Chapter 1 - Prologue - Betrayal

"Fuck you, you self righteous bit-"

BANG!

The injured man was shot in the face, making a hole through his eye. A man then comes out of the shadows, holding a pistol, still pointing it towards the lifeless body.

"Man, you annoy me. Too bad you're dead now." This man here is the world's number one hitman, Caldwin Reiper, also known for his nickname, The Killer of Killers.

He then puts his gun back to his pocket and took out a flip phone from his other pocket. He dialed a number only hitmen can access to.

"It's done. You won't hear from him again." Caldwin said on the phone, expecting an answer to his handler.

"Excellent job, agent. The money will be delivered to your account." The Female voice of his handler made him sigh in relief because this was the last job for the day. "And one more thing, the boss wants to see you."

"Why's that? Is it something serious?"

"I don't know, but he asked for you personally. Maybe you're getting a promotion that is higher than being a top assassin." The handler joked, making Caldwin chuckle a little.

"Keep dreaming yourself that." He said before an anxious feel came to his body. "Hey, did you found them? Lucas and his team?"

"No. We have never heard of them since then." The handler had a scared tone on her voice before asking Caldwin again. "Caldwin...."

"Hm?"

"What is happening within the agency? Some of our comrades have disappeared since... Grey died in a mission."

Grey was Caldwin's closest friend since his rookie days, hearing that he died made him cold and isolating himself from everyone except some people.

"Hey, don't worry about it. I'm still here don't I? Look, get some rest. Maybe get a beer or something? That'll calm your nerves."

"Yes... you're right. Maybe I'm just out of touch." The handler felt relieved.

"Hey, uh I gotta go. The boss is gonna rip my head off if I don't come sooner." Caldwin said to her.

"Yeah, see you."

"You too."

The call finally ended after he closed the phone. He felt bad for her, being the handler of the world's top hitman, he never really liked title. It was just another empty title to him, he was human and he knows he isn't gonna last for a long time, everyone can bleed and die.

He was not like the usual hitman. In a sense, he always upholded justice for those who are wronged. And he never expected to go to heaven either.

"Now... what does the boss want of me?"

—Trinity Headquarters - Night—

The headquarters was well hidden from the world. It was a massive one at best, even blending in with its surroundings was surprisingly impressive.

Caldwin was walking through its hallways. It was massive on the outside and it was also massive on the inside. He then noticed that it was quiet... too quiet. Nobody was even here.

"Where is everyone." He continued to walk towards the elevator, expecting that there's gonna some agents on the top floor, where the main office of the boss.

After he boarded the elevator, the door opens and he was met with the same silence back on the first floor, there's nobody in the whole building. It was weird enough for him.

In this floor, only the top 10 ranked assassins were allowed in here and that includes his late friend, Grey.

He then made a final turn to the right and the door to the main office was in front of him from a distance. It was big door like you most see in cartoon movies when they portray a boss.

"Here goes nothing." He opened the door, making a slight noise of the rotation and making the boss notice him.

The boss finally saw who it is and greets Caldwin like he was his son or something.

"Oh Caldwin! Come in, come in!" This was Troy Carrigan, the head leader of the Trinity Circle. Rumors say that he was also the one who killed Joseph Stalin during his early days as a recruit.

"Boss, where is everyone?" Caldwin said while he sat down on the chair.

"Oh, I sent them to a one day off."

"Really? That is kind of weird to say the least."

Troy then adjusts his collar while he nervously laughs. "Is that what you think? Ok, ahem let's go to the main part of why I called you here tonight."

Caldwin raised his eyebrow. "Well, what is it?"

The boss then put his hands together, sweat then poured down from his head as he gazed at Caldwin with a serious look. The assassin felt unsure about the situation he was gonna be put through in.

"We found the culprit of the recent disappearance of our agents. It seems that your close friend, Grey was also a victim by this culprit."

Those words made Caldwin take the situation seriously as the name of his friend was mentioned. But he can't stop to notice the hitched breathing of the boss and the sweating. It felt that something's wrong is going to happen.

"Do you know the name?" He asked.

