar storm into itself, then suddenly lowered its head and plunged into the vast atmosphere of Earth. Its speed was unbelievable; with just a flash of light, it completely disappeared from the surveillance of the satellites. This speed, completely incongruous with its massive size, astonished everyone watching.

"Quick, find its trail. We can't let this creature roam freely on Earth." Nick Fury commanded loudly, having realized what was happening. He clearly saw how the divine bird devoured the almost infinite solar storm. If it appeared on Earth, he didn't know how they could stop it. It was a creature that condensed the power of countless solar winds. When it appeared where it shouldn't, it would bring true destruction.

At this moment, Commander Hill suddenly spoke. "Sir, Paris. I think it's heading towards Paris. I believe there must be a connection between it and the Dawn Knight. If that's the case, it will definitely fly to Paris."

"Can you tell me the reason for your judgment, Commander Hill?" Nick Fury asked. He couldn't commit precious resources based on speculation; he might lose even more. Therefore, he wanted to know the reasoning behind his subordinate's assessment; he needed a reason to convince himself.

"Intuition, sir. It's my intuition!" Facing Nick Fury's gaze, Commander Hill stood up straight and answered calmly. However, her answer left Nick Fury completely dissatisfied.

"Intuition, this isn't a battlefield, Commander. You're going to pay for your intuition."

"I trust my intuition, sir. It's the only direction we have right now." Commander Hill never stopped because of what others thought, not even when that look came from a one-eyed man.

Nick Fury stared at the subordinate who was unusually resolute. He eventually gave the order. "Point all satellites at Paris. I want to know everything happening in that city. Also, Commander Hill, you better hope everything goes according to your intuition, or you can prepare to put your resignation letter on my desk."

"Yes, sir!" With Commander Hill's emotionless response, all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s monitoring power began to shift towards Paris.

Meanwhile, in Paris. On top of the Eiffel Tower, Magneto was facing another problem. As the victor in his mind, he felt he had the right to take the bet of this battle, the mutant Rogue. However, someone clearly didn't think so, as a woman stood in his way. Therefore, he could only patiently say.

"Storm, you should know that your side lost this bet. As the losers, can't you just stand aside and watch me take what the victor deserves?"

Ororo had obviously gone through a tough battle. She had many obvious wounds on her body, and her uniform was somewhat tattered. But the fact that she could stand here meant she had cleared all obstacles. However, she wasn't proud at all; instead, guilt began to brew in her heart.

She frantically scanned her surroundings, almost as if she wanted to turn over every corner. But in the end, she couldn't find what she was looking for. So she could only croak out a voice that was completely unlike her usual tone.

"Where is he? Tell me. Magneto, where did he go?"

"You mean Dawn Knight? I'm so sorry, my dear." Magneto, Erik, slightly lowered his eyes. "I'm afraid you won't be able to find him anymore. He should be buried in the sun's brilliance by now. There probably isn't even a so-called corpse left."

"No, no…" Ororo's mental state almost reached the point of collapse. "You're lying! You're deceiving me with lies!"

"I'm sorry, child! This is a battle that can't be stopped. I admit he was a great warrior, but this is a warrior's fate. Get out of the way; you can't stop me." Magneto stood in the void, answering her with a somewhat regretful tone. He had given Dawn Knight a chance, but this chance wasn't cherished. Then naturally, someone had to pay the price, even if the price was so high that it was unacceptable.

"No, Yi!" Ororo covered her face, tears starting to stream down her cheeks. Around her, storms, lightning, and ice and snow all surged forth, that frenzied posture fully reflecting her state of mind at this moment. The sorrow of losing a loved one, and the pain that went deep into her bones.

Magneto sighed and silently walked towards Rogue. He didn't think he was wrong, but he didn't think Dawn Knight was wrong either.

This was a tragic world. Their stances had already destined their opposition, and in this opposition, sacrifice was always unavoidable. As an old man who had lived through centuries, he had seen too many of these tragedies, and his heart had long been numb.

His only goal now was to build a perfect world that could accommodate all mutants. He believed that in that world, such tragedies would no longer exist. At that time, all sacrifices could be accepted.

He slowly opened his palm towards Rogue. For him, this was the key to the door of a new world. And at the instant he reached out, a bolt of lightning struck him.

The winding electric snake was instantly shattered by the magnetic field, and countless minute sparks of electricity flickered, but it was already meaningless. Following the direction of the electric light, Magneto, Erik, turned his gaze to Ororo.

"Don't you understand that doing this is meaningless? You have already failed, why are you still doing this? Haven't enough sacrifices been made?"

The answer he received was a howling storm, and even more dense lightning. Ororo hung in mid-air, the power of nature transformed into wind, snow, and ice. Lightning and storms reflected around her. These terrifying powers were now like countless drawn bows and arrows, directly pointing at Magneto's body. And under Ororo's control, they surged forward like roaring beasts.

Pain had already overwhelmed Ororo's heart, and she now had only one thought. Revenge, revenge with the life of Magneto, Erik Lehnsherr. Under this nearly insane idea, her abilities began to increase in power infinitely. The surging power of wind, frost, and lightning storms almost plunged the entire Eiffel Tower into an endless natural storm, and even the nearby urban area began to be covered by the terrifying frost and snow.

But, for Magneto, such power was not enough. The power that could not shake the earth itself was powerless to touch his body. Ororo's power was certainly strong, but there was a long way to go before she could shake the earth.

"Can't you ever learn, the price you pay for stopping me!" Magneto's face became ferocious, he had been thoroughly angered by repeated offenses. "I am fighting for the future of mutants, for this goal, I have sacrificed everything I could sacrifice. Why, you guys still stand in my way, don't you know my purpose, don't you really fear death?"

He waved his hands, and countless metals turned into sharp spears, rising from the tower. These spears pierced the sky surrounded by the storm with a sharp whistling sound, quickly leaving no time to react. One after another, finally, like a dense, crisscrossing cage, they controlled Ororo in mid-air.

Even while imprisoned by Magneto, Ororo was still trying to control her powers, launching futile attacks. She had completely disregarded her own life; when faced with love and life, she chose the former.

"I understand, Storm. Since you want to die so badly, go find that knight who's already dead. I'll grant you your wish!" Magneto closed his eyes, and the magnetic storm coil gathered a chaotic and terrifying thunderstorm. These terrifying bolts of lightning were all under his control, ready to attack the direction he specified.

"Become a part of the insignificant sacrifice, Storm. Your love is worthless in the face of the mutants' great undertaking, die." Countless thunderstorms converged, rushing towards the steel spear-woven cage. In the face of such a terrifying lightning storm, everything was destined to be obliterated.
