Zhou Yi opened his eyes, and the first things he saw were the warm-toned walls and dim lighting. The sky was the dark of night, but there was a striking whiteness outside. Focusing his gaze, he realized it was snowing heavily, with large, fluffy flakes. The ground was covered in a thick layer of snow. Against the backdrop of the snow, the deep night was tinged with a joyful white.
Seeing the white, Zhou Yi froze for a moment, then shook his head in a daze, a wry smile playing on his lips. It was almost Christmas, of course it would snow. It seemed he'd been far too busy lately, even his sense of time was messed up.
Thinking of this, he sat up from the clean, warm bed, clutching his head. Although his brain was still in a dazed state from a prolonged period of rest, it didn't affect his ability to judge his surroundings.
This was a hospital room, or at least it looked like one. Zhou Yi could make that much of a guess from the various monitoring instruments around him and the hospital gown he was wearing. However, he wasn't sure exactly where the hospital was located.
He just hoped it wasn't a hospital room in Paris, because that would increase the possibility of his identity being exposed to a certain degree. Also, and most importantly, Zhou Lan and Xia Ruis would find out about this, which was the last thing he wanted.
Of course, there was also another reason: he didn't want to be burdened with the astronomical reconstruction debt of a damaged Paris. He was rich, yes, but not in that way.
In fact, all this was just aimless daydreaming for Zhou Yi. If he really wanted to know the answer, he could easily use his Super Vision to pinpoint his location with precision, which was definitely much better than GPS. But he didn't feel like it. After experiencing such a battle, he suddenly found a sense of weariness growing within him.
It wasn't that he had grown to hate the dangerous career of a superhero. It was just that he needed some time to catch his breath. Everything that had happened recently had made him feel a strong sense of aversion, and he'd already received the praise of a hero. It was time to rest for a while.
With this mindset, he began to consider controlling his power and experiencing the life of an ordinary person, allowing the Dawn Knight to temporarily withdraw from the world. This might not be a bad thing for him. At the very least, it could save him from troublesome public opinion. He knew very well that in the matter of Paris, public opinion wouldn't be very favorable to him.
Although he saved Paris, for that city, his arrival was also what brought them this disaster. Humans weren't idiots; they would always find out that it was all because of his duel with Magneto. And once someone with ulterior motives aimed their guns at him, he wouldn't have the leisure to defend himself.
Rather than waiting to die, it was better to disappear. When the next disaster came, humans would always remember his good deeds. It would be the wisest choice to appear again at that time.
As a businessman, it was not surprising that he had such thoughts. He didn't need to change anything because of his heroic identity. He was who he was, the unique Dawn Knight - Zhou Yi. He didn't need to accommodate anyone.
Zhou Yi silently planned his future plans, when. Someone pushed the door open and walked in; it was Ororo.
She was wearing a casual home dress, and she was also holding hot food and water in her hands. Obviously, this was prepared for someone, and Zhou Yi was sure that he was the lucky guy. But what he cared about was not this, but Ororo's somewhat haggard expression. Although she used light makeup to cover her face, Zhou Yi could still keenly find that she had some dark circles under her eyes and a thinner face.
"Hey, dear. What should I say, long time no see?" Temporarily suppressing this question in his heart, Zhou Yi greeted Ororo.
Hearing this familiar voice, Ororo's hand trembled. A clear smile began to appear on her face; she looked at the source of the sound, and there, the most familiar person was leaning on the bed, waving at her with a smile.
"Thank God, Yi. You're finally awake!" Ororo replied urgently, practically lunging towards the bed. Her abrupt movement nearly tipped over the plate in her hands, but fortunately, Zhou Yi steadied the important items.
Seriously, he was starving.
Holding Ororo's hand with one hand and firmly pressing down on the plate with the other, Zhou Yi said with a smile, "Darling, you're too excited. Let me guess, is it the big surprise of me finally waking up after sleeping for many years that's got you so worked up?"
"Yi!" Ororo chided him, drawing out his name, but her other hand tightly clasped Zhou Yi's large hand. As if drawing warmth and security, her grip was very tight, to the point where her knuckles began to turn slightly white. But she herself just stared at Zhou Yi with a gentle look. She seemed unable to express her feelings with words, only able to show them in this most direct way.
Zhou Yi smiled at Ororo's actions and gently caressed the back of her hand. He felt Ororo's emotions, which made him proud and guilty. Proud because he had a woman who loved him like this. Guilty because he had caused her so much worry and fear. For a moment, they fell into a warm silence.
