I ignored the first knock and continued staring at the message displayed on my phone screen but then it came again, louder this time. I locked my phone immediately and sat up, my heart pounding.
"Could you just leave me alone!" I muttered as I approached the door.
I was ready to lash out at Olivia if she doesn't want to respect herself. Wasn't the parlour enough for her?
The moment I opened the door, my jaw fell open.

He stepped in swiftly as I tried to shut the door on him. I definitely was in the mood for another episode of drama. But he didn't look angry and that somehow made it worse.
His gaze swept the room once before landing on me. "Why did you slap Olivia?"
I thought as much, the king is back, definitely the mistress would report straight to it. But I felt a sharp pang on my chest as he went straight to that question.
I tilted my head. "Good evening to you too."
"Tessa." His tone sharpened. "Answer the question."
