Through Insk's memories, Lu Yi realized that the theft of the Darkhold had been nothing more than a coincidence.
At the time, Insk had been wandering around, looking for corrupted humans whose souls he could consume to strengthen himself.
But suddenly, he sensed an extremely evil power.
The power was immense, yet untamed. From the moment he felt it, he could almost be certain it had no master.
If the power had belonged to someone, he would never have dared to approach it—doing so would mean instant death, and he would have no chance of resisting.
But if it was ownerless, then there was nothing to fear.Demons and devils had an endless hunger for power.
So he went searching for the source of that energy, eager to claim it for himself.
Soon, he came upon two groups of ordinary humans fighting violently in an abandoned area. They held modern weapons, and the battle looked fierce.
Seeing this, he silently thanked the gods of Hell.
Unlike Lu Yi, whose senses were sharp, these mortals appeared to be fighting for their lives—but in Insk's eyes, they were nothing more than children playing war games. This was a gift from the heavens.
He quickly located the true source of the power—the Darkhold, in the hands of a hooded man dressed in black who was reading it. Without hesitation, he moved in to seize it.
The group guarding the Darkhold never even noticed the demon had returned. By the time they realized what was happening, it was already too late—the Darkhold had fallen into Insk's hands.
They desperately attempted to retake the book, especially the man who had been reading it. From his brief exposure to the Darkhold, he had discovered some of its capabilities and wanted to keep it for himself.
But reality was unforgiving.
Before they could even hide the book, they were nearly killed. At the last moment, the man who had read it dissolved into a cloud of black mist and escaped.
At first, Insk thought that was the end of it.
But he hadn't expected the real trouble to be just beginning.Coulson and Natasha, who had been pinned down by snipers, saw Insk defeat the other group and were not frightened. Instead, they took out the magical equipment Lu Yi had given them beforehand and started fighting Insk.
Their modern weapons couldn't harm Insk at all, allowing him to kill freely—but their magical equipment could. He was caught off guard, and a deep gash was carved across his chest, only recently healed.
That was when he realized that the items they carried were no ordinary tools. These two were the greatest obstacles a demon could encounter upon entering the physical world.
He didn't dare fight them too long. Using the blood of the corpses on the ground, he cleverly escaped. Afraid of being hunted by demon slayers, he changed skins again, disguising himself as an ordinary man to shake them off.
Although things had been messy, he had been worried the entire time, yet the outcome turned out surprisingly good.
During his escape, he leafed through the Book of the Dark God and gained unimaginable power—spells, abilities, and more. It made him feel invincible, his confidence swelling beyond measure.
He was a demon.Though the Darkhold was incredibly potent for mortals, to him it was only a drop in the ocean. But he learned much from it—even how to counter Lu Yi's spells. From now on, Lu Yi would no longer be able to simply banish him back to Hell.
With all these abilities, he finally felt confident enough to face Lu Yi head-on.
That was what he believed.
"You came at the perfect time. I was planning to look for you," Insk said coldly, staring at Lu Yi as though he were an insect—completely unbothered.
Lu Yi couldn't help but laugh.
It was clear Insk was the type who remembered meals but forgot beatings. As the saying went:
Once a villain gets a taste of victory, he becomes arrogant and reckless.
Insk was the perfect example.
"You're not killing me that easily," Lu Yi said, shaking his head with pity.Insk had no idea just how vast the gap between them truly was. He was a fool blinded by a sudden burst of power.
Insk didn't know Lu Yi was calling him stupid. All he knew was that Lu Yi's eyes filled him with disgust.
Those eyes reminded him of the humiliating beating he had suffered. His cold expression vanished instantly, replaced by uncontrollable fury.
That beating was the greatest shame of his life.He had bowed to a human insect.
He wanted revenge. He wanted to wash away his humiliation with Lu Yi's blood.
And now was the perfect opportunity.
"You won't know unless we try, will you?"
Insk grinned strangely, raising his empty hand and flipping it upward.
Lu Yi felt a surge of hidden magical energy beneath his feet. The floor began to ripple unnaturally.
The wooden boards beneath him rippled like water. Before he could react, it felt as if he were standing on a liquid surface—and sinking.
Lu Yi immediately caused his body to float, refusing to sink, but the floor below him remained connected to his feet.
Suspended in the air, he looked down and saw that the ground had turned into a swamp-like mire. Sticky and thick, the moment Lu Yi's feet made contact, it clung tightly.
Insk saw this too and burst out laughing.
"Haha! You're done for! You're dead! This thing is called the Death Trap! You're fine as long as you don't touch it—but once you do, you'll never escape!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the so-called Death Trap suddenly erupted. Silky liquid marble surged upward from beneath Lu Yi's feet, slowly crawling up as though trying to swallow him whole.
"See that? A Death Trap. I know you're strong, but so what? This trap was designed specifically for beings with great power. You're finished! Hahahaha—"
