Leonardo's POV
The convoy roared away from the identification agency, tires gripping asphalt with urgency.
I slumped into the back seat, fury and ice coursing through my veins. "Tony, you have Veronica's number? Call her now!"
Tony's fingers flew across his phone screen. The dial tone echoed in the car's silence before cutting to nothing.
"Mr. Nelson, it's not connecting!"
"Send a text."
His thumbs worked frantically, but seconds later his face fell. "Mr. Nelson, she's blocked my number."
The words hit like a punch to the gut. I went silent, my thoughts spiraling into chaos. It felt like watching a kite's string snap, seeing it disappear into an endless sky.
Was reaching her really this impossible now? Had she wiped every trace of the Nelson family from her life after our divorce? Had she severed every connection so completely?
I yanked at my tie, the silk suddenly suffocating. Sinking deeper into the leather seat, my mind raced until clarity struck like lightning.
