Jenifer's POV
My words slammed into Reed like a physical blow, jolting him from whatever trance he'd been in.
A long silence stretched on, and when he finally spoke, his voice had lost its aggressive edge.
After collecting himself, Reed's voice came through the phone. "I'm sorry. I let my emotions get the better of me."
I wasn't about to let him off that easy. My voice turned razor-sharp as I fired back, "Reed, you lose control and start pointing fingers at me? What's your next move? Get even more furious and decide to come murder me?"
Silence stretched between us.
He understood he'd crossed a line. I was livid, and regardless of how brutal my words became, he simply absorbed them.
But I could sense Reed's internal struggle.
His voice dropped to almost a whisper, practically begging, "Jenifer, could you please reconsider pressing charges against my mother?"
