For just a moment, I could have sworn I spotted Augusto in the sea of faces.
My pulse quickened as I whipped my head around, desperately searching through the packed auditorium. Nothing. No sign of his familiar silhouette anywhere in the crowd. My mind must be playing tricks on me, guilt making me see things that weren't there.
Augusto was hundreds of miles away in Bridgeton on business. He couldn't possibly be here tonight.
