Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: The Operation to Capture Captain America Begins

"Quiz completed. The answer analysis will now begin."

The system's notification suddenly rang out, and Nick Fury and Iron Man immediately composed themselves, focusing their gazes on the large screen.

Captain America, though unaware of what the so-called explanation entailed, also looked up, awaiting what would happen next.

Under their watchful eyes, a video began to play.

Inside an incredibly spacious office, two men were seated face-to-face, seemingly deep in conversation.

One of the men was dressed in a uniform typically worn by circus performers, with a shield strapped to his back—it was none other than Captain America.

The other man, estimated to be in his fifties or sixties, appeared somewhat aged, yet exuded an undeniable aura of authority.

Clearly, he was no ordinary person.

"Is that Alexander Pierce?" Iron Man couldn't help but turn to glance at Nick Fury and ask.

Nick Fury nodded, saying little, his eyes still fixed intently on the screen.

"Captain, why did Nick visit your home last night?" Alexander Pierce looked directly at Captain America and asked.

Captain America pondered for a moment, then shook his head: "I don't know."

"Did you know the place was bugged?"

"Yes, Nick Fury told me."

"Did he tell you he was the one bugging it?"

Alexander Pierce asked again.

Captain America was speechless, evidently not having anticipated that point at all.

The office fell into a temporary silence and stillness.

Everyone in front of the screen was also silent, deep in thought.

From the conversation between Pierce and Captain America, it was easy to deduce that this occurred after Nick Fury's death.

And before his death, Nick Fury had gone to Captain America's home, seeking him out.

Currently, why Nick Fury sought out Captain America was unclear, but he had been monitoring Captain America all along.

This matter, for now, seemed quite perplexing.

"Captain, let me show you something."

After a moment of silence, Alexander Pierce brought up a video and played it for Captain America.

Following that, he produced some bank transfer records and other related documents, handing them to Captain America.

Those documents indicated that Nick Fury had hired a group of pirates as a cover, secretly engaging in the sale of intelligence, and was ultimately killed after a deal with his client fell through.

This made Captain America repeatedly cast strange glances at Nick Fury, and even Iron Man's gaze towards Nick Fury was full of peculiarity.

Someone capable of reaching the position of head of an intelligence agency would naturally not be a saint; their past would certainly not be spotless.

Even if Nick Fury truly engaged in selling intelligence, Iron Man stated that he wouldn't find it particularly surprising.

"That's absolutely impossible!"

Nick Fury, however, adamantly denied it. "This is blatant slander and a frame-up, a scheme orchestrated by the mastermind behind my murder!"

"Killed because I sold intelligence and a deal with a client fell through? This is an insult to me! Am I really that incompetent?"

"I can lead the Avengers in a great battle against an alien invading army, yet die over something so absurd?"

Nick Fury almost burst out laughing.

"If you truly understood Nick Fury, you would know this is simply impossible."

On the screen, Captain America also firmly told Alexander Pierce.

It was evident that the future Captain America had immense trust in Nick Fury.

"So… why do you think I called you here?"

Secretary Pierce spread his hands.

Then he launched into a lengthy discourse in front of Captain America.

Finally, he gazed at Captain America and said, "Captain, you were the last person to see Nick Fury. That can't be a coincidence."

"So, I'll ask you one last time, why did he go to your place?"

"He told me not to trust anyone." After a moment of contemplation, Captain America finally spoke to Pierce.

"Does that include himself?" Pierce pressed aggressively.

"I'm sorry, those were his last words." After Captain America said this to Pierce, he didn't waste any more words.

He greeted Pierce, picked up his shield, and walked out.

"Captain America didn't tell the truth; Nick Fury clearly gave him some crucial information," Iron Man said. "He doesn't trust Pierce."

This was evident; both Captain America and Nick Fury could see it.

"Indeed, I chose to tell the Captain that information before I died. It seems… the Captain was the person I trusted most at that time." Nick Fury slowly spoke.

Captain America's refusal to reveal the truth despite Pierce's aggressive questioning also sufficiently demonstrated his trust in Nick Fury.

And even more obviously, it was precisely because of Captain America's silence that Pierce subsequently attempted to apprehend him.

"Captain!"

As Captain America reached the doorway, Pierce suddenly called out to him.

"Someone murdered my friend, and I will track them down to the end."

"Anyone who stands in my way, I will make them regret it, no matter who!"

These two sentences were full of menace, yet Captain America still said nothing more and simply left Pierce's office.

The scene then cut, showing Captain America descending in an elevator.

During this time, many other people entered the elevator, including armed personnel like Crossbones and suited civilian staff.

Everyone chatted and laughed, discussing various things; everything seemed so normal.

"These people were all sent by Pierce, preparing to deal with the Captain." Nick Fury said with certainty after just one glance.

How sharp was this intelligence chief's observation skills? He almost instantly spotted the problem.

Although Crossbones deliberately tried to act nonchalant and even attempted to greet and speak to Captain America, making everything seem normal.

However, several people among them clearly felt unnatural, appearing somewhat nervous, with some even breaking into a sweat on their foreheads.

As for the civilians in suits, ordinary people might not notice anything, but Nick Fury, being specially trained, immediately recognized that they were armed personnel in disguise.

The specially trained agents, their demeanor, including some habitual small movements, actually left traces.

It wasn't as if changing clothes made them unrecognizable.

If Nick Fury could spot the problem, then Captain America, being in that situation, naturally also noticed something was amiss.