"No, but we identified his current location in the last 24 hours. The bastard was hard to spot but we have our ways." Troy then put up a hologram of a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. "He's located at this warehouse in Nova Scotia. I have sent other agents at this location... but they never turned up or returned."

Caldwin studied the layout of the warehouse, trying to find some advantages to its surroundings before looking back to the Boss. But he can't shake off the bad feeling.

"So, send me in. I am your top agent after all."

"Ha! That's what I always like about you, always head on. Just like your brother, Tobias."

Yes, his older brother, Tobias. He was the former top agent in the agency. And he wanted to follow his brother's footsteps, and maybe to be better than him eventually.

"Thank you, sir. No one has ever compared me to my brother." Caldwin kept a calm composure but he still can't shake off the bad feeling.

"Alright, go on now! I promise you, you'll be doing me and your fallen comrades a big favor."

"Thank you, sir. I won't fail you." He said before walking off towards the door.

"I trust you'll return with good news. You always do."

That line made Caldwin shiver as he sensed a hint of malice in that comment. Perhaps he was right on the bad feeling. He should take some precautions before beginning this mission.

As soon as he was now outside the building, Caldwin then pulls out his flip phone and decided to call his handler.

She immediately picked up, eager to hear what he will say.

"So, is it good news?" She said to him.

"Not really. The boss wants send me on a mission requested by himself. Apparently they found the culprit isolated in a warehouse somewhere in Nova Scotia."

"Is it really? Alright then, I'll prepa-"

"No, I don't want you involved in this. I am not possibly sure if the culprit is even real. I have a bad feeling about this." He looked around to make sure that there's no one listening.

"But what about you? I have to make sure you make it out of there alive."

"Don't worry about me, so lay low for a while, and keep a low profile from anyone else including the agency." He told her as rain started to pour above him.

"Why?"

"Just trust me on this." He knew that her and Grey were in a relationship. And he doesn't want to lose more people in this mess.

"I-sigh Okay, I'll lay low for a while."

"Alright, if I die or you won't hear from me again, go to this location. I'll send it to you."

His handler waited for the mail to come until a ping notification arrived on her computer.

"Ok, I got it."

"And be careful. I gotta go now." He immediately ended the call to avoid detection. He never really did something like that but he'll at least honor Grey's memory.

—Nova Scotia, Middle of nowhere - Night—

Caldwin was observing the warehouse with a binoculars on a nearby tree. He never expected that he's going to do this.

There was no one guarding it, so it was gonna be a piece of cake for him... for now at least. There was a high probability that the target is on the move or is just laying low.

"Here goes nothing, I guess."

He then dropped down from the tree and pulls out his silenced 1911 and cocks it. He ran towards the target location in a speed that is more faster than the average human. An incoming storm is then seen in the distance as thunder rumbled in the skies.

As he arrived at the target location, bunch of wrecked and destroyed of old cars and buildings are scattered everywhere. So he presumed that this was an old village that got destroyed for an unknown reason.

Caldwin then slowly approached the warehouse, the location where the culprit is staying.

"Come out... if you're even real." He whispered as his suspicions kept messing with his head.

He slowly crept up by the steel door. And as he move his head close to the door, a sudden sense of danger came to him as his eyes widened.

"Shit!" He then jumped away before the whole warehouse exploded into a burning inferno, and the shockwave knocking him out for a short time.

As the fire spreads into the surroundings, thunder then rumbled as lightning strikes a nearby tree. Rain then started to pour on Caldwin as he opened his eyes weakly.

As he got up, the fire then surrounded him completely.

"Looks like I was right. There was no culprit. Tch." He grunts as he noticed that a shrapnel penetrated his lower abdomen.

That bastard of a boss had completely sent him to a set up. As he wiped the blood off of his forehead, multiple figures then came out of the fire, and were holding high end weapons.

He noticed them pointing weapons at him and he smirked.

"Let me guess, the agency sent you all?"

All of the hitmen then stopped pointing their weapons at him. One agent then took of his mask and it was revealed to be one of the rookies. All of them were rookies.

He couldn't believe it, why would that bastard send these young rookies to their death?

