"They saw the messages Silas sent you," Soren said.
The words settled heavily in the room, sinking into me slowly, like they needed time to be understood. My mind struggled to catch up, replaying them over and over as if repetition would make them clearer. They saw the messages. The messages Silas sent me. My chest tightened, a knot forming deep in my stomach.
"How? What—I do not understand," I said.
My voice sounded distant to my own ears. How did they find out? How did they see it?
Jamie took a breath and began to narrate what had happened to me while I was unconscious.
He spoke carefully, slowly, explaining how he had picked up my phone just before he left my house. How him and Soren had seen the messages first and how Soren thought Kasteil knew and then showed them to Kasteil and then Elian and Nicholas.
I listened, but my mind latched onto only one thing.
The only thing I could think of was Kasteil saw it.
Kasteil saw the messages.
