Chapter 1 - 1

"I believe that the arcanists are paying much more attention to this news than the Holm Crown prize on Monday. Ever since Mr. President's light speed experiment strongly questioned the existence of 'Ether', the Wave – Particle debate broke out again and was pushed to a new peak by Mr. Evans's light quantum hypothesis. It has been three years, and the debate still hasn't been settled. It has become the third Wave – Particle War in the history of magic. "

"Looking back at the previous two 'wars', the wave theory led by Mr. Brook had almost completely defeated the particle theory, and the last diehards could only comfort themselves that the existence of 'Ether' had not been proved yet. However, the particle theory suddenly launched a new round of attack on the wave theory with the help of the light speed experiment and the light quantum hypothesis. The light speed experiment and the photoelectric effect have become a huge mountain in the heart of every wave theory supporter, but they have never been able to find a self-justifying theory to explain the two phenomena."

Lark's brief introduction outlined the outline of the Wave – Particle War, which made the young sorcerer Blake's blood boil. He clenched his fists, trying to knock down the few diehards. At the same time, he vaguely heard the other sorcerers in the branch cursing loudly through the open window. Without a doubt, there were no supporters of the particle theory here.

"After three years of preparation, the Wave – Particle War seems to have come to a stage where the outcome can be decided. Mr. Brook and Mr. Lauren have both completed the improvement of the magic circles, and now they have the foundation to conduct the accurate photoelectric effect experiment. If the experiment data and images can prove that the light quantum hypothesis is wrong, then the particle theory will go back to the half-dead state where it used to be, relying on the light speed experiment to survive."

"This will be a historic event for the Congress, an event that will mark the future direction and the truth of the world. Therefore, we've invited a few arcanists here and asked them for their opinions. We'll see what the Congress thinks about this event." Lark's crisp but passionate voice seemed to be able to drill into everyone's heart, "Hello, everyone. I'm Lark, the anchor of Allyn's Last Week's News Review."

"Nice to meet you, Miss Lark. You're as beautiful as your voice." A clear male voice answered. Instead of nervousness, it seemed that there was joy and excitement in it.

The other male arcanists flinched and greeted him stiffly.

"Nice to meet you, Miss Lark. I really enjoyed your 'Allyn's Last Week News Review'. You're even more beautiful than we thought." A female arcanist replied on behalf of her companions.

Lark laughed and said, "Thank you for your love. Today, I invited everyone here to ask about something. What do you think of Mr. Brook and Mr. Roland's upcoming precision light quantum experiment? "

"Well, this is something that we have been waiting for for a long time. Ever since Mr. Evans proposed the light quantum hypothesis, we have been waiting, waiting for someone to prove that this hypothesis is wrong. We haven't reached the senior-rank yet, and we're still exploring how to improve the magic circles. Therefore, we can only wait. Three years have passed, and the day has finally come when we can refute this ridiculous hypothesis. I believe that Mr. Brook and Mr. Lauren will be able to provide convincing results. "The man's voice was clear, and he seemed to be quite eloquent.

"I'm glad to see that Mr. Brook and the others have completed the improvement of the magic circles. I've had enough of those particle theory guys."

"The experiment results will prove that the wave theory is correct."

The other male arcanists also answered one by one.

"Although I personally admire Mr. Evans and his many achievements in arcana, the fact that he won the highest honors in four different fields before he became a senior-rank, and the fact that he became a senior-rank sorcerer before he reached the senior-rank, I don't think that the light quantum hypothesis is correct. Mr. Evans can also make mistakes. Well, he's more like a real person, and he's more approachable …" The woman's voice seemed to want to continue, but she was interrupted by her companions.

Hearing the answer, Lark was a bit confused, but then she said with a smile, "It seems that no one believes that the experiment results are in favor of the light quantum hypothesis. Is the wave theory really so unshakable? It's been three years, and there is still no other theory that can explain the photoelectric effect. All the imprecise experiments during this period perfectly fit Mr. Evans's light quantum hypothesis. Even one of his predictions has been proved. Are you really so sure that the experiment results will prove that the light quantum hypothesis is wrong? "

"Yes."

"Of course."

"Without a doubt."

The ten or so arcanists who were interviewed all answered affirmatively, but their voices seemed to be weaker and less confident than before.

Blake's tightly clenched fists loosened. Every time he was agitated, his deep blue eyes were calm, revealing deep doubts and lack of confidence. Yes, it had been three whole years, and there was still no other theory that could explain the photoelectric effect. All the experimental results proved that the light quantum hypothesis was correct. At the same time, several theories that tried to explain the speed of light experiment were all falsified. The existence of ether was in danger.

Was the wave theory always correct? Could the experiment results prove that the light quantum hypothesis was false?