"You don't have to do this." Caldwin pleaded as he doesn't want to kill these boys.

They had a moment of silence as the sound of raindrops hit the ground. The rookie agent then spoke up.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Reiper. Don't take this personally as we are just following orders."

So he had no choice then. It was another situation of either to kill or be killed. Caldwin then dropped his gun to the ground. If they want to kill him, they better do it with a sense of honor.

"Before we start, how about dying with a little dignity?"

Those words hit hard on the assassins, then they all nodded at each other to show the legendary hitman respect. All of them then dropped their guns too and pulled out their knives.

Caldwin grinned as he also pulled out his own knife.

"Well? Let's begin." He said before going into a stance. All of the assassins then readied themselves for a battle with the figure they admire and follow.

Caldwin breathed deeply before tensing all of his muscles and finally charging towards them. All of the assassins then do the same, and now the battle begins.

Caldwin then jumped into the air while clutching his knife. He then drives a kick into the first agent's head, launching the rookie back. A second one then tries to slash him but he parries the blade and stabs into the head of the assassin, making blood gush out.

"Come on!" Caldwin then switched into a boxer stance and started to mix his slashes with typical boxing moves. One assassin tries to block his attacks but he maintains a continuous flow of slashing and slicing, making the assassin break its own defence, making Caldwin strike the neck of the assassin and blood spilled all over.

"Surround him!" They then began to surround him in a circle, hoping this would overwhelm Caldwin.

Caldwin then grinned as he also noticed it. Maybe it was time to bring out the big moves.

"So they're surrounding me, huh?" Caldwin said before putting his knife back.

Caldwin then prepared a stance, making his hands form a tiger claw, and leans his entire body forward. He let out a controlled breath while steaming smoke came out of his mouth.

"Attack!"

One assassin then charges forward, ignoring all of his comrades. But before the assassin could comprehend the situation, he then felt his neck snapping in half.

CRACK!

The assassin's eyes rolled back as Caldwin held the head, making the assassin lean back on force. He held the assassin's head with both of his hands as he let out a other breath.

All of the other agents were in shook as they witness one of Caldwin's deadliest moves.

THE TIGER'S GRASPING CLAW.

But this did not make them back out, instead they attack Caldwin at the same time. They charged with fierce war cries while Caldwin prepared another stance.

Before they could touch him, they then felt all of their ligaments turn into fragile objects as they are all hit by Caldwin in blinding speeds.

They all fell down with their body broken, like a broken stick.

The number one hitman gasped in air as he never managed to neutralize that many targets before.

They all felt Caldwin's immense aura as they saw the horrific fates their fellow agents ended up with.

The battle continued to rage on, blood everywhere, body parts scattered and dismembered, and screams were heard. Caldwin managed to kill 134 Trinity agents while injured in the process. He looked down on his hands as the blood of these young boys were on him.

A yelp then startled him, making him turn around immediately. Only to see a frightened young agent.

The boy reminded him of his he was like this when he was just a rookie. He looked at the terrified eyes of the rookie and refrained himself.

"You can still walk away from this. There's nothing to be ashamed about it." Caldwin gazes at the young boy with a sympathetic look, making the young assassin less afraid.

When all things were about to go smoothly, a knife then stabs Caldwin in the back unexpectedly. He looked at the assassin that stabbed him with a shocked face.

"I'm sorry." The assassin said before other assassins ran their knives onto Caldwin.

Blood gushed out as every stab, making Caldwin grunt in pain. He could feel the pain of every stab was made onto him.

He then kneeled as the blood loss made his legs weak in the process. He spits out blood on the ground and looked up to see the last assassin holding a knife.

Caldwin then smiled and said.

"Come on, end it."

As the words were spoken, the assassin then stabbed Caldwin right through chest, piercing the heart.

After the final blow, Caldwin finally drops onto the ground. As he lay there, lives started to flash before his eyes as he get to see all the happy memories he had.

He laid there as rain hit his face. I guess this is the end of the line.

"So.... This is death, huh?"

Caldwin's eyes then finally shuts as he uttered his final words, while rain calmed the fire inside him.
