Chapter 3 - 3

Hearing the thunder, Lucien raised his head and looked out of the window. In the dim light, it was drizzling. Without him noticing, it was already early morning.

Turning off the magic circles and alchemy devices, Lucien picked up the white porcelain teacup and walked to the window. Without the protection of the magic circles, he pushed open the window. The fresh and humid air blew into his face. It was spring, making him feel refreshed and energetic. It was another beautiful day.

Thinking of the theoretical system of the new alchemy, which was almost a collection of more than a dozen papers, and the introduction of the quantum concept into the internal structure of atoms, Lucien took a deep breath of the fresh and delicious air and murmured to himself in a self-mocking way, "Alchemy …

"The era of the Big Bang is coming."

The field that was about to begin would be more bizarre and unimaginable than any subversive arcana history in the past. The question brought by the "cat" was no different from a brainstorm.

In the Kingdom of Electromagnetism, pieces of magnets collapsed and were destroyed. The electric currents suddenly disappeared, and the arcs of light turned into electric snakes that filled the sky. Together with the huge lightning that destroyed everything, they struck the ground and the magic tower, breaking through the layers of transparent defense that the magic tower had spread out.

"Is it going to be destroyed? Sir … "Barek looked out of the window and saw that the sky was shaking violently. There were already many black cracks around him.

Suddenly, the electric currents around him gathered and turned into a huge electric snake. It circled around the magic tower, opened its mouth, and absorbed the huge lightning strikes. Its body expanded to the limit.

The electric snake exploded, like silver fireworks blooming in the sky. Invisible electromagnetic waves, visible to the naked eye and invisible to the naked eye, filled the entire demiplane and protruded out, like the ebb and flow of the tide.

The waves were densely broken in the middle, and they seemed to have become countless small segments. However, the overall shape of the waves was still the same.

Before Barek could react, the strange scene disappeared as if it was real and stopped abruptly.

Everything was back to normal. The Kingdom of Electromagnetism was stabilized, but it was full of broken air. The electric currents that could flow and the magnetic field that still existed were less than ten percent of what they used to be. In some places, there were even terrifying black holes.

What followed was a long sigh.

"Teacher …" Barek blurted out again. He knew very well that a legendary sorcerer's demiplane was the external projection of their cognitive world. Now that the demiplane had become like this, it was not hard to imagine what his teacher's cognitive world was like.

Still wearing his wig and gold-rimmed glasses, Brook walked down the stairs. His face was abnormally dark red. He shook his head and said, "I still can't incorporate the light quantum hypothesis into the wave system …"

"Are the results of the experiment …" Barek asked subconsciously.

Brook said gloomily, "Although I was mentally prepared, I still found it hard to accept when I saw that all the experiment results fit the light quantum hypothesis perfectly. So, my cognitive world was shaken. Later, I tried to understand the hypothesis and combine it with the wave theory to reconstruct my cognitive world, but I failed to find a breakthrough."

Barek was already an old man, but he was still worried. "What about your cognitive world, sir?"

"It's broken and solidified." Brook pinched his forehead, revealing an aura of vicissitudes.

Barek had expected this, but he still couldn't believe it. He was even more shocked than Brook himself. "Does this mean that you will never be able to make any progress?"

"Yes." Brook, on the other hand, was quite calm. He shook his head in self-mockery, "It's all thanks to the limitation of the experiment conditions and the search for the mysterious dimension. Otherwise, if I had the ability to conduct the experiment on the spot when I first saw Evans' light quantum hypothesis three years ago, my cognitive world would've collapsed, and the Kingdom of Electromagnetism would've been completely destroyed. If I were in Allyn, half of the city would've been destroyed. Thankfully, with the buffer of understanding and the feedback of the experiment results, I wouldn't have been smashed into pieces."

For Brook, whose cognitive world was half-solidified and projected to create a demiplane, the collapse of his cognitive world was no longer limited to himself. It would also affect the main material world around him.

Therefore, it was not an exaggeration to say that Brook had destroyed half of Allyn, and this was based on the fact that Allyn had one of the best defense systems in the world. If it had been Renstadt or Aalto, the whole city would have been completely destroyed together with the nearby towns and manors.

"Damn you, Evans!" Although Barek knew that it had nothing to do with Lucien, he still couldn't accept it emotionally. He gnashed his teeth in anger.

Brook waved his hand. His face had turned from dark red to pale. "If the theory he proposed and insisted on was absurd, I would fight him to the end. But the experiment results have confirmed his light quantum hypothesis. This means that I am the one who is wrong, not him. I am the one who is too stubborn on the wrong path. Should we hate the fact that this world does not exist in the way we want it to?"

Even though his cognitive world was broken and solidified, Brook was still calm and collected. He was still a gentleman, and he even joked with Barek.

He was completely different from Fernando. What they had in common was the fear of the unknown and the love of arcana.

"But …" Barek's face was still full of anxiety, concern, and hatred. His teacher was fine just a few hours ago. How could he be so seriously injured and unable to make any progress?