With a sizzling sound, a hand with wrinkled skin pressed on the button and turned off the alchemy radio with a slight push.

After doing all this, Barek saw that his teacher, Brook, was looking out of the window with his hands behind his back. He was looking at the twisted magnetic field and jumping electric arcs in his kingdom of electromagnetism. Barek took a deep breath carefully and asked, "Mr. Brook, have you heard the Allyn News Review?"

"Yes, it's a very good program. Evans can make amazing achievements in any field." Brook, who was wearing a wig, nodded slightly, like an elegant and conservative old gentleman. "But sometimes I'm not used to his humor and the words he created."

"No matter in Allyn, Renstadt, Cocus, or the Solar Islands, more and more young sorcerers are using the new words created by Evans. It seems to be a trend, and those who don't use them are considered backward and conservative. " Barek said with a faint smile, and then his face became serious. He hesitated and said, "Mr. Brook, you must have heard the interview hosted by Lark, right?"

"Huh?" Brook turned around and looked at him.

Barek gathered his courage and said, "I'm a little worried about the experiment results …"

"Get to the point." Brook said calmly. He didn't like to beat around the bush when it came to arcana.

Barek closed his mouth and said, "I've done a few experiments before, and the results are all biased towards the light quantum hypothesis, which seems to be the only one that can explain the photoelectric effect. I'm afraid that the results of the precise experiments will not be good for the wave theory … Mr. Brook, please don't be too firm before you start the experiment. The wave theory is not a dead end. We still have the diffraction image and the whole set of theories …"

Brook stared at Barek with his deep green eyes behind his gold-rimmed glasses. After a while, when Barek started sweating, Brook turned his eyes away and looked out of the window. It was as if Brook could see Allyn in the main material world through the demiplane and the dark night of early spring. Brook sighed in a low voice, "You're right.

"It's going to rain …"

… …

In the headquarter of Allyn, the thirty-first floor was reserved for the Sky Radio Station.

It was midnight, and 'Arcana Voice' had ended earlier than 'News of the World'. Therefore, the entire floor was empty. Nobody was walking in the corridor. Their footsteps echoed in the corridor. It was cold and lonely.

After tidying up her belongings and taking a bottle of medicine to protect her throat, Samantha, the Lark, walked out of the lounge briskly, ready to return home.

As soon as she walked out of the door, she saw Lucien, who was wearing a black double-breasted suit, greeting the other arcanists in "News of the World" and consoling them for their hard work. She kept a serious and indifferent face and asked curiously in a clear voice, "Evans, why are you still in the magic tower at this time?"

It was late at night … Ever since the two channels got on the right track, Lucien had never come here at night. What happened today? Was it because of Mr. Brook's and Mr. Lauren's experiments?

"I was doing some experiments in the Atom Institution. It just came to an end. I remembered that you were still here, so I came to check it out." Lucien said briefly.

"Experiments? Experiments on the precise photoelectric effect? "Samantha was even more curious.

"No." Lucien shook his head. "No. My teacher gave me some inspiration when he bombarded the gold foil with helium atoms. I'm bombarding some gases with them to see what I can find. Well, I'm also doing experiments on bombarding metal surfaces with electrons."

"So frank? Aren't you afraid that I'll steal it from you? "Samantha raised her eyebrow.

Lucien smiled. "It's a difficult experiment. I have to sit there and watch the flashing light spots. I never know when I'll find something."

"Why do I feel that you've already found something? You're not afraid that I'll steal it from you." Samantha put on a smile.

Lucien shook his head and smiled. "There's nothing I can do if you don't believe me. Well, the show is very successful. You and Louise have both become the dream lovers of the young arcanists. However, it's not good for your mind to stay up all the time."

"I'm an astrologer. I'm used to watching the stars at midnight. Also, I can play it again in the morning after I finish the recording at night." Samantha lowered her eyes and looked at the six-ring emblem on Lucien's chest. After a brief silence, she said, "It's late. Why don't we find a place to eat something? It'll be better for us to continue the experiment. "

Lucien smiled. "That's unnecessary. I'm going to the Atom Institution very soon. After my magic tower is built, I'll invite you to the party as a way of thanking you for your help. "

After chatting for a while, Lucien turned around and disappeared around the corner. Samantha heaved a sigh.

After returning to the Atom Institution, Lucien walked into the laboratory and sat next to the alchemy observer. Then, he turned on the magic circle and continued the experiment just now while recording the data.

On the messy experiment table in Lucien's right hand, a stack of paper was thrown to a corner randomly. Half of the paper was buried under the debris. The following words could be vaguely seen:

"… These are the precise data and images of the photoelectric effect."
