Chapter 23 - War Is Coming

"And that's that". Eden said dryly as he sat on the ruined ground. Catching his breathe. As he rummaged through his sub space.

He might not want to admit it but he really exerted himself during the battle.

"[ Finally. Thought one of you would turn up fatally wounded but I guess not.

Elyon remarked on the side. Seemingly in awe.

"What a monster for pushing you this far. I knew this universe was crazy. But this?]". He stated.

"As it should be. Anything else would have been to weak to be of any help to me," Eden replied. " I need more training, More Exp." He remarked. As he pulled out some potions from his sub-space and gulped them.

[Your progress is remarkable as it is Eden. Don't overdo it ]. Elyon retorted.

" I almost lost Elyon. He said as he brought up Atticus's status screen.

[ "Key word being almost" ]. [ "Wait what is that age. He's huge for an eighteen year old child no?. And Holy shit. You defeated this freak of nature?!!!" ]. Elyon exclaimed clearly in disbelief.

"First of all he was in his war state hence the size and all that markings. Secondly defeated?, Just barely. He almost had me.

I need to catch up Elyon, if not surpass them. To be able to react when the time is right. He added as he closed the panel.

[ "And you will Eden. Just don't die in the process. I'll be in a lot of trouble if you do " ].

' ––— '

"Sure. Whatever you say". He replied. Sighing heavily as he leaned back a bit. Now gazing at the sky.

[ "What now?" ]. Elyon asked.

" Now we wait. When he wakes up we go towards the Thorek region. Eden replied.

[ "Time to piss of some Druids huh?"]. Elyon asked jokingly. But he was only met with silence. ["That was a joke and the fact that you didn't deny it scares me"].

" I won't anger anyone Elyon. If things go well I wouldn't waste time there. Just in and out". He replied with a casual shrug.

[ "Haaa… if you say so". ]

"Yeah yeah. Now go pester someone else. I need some sleep". Eden added dryly. As he lay down. Arms crossed above his head.

[ " Such a brat "]. Elyon murmured for quite a bit, clearly displeased at being reduced to a house hold pest.

Eden drifted off to sleep. As silence returned to the battlefield.

A forest teeming with wildlife and greenery had gone unnaturally quiet, the kind of silence that follows violence rather than peace.

Broken trunks and scorched leaves marked the battlefield, sap and blood mixing into a dark, sticky sheen across the roots. At the center of it all, piled like a grotesque throne, lay the bodies of the monsters—twisted antlers, split scales, shattered fangs—each one a testament to the struggle that had just ended. Adrian sat atop them, unmoving, his boots soaked red. His weapon; a pristine white spear. Covered with blood, rested loosely on his lap.

Blood dripped steadily from his clothes, not all of it his. It traced slow lines down the carcasses beneath him, pattering softly onto the forest floor. His chest rose and fell in controlled breaths, steam curling faintly into the cool air.

Scratches and cuts covered him, some shallow, some deep enough to sting with every heartbeat, but his expression was distant—eyes unfocused, staring through the trees rather than at them. The adrenaline had faded, leaving only exhaustion and the weight of memory.

He thought about the fight. Meditated; not on the blows, but the moments between them. The mistakes that nearly cost him, the next steps towards improving and the fulfillment of growth.

Somewhere above, a crow finally dared to cry out, and he exhaled slowly, as if that single sound tethered him back to the world. Sitting on his throne of fallen beasts, surrounded by blood and broken leaves, he wondered how long before he could return home.

" Home huh ". He muttered to himself. Never would he have imagined missing that place. "Well at this point, any place will do. I miss my bed". He said with a sigh.

Whilst in the middle of his soliloquy he was interrupted by the forming of a spatial gate. Swirling with brilliant golden light.

His fingers twitched as he tensed up. Slowly reaching for his spear as he observed the portal with a narrowed gaze.

A familiar good looking white haired man casually stepped out of the portal. He was dressed in a white three piece suit with a red cape.

At the sight of the man a wide grin broke out on Adrian's face. "Good to see you again Father. Oh how much I've missed you". He said teasingly.

"Haaa….it's only been a few months Adrian, no need to be overly dramatic. Altáir replied. Sighing exasperatedly.

Adrian got up from the heap of dead monsters and slowly made his way towards his father.

"A few months?, Felt more like years. Well can we go home now?". I've accomplished what I wanted". He remarked lazily.

"Eminent already?, Impressive. That means you'll be strong enough to handle what's to come". The white haired man muttered casually.

"Huh?…What do you mean old man". Adrian asked. The cryptic words of his father made him confused.

"I'll explain on the way, Let's go. It's time they all come back. War is coming". He stated in a tone as cold as ice.
