Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Shadow of the Swamp

Tyrion approached Mufasa's carriage, intending to call him, but then he heard Mufasa speaking with someone else—a woman's voice.

"It seems, Ser Mufasa, you have begun to gradually build your faith in the Lord of Light!"

"I am no different than before," Mufasa said.

"Then why does the King of Hearts in the deck represent R'hllor, the Lord of Light?" she asked.

"My lady! I merely made the most reasonable pairing! A flaming heart, is it not the symbol of the Lord of Light?" Mufasa replied.

"I saw in the flames a great terror in the North, though it is temporarily held back by a long wall."

"You must establish your faith in R'hllor to draw the Lightbringer from the fire to fight the darkness," she continued.

"Is that sword in your hand? Let me see it!" Mufasa said.

Melisandre stopped speaking. The sword was not in her hand, and its forging method was very special.

Mufasa emerged from the carriage and saw Tyrion eavesdropping.

"My uncle, don't think I can't see you just because you're small!" Mufasa said with amusement.

"Hahaha, Mufasa, why do you have a woman in your carriage!"

"Melisandre, you've met her!"

At this moment, Melisandre also stepped down from the carriage. She wore a red robe, had red hair, red eyes, and a large red ruby at her throat.

Melisandre glanced at Mufasa and Tyrion, then went off to another place alone.

"Tell me, why are you bringing her along? I always feel this woman is too dangerous! Listen to me, women are poison, and the prettier they are, the more potent the poison," Tyrion said, patting Mufasa's shoulder.

"Uncle, you've said a lot, and I've also heard a saying: the prettier a woman is, the more she'll lie. You must never trust beautiful women, especially beautiful women whose origins are unknown." Mufasa also patted Tyrion's shoulder.

After hearing Mufasa's words, Tyrion pondered it carefully and realized it was true! The prettier a woman is, the more she'll lie.

Tyrion then told Mufasa that he planned to open a card room after returning to King's Landing.

"That's a good thing! It will give the people of King's Landing more entertainment. When we return to King's Landing, I'll get mahjong, pai gow, and dice for you. I learned these in Meereen," Mufasa said.

Tyrion had never been to Meereen and didn't know the situation there, so he fully believed what Mufasa said.

In the following days, Jaime also came to find Mufasa. They finally decided unanimously to use the following four people as representatives for the four Ace cards:

Ace of Clubs: Bran the Builder, who built Storm's End, Winterfell, the Wall, and many other buildings and castles.

Ace of Spades: The Grey King, the legendary ancestor of the Ironborn, who was said to be able to breathe freely underwater, married a mermaid, and claimed the entire Sunset Sea.

Ace of Hearts: Lann the Clever, founder of House Lannister, who won Casterly Rock through trickery.

Ace of Diamonds: Garth Greenhand, the common ancestor of many nobles in the Reach, skilled in farming.

However, for the other cards from 2 to 10, because there was a clear hierarchy where one could trump another, it was difficult to decide who should represent which card.

Mufasa gave this task to Jaime, but in the end, Jaime was unable to resolve the power dynamics among the numerous knights, and so the matter was dropped.

Ultimately, only J, Q, K, and A had clear character representatives.

After the king's convoy arrived at the swamp, their speed began to decrease. The path was difficult, and many nasty beasts lurked in the marsh.

After lunch one day, Joffrey went out to relieve himself. When he finished, he saw a person with a frog in their mouth, eyes the color of moss, hanging upside down from a tree, watching him.

"Ghost!" Joffrey, terrified, didn't even tie his belt properly before running towards where the most people were.

"Hound, Hound, help me!"

The Hound was resting not far behind him, leaning against a large tree.

Hearing Joffrey's cry for help, he immediately opened his eyes.

"Your Highness, what's wrong!"

Joffrey was grabbed by his hand.

The Hound felt Joffrey's fear. He was trembling all over, his muscles constantly twitching.

"There's a ghost in the swamp! He's eating frogs!"

The Hound immediately drew his greatsword and walked step by step into the depths of the swamp.

In the treetops, a short, young boy swallowed the frog leg in his mouth.

He leaped continuously between the treetops, using vines to move, and soon he arrived at the king's convoy.

His appearance immediately scared Joffrey half to death again. Joffrey started screaming once more, and his lion, Storm, also began to roar.

"Roar! Roar! Roar!"

The other lions also started roaring.

"Stop shouting! This is a person, not a ghost. Ghosts don't have shadows. Look, he has a shadow beneath his feet, so he's not a ghost," Mufasa roared, quieting the agitated crowd, and the lions also stopped roaring.

The boy walked directly to King Robert and knelt.

"Greetings, Your Majesty! I am Jojen Reed, son of Howland Reed, Lord of Greywater Watch. I saw days ago that you would be passing through here, so I have been waiting," Jojen said.

King Robert then remembered that this was the territory of the Lord of Greywater Watch, but he also knew the situation at Greywater Watch, so it was naturally impossible for Howland Reed to invite him for a grand meal.

His convoy could not travel through the swamp, so he had not gone to Greywater Watch.

"I didn't expect Howland Reed's child to be so grown. The frog leg in your mouth fell out," Robert said.

Jojen swallowed the frog leg again. It had accidentally fallen out when he was speaking earlier.

"You said just now that you saw days ago that we would be passing through here. Are you a prophet?" Tyrion stepped forward and asked.

"I am not a prophet; I merely have green eyes," Jojen Reed said, pointing to his moss-colored eyes.

"In our North, this is called greensight. It allows one to see many things, including the past and the future! I can even see the day of my own death," Jojen Reed said.

Although he was a child, he gave the impression of an old man, very calm and unperturbed.

Unlike other children his age, like Joffrey, who had just been screaming.

"Boy, you saw the day of your death, did you? Tell me which day it is. If you don't die on that day, I'll personally send you to meet the Stranger," the Hound said, emerging from the depths of the swamp.

He had searched for a long time without finding anything, but then heard the lion's roar and returned, only to see Jojen Reed talking about seeing the day of his own death.

"The day of my death is not today," Jojen Reed said very calmly.

The Hound drew his greatsword, seemingly intending to strike, but Jojen Reed showed no fear, calmly watching him.

The Hound's greatsword stopped above Jojen Reed's head.

"I believe you are no ordinary child!" The Hound sheathed his sword.

"Are you looking for me, child?" Robert asked.

"Please let me go with you to Winterfell, please!" Jojen Reed said.

"Alright! Howland Reed and Ned are good friends, I think he'll be happy to see you!" Robert said.
