Veronica's POV
Clark strode out of the room moments later. His eyes briefly met mine as he passed by the doorway, but he didn't pause—just continued straight down the stairs without uttering a single word.
I stepped back into the room to find Leonardo seething with fury. He looked ready to destroy something, but with only the bed within arm's reach, he took out his rage by pounding his fists against the mattress.
The hostility between father and son caught me off guard. No surprise Clark had waited this long to visit.
I approached him cautiously. "Leonardo, what's this about? What could make you despise your father this much? Did he bring home a stepmother and give you half-siblings?"
"Shut up!" Leonardo snarled, clearly unwilling to discuss it.
I didn't push, but the pieces were starting to fit together. Their heated argument about events from years back—I had my suspicions. My research showed that Clark's first wife had vanished years ago.
