~TESSA'S POV~
The words hit like a wave, and for a second, my breath caught, I hadn't meant to let it slip. My stomach turned cold. "I… it doesn't matter."
"Tessa," he said sharply, stepping closer. "When?"
"Earlier today. Before you barged in and told me to get dressed. I didn't answer. I hid it."
He exhaled harshly, dragging a hand through his hair, his wolf seeming to shake off the alcohol. "And you're only telling me now?"
I braced myself. "Because I knew this would be your reaction."
He scoffed, almost laughing, but there was no humor. "What reaction do you expect when my wife is still entertaining calls from her ex?"
I bit down the word wife. It didn't feel real when he said it, yet it bound me like chains. "I didn't answer," I said firmly. "That should tell you something."
His eyes locked on mine. "That you're still tempted."
I faltered. The silence dragged, heavy with truth I couldn't say. My heart was a battlefield between past and present.
