Chapter 25 - Furina is Only a Human

Paimon refuted on Lumine's behalf:

"Firstly, you might just be another type of long-lived being. There are plenty of ways to extend one's lifespan—like curses..."

[Ningguang: A valid deduction. Many species on Teyvat naturally live for a very long time. But what kind of curse could grant a human extended life?]

[Dainsleif: I was once a human of Khaenri'ah. The curse of immortality has eroded me, and I have wandered Teyvat for 500 years.]

[Ningguang: So curses can grant unnaturally long life. Does that mean... Furina really is a human burdened with a curse?]

[Furina: No, I'm not. How could I possibly be human?]

[Video Compilation System: Miss Furina, I am a force from beyond this world. Nothing here can be perceived by the Heavenly Principles. Memories here will not remain in the Irminsul. The past, present, and the future of Teyvat are already fixed. Here, you may set aside your disguise.]

[Paimon: Wait—doesn't this mean we now have solid proof that Furina isn't the Hydro Archon?]

[Ningguang: Without a doubt. Furina is a human pretending to be a god.]

[The Knave: I don't understand—why would Furina pretend to be a god?]

[Furina: Video Compilation System... that's your name, right? I want to ask... Fontaine... was it saved?]

[Video Compilation System: The answer is ahead. You may see it yourself.]

Video

Furina spread open her hands and countered:

"Who told you that? The Harbinger from the Fatui? To slander me, you'd even quote a Fatui Harbinger?"

Lumine remained firm:

"It doesn't matter who said it. What matters is the truth."

Neuvillette fell into thought.

"A curse? I originally assumed the aura surrounding a god was similar to a curse... But now it seems it has nothing to do with divinity—merely a curse?"

Neuvillette's words supported Lumine's deduction.

After all, he had only ever truly known one god.

Lumine looked at Furina. "So, Furina... you're just a human who has been cursed, aren't you?"

The audience was shocked again.

"Lady Furina is actually just a human?"

"True, you really can't tell humans and gods apart just from looking."

[Charlotte: What a brilliant attack! Miss Furina is completely on the back foot now.]

[Lumine: I didn't expect my future self to be this... aggressive.]

[Paimon: Same here...]

[Arataki Itto: Fontainian trials are awesome! Way more fun than beetle fights!]

[Furina: Arataki Itto, is it? You've mocked me repeatedly. When you come to Fontaine, I'll send you straight to the courtroom.]

[Arataki Itto: Sure! I'll fight you head-on then!]

[Lyney: The courtroom isn't a playground. Those judged end up in the Fortress of Meropide. The prison life isn't bad, though. I welcome your arrival.]

[Arataki Itto: P–prison?! Then maybe I won't go…]

The Oratrice began leaning in Lumine's favor again, partially confirming her suspicions.

Furina said, "Fine, don't celebrate too soon. Even if I admit I am cursed, that doesn't mean I must be human."

"Besides, the difference between gods and humans lies in authority. A god can accomplish things humans cannot—that is why they are called gods."

"For hundreds of years, countless miracles have appeared across Fontaine—including the Oratrice before you, and the Indemnitium system everyone depends on in daily life."

Lumine thought carefully, then found an opening:

"But when the Oratrice suddenly declared Childe guilty… you didn't know what was happening, did you? You aren't the creator of the Oratrice."

[Childe: Hold on—I went to Fontaine? And I was declared guilty? Feels like I'm missing a whole chunk of the story.]

[Video Compilation System: If you want to know, I'll show you.]

The video cut off.

Footage of Childe's trial appeared.

With Lumine's help, he had been judged innocent—yet the Oratrice still declared him guilty.

Furina didn't know why.

She tried to slip away.

Childe unleashed his Foul Legacy transformation—and Neuvillette instantly one-shot him.

[Arataki Itto: He got one-shot?! That transformation looks so cool, but it's so weak?!]

[Sigewinne: Lord Neuvillette is amazing!]

[Lyney: His power is unfathomable.]

[Childe: … Well… losing to the Hydro Sovereign isn't shameful.]

[The Knave: Not shameful…]

[La Signora: Not shameful…]

[Childe: No seriously! Stop focusing on me—isn't this about Furina?!]

[Neuvillette: Indeed, the footage clearly shows Furina didn't understand the Oratrice's abnormal behavior.]

[Childe: Yes yes, pay attention to her!]

[Lumine: By the way, you actually look pretty cool lying on the floor like that.]

[Childe: ...]

[Video Compilation System: Continuing the playback of "The Dance of the Sinner."]

In the video:

Furina immediately argued, "About that, I already said:

A god's judgment is beyond mortal understanding. There is no need for explanations."

Neuvillette interrupted her:

"No, Miss Furina. I must remind you to recognize the current situation. In the Court of Fontaine, the trial itself is above all else. Before being a god, you are today's defendant. If you do not truthfully state what you know, the situation will turn extremely unfavorable for you."

Furina grew angry:

"You dare pressure me with such words?!"

Neuvillette replied calmly:

"This is no pressure, Miss Furina. Everyone must respect the rules of the court."

Lumine and Paimon pressed the attack:

"At the time, you had no idea why Childe was declared guilty."

"You also didn't understand the structure or principles of the Oratrice."

"The so-called 'miracles' you mention… should belong to the real Hydro Archon."

Furina immediately snapped back:

"The real Hydro Archon? What is that supposed to mean? I truly didn't know what happened with Childe. The Oratrice made that judgment on its own, as it always has since its creation."

"You can't just say 'The god's creation malfunctioned — therefore the god is fake'!"

Paimon crossed her arms angrily:

"Still trying to argue! Looks like she's convinced we can't prove the Oratrice isn't hers…"

Lumine looked straight at Furina:

"Forget the so-called miracles. Can you show divine power right now?"

Furina: "Divine power? With so many citizens watching, I shouldn't recklessly unleash the power granted by a god."

Neuvillette cut in instantly:

"If needed, I can extend a protective blessing over the audience."

Furina hesitated, flustered:

"N–No… no need for that…"

Lumine delivered the finishing blow:

"You only need to show a little Hydro elemental ability. Even a Vision-holder can do that."

Furina froze completely, unable to answer.
