"Isn't that me!"
Jason Martinez's face turned dark, and he shouted.
"Me?" The others were startled for a moment. After a closer look, they all recognized me, "It really is me!"
Then they showed some disdain and contempt.
This Charlie Thompson was just a poor kid from a mountain village, not in the same league as these city folks, and was always looked down upon by them.
His grades were decent, but in his sophomore year, he got expelled for fighting. He must be doing pretty badly now!
And they knew about the fight; it was because of Tiffany Wilson that Charlie got into a fight with Jason Martinez.
They turned their heads, glanced at Jason Martinez and Tiffany Wilson, then looked back at me with some mockery in their eyes.
In their view, this Charlie Thompson was an idiot, a mere poor kid daring to compete with the principal's son over a girl, even ruining his own future.
"Jason, what a coincidence!"