Brook walked to the window in the living room with his hands behind his back. He snorted and said, "For me, it's both despair and hope. It's both a blow and an opportunity."

"What?" Barek didn't quite understand.

Brook stretched out his right hand and opened his five fingers. "Let's not talk about the existence of the God of Truth. Since the beginning of history, there were only four people who could reach the level of the Silver Moon Alterna from the peak of the legendary level. They were the Lord of Hell, the Will of Abyss, the mysterious existence of the World of Souls, and the pope. The first three were said to be at the same level as Alterna. They were born at this level. "

"Teacher, haven't all the popes reached this level?" Barek asked confusedly.

Brook coughed a few times and his breath was a bit weak. "For me, the popes who reached this level with the help of the God of Truth's power are just a symbol, the symbol of the God of Truth's' spokesperson on earth '. No matter how many popes there are, the most powerful thing is not the name behind the popes, but the word itself. Therefore, it can only be counted as one."

"That's true." Barek nodded.

Brook looked at the broken Kingdom of Electromagnetism outside and said gently and elegantly, "Therefore, it's extremely difficult to reach the level of 'demigod' from the peak of the legendary level. From the ancient times until now, only the popes have done it. Even geniuses like Thanos, the Sun King, and my teacher are stuck at this level. It's hard for them to find an effective way. The mission to find the mysterious existence of the World of Souls and the fragments of the Silver Moon Alterna may bring us hope, but it's more likely that we'll still be lost. "

"It's not urgent or life-threatening to stop at this level."

Barek let out a sigh of relief. Yes, even though his cognitive world was broken and solidified, his teacher was still at the peak of the legendary level. He was one of the strongest people in the world except for the three 'demigods' who rarely showed up. And even if his cognitive world was not broken, it seemed that he would not be able to reach the next level.

"Although the breaking and solidification of my cognitive world is hopeless, it's still an opportunity." Brook's voice became low. "Through this experiment, I've found a huge loophole in the wave theory. When I can figure out why electromagnetic waves can show the characteristics of both waves and particles, maybe it'll be the time for me to reconstruct my cognitive world and reach the peak of legendary."

Barek looked at Brook with respect, just like when he first became Brook's student. Brook had just suffered a great blow, but he still showed a strong sense of initiative and didn't show any signs of depression at all. Although his teacher used Mr. Thanos, the Sun King, and President Douglas as examples of genius sorcerers, in Barek's mind, and in the minds of most of the arcanists in the Congress of Magic, Brook was no less talented than them.

He built the huge Kingdom of Electromagnetism, deconstructed the ancient magic system, became a grand arcanist before the age of fifty, and reached the peak of legendary at the age of eighty. Who could surpass him?

"Sir, should we announce the result of the experiment?" Barek thought of this.

Brook nodded. "Announce it."

"But …" Barek was afraid that a large number of heads would explode.

Brook sighed. "I'm the founder of the wave theory, and I'm also one of the perfectionists. That's why my cognitive world will still be broken and solidified after three years of subtle influence. Other sorcerers will only be severely injured after three years of exposure to all kinds of information."

"But there are still some extremely stubborn ones." Barek was still hesitating.

Brook's voice became cold. "Three years later, they'll still explode their heads. Thirty years later, they'll still be stubborn. Their stubbornness has already entered their cells. The development of arcana and magic won't wait for them."

"If Lucien Evans wants to become a grand arcanist, he'll have to step on the stairs made of broken heads, milky white brains, and blood. Sometimes, this is even crueler than a real war."

It was Brook who brought about the last large-scale disruption.

"Then I'll help you organize the paper. You can write the beginning yourself." Barek's body was a bit cold.

Brook slightly nodded. "Go ahead. I'll take a break and do an experiment."

"What experiment?" Barek asked confusedly.

Brook said with a self-deprecating smile, "Since the light quantum hypothesis is consistent with the experimental results, we can temporarily treat light as a particle. And a particle should not only have energy, but also momentum. Considering the wavelength, I plan to use the newly discovered X-ray to bombard the electrons in different substances to see if I can find the phenomenon of momentum change."

"I never thought that I'd be busy proving the particle theory one day."

In Lauren's magic tower.

Manuel and the others were waiting anxiously. When it was almost dawn, an ear-piercing alarm suddenly came from the magic tower.

"Accident in the lab. Calling master. Calling master …"

"No response. No response. Entering the inspection phase …"

"No leakage of poison. No spreading of curse. No dangerous creatures. Open the door of the lab …"

The indifferent voice of the alchemical life came.

Manuel and Diana looked at each other and thought of something. They quickly rushed into the lab and passed through the open door. Then they saw a scene that they would never forget for the rest of their lives.

A headless body in a gray magic robe was lying on the ground. The floor was covered with milky white and red stains. On the wall, the lab table, the white paper, and the transparent energy shield of the magic circle, there were all kinds of stains. Broken bones could be seen from time to time.

On the chest of the dead body, there was a badge with nine black rings and nine silver stars on a silver background, as well as an Ice & Snow Medal and a Silver Moon Medal.