Sometimes, emotions become even more resilient in the face of great adversity. Zhou Yi and Ororo were like this; their feelings became deeper because of this event, and they went deeper into each other's hearts.
The two of them warmed each other's hands and hearts like this until Zhou Yi's stomach let out a protesting rumble. Only then did Ororo burst out laughing.
"Sorry, I forgot you must be starving. I was just preparing some things as a matter of routine. I didn't expect you to actually wake up."
"Thank goodness for food," Zhou Yi said, immediately picking up a sandwich from the tray. Thick slices of toast held a glistening, perfectly fried beef patty and a beautifully cooked fried egg. Of course, the sandwich was also packed with fresh green vegetables and sauce. Apparently, because it was made entirely to Zhou Yi's tastes, the sauce didn't use the usual salad dressing but a chili sauce that very few people loved. Of course, the portion size was also generous, catering to Zhou Yi's preferences.
Zhou Yi was absolutely not stingy with praise for a sandwich that looked and tasted so good and was made entirely to his liking. After devouring the sandwich, he began to speak in an exaggerated tone.
"Ororo, I think your skills have made a breakthrough. According to my assessment as a professional gourmet, your sandwich has definitely reached the world's top level. Maybe I should call over those Michelin-starred chefs and let them learn something."
"Oh my, you're exaggerating. I think you must be starving, and your brain can't even distinguish the taste anymore," Ororo rolled her eyes, but she was smiling happily.
"Really? But I am really starving. I think I could even eat a hundred of these sandwiches. Or I could go and participate in a competitive eating contest. I think I could eat all the food on the field."
"Then you'll be the headline: 'Billionaire gorges himself at a competitive eating contest, and the organizers strongly request he pay the bill.' Hey, slow down. You should drink something first."
"Thank you, dear." After taking the hot milk from Ororo, Zhou Yi finished the cup. Only after completely satisfying his appetite did he put down the cup and ask Ororo.
"Darling, can you tell me how long I've been out, and what happened after?"
"Don't worry!" Ororo carefully wiped away the food crumbs on him, a gentle smile on her face. "Magneto has completely disappeared. Given his character, he won't show up in front of Rogue again. Also, Jean and Logan only suffered minor injuries and recovered quickly. Only you… you've been unconscious for a week. I didn't dare take you to a hospital, so I had to bring you back to the Academy using the Academy's plane. However, I've already made an excuse for your family. You were asked to help evacuate some of the people in Paris, and you can't get away for now. This excuse should buy us some more time."
"Alright, it seems like everything is fine. But, Ororo. Can you tell me why you're so tired? Your complexion doesn't look very good, you could even say it's terrible. I can see it through the makeup."
"Just some small things, and of course, the main reason is that I was worried about you. There's nothing else wrong. I'll recover soon." Ororo forced a smile onto her face, trying to brush it off with words. But for Zhou Yi, this was completely useless. His understanding of Ororo was enough for him to distinguish whether every word she said was true or false.
Gently holding her hand, Zhou Yi put on a sincere smile.
"Darling, I'm very happy that you're so worried about me. But I know that's not the whole story. I know my own situation very well, and it wouldn't make you look so haggard. Tell me the truth, okay? We are halves of each other, you can completely place all your burdens on me."
"Really, there's nothing, Yi!"
"Ororo, look me in the eye. Tell me what problems you're hiding in your heart, okay?"
"Alright!" Ororo exhaled with difficulty; she really needed someone to share the pressure she was under. "Something happened at the Academy. Professor and Scott suddenly disappeared. Jean's mental state is a bit unstable, and Logan seems to be back to his old ways. And the most critical thing is that there are only the three of us and Hank at the Academy, which puts a lot of pressure on me. Because I have to take care of the school while the Professor is away."
"But, at this very moment, something big happened again. The President was attacked by mutants, although there's no life-threatening issue. However, the President has already requested to propose a solution to the mutant problem. At this moment, I really don't know what to do."
Listening to Ororo's outpouring, Zhou Yi silently embraced her and gently kissed her forehead.
"Don't worry, my dear. I will help you solve these problems."
"No, you don't have to. Your own problems are very serious, and we can solve this. We don't need your help, really. Yi, you don't need to get involved in this. It has nothing to do with you, you've already got enough trouble." Ororo immediately refused Zhou Yi's offer. She knew what the public opinion was like right now. The Dawn Knight had to face things that were no easier than theirs. She really didn't want Zhou Yi to do such a foolish thing at this time.
"No, my dear. It has something to do with me, at least we have a connection with the Professor."
"Professor?" A clear sense of confusion immediately appeared in Ororo's voice; she discovered something she didn't know.
