Romano, that small boy who couldn't even reach the counter, had actually hurt himself trying to cook for Lorelei. All that devotion, all that tender care—for her.
Yet when I had asked him for something as simple as water, he wouldn't budge. The day I lost our baby, he'd thrown harsh words at my face. Was he truly my son... or hers?
A bitter smile twisted my lips.
Why bother? The child bore Reed's surname, his bloodline, his temperament. Perhaps it was inevitable he'd become this way. Since Reed himself felt nothing for me, why should I keep tearing myself apart over such a boy?
Lorelei's voice turned cutting once more. "Oh, and Reed already found out about you and that man. That's exactly why he landed in the police station today—your lover attacked him. So tell me, Jenifer... seeing two men fight over you—didn't that thrill you?"
