"This is getting nowhere," Soren said, his voice firm but tired. He stood near the foot of the bed. "We'll get back to this later. I am curious about what your relationship with him is, but what we need right now is for you to give Elian and Nicholas your statement."
The word statement echoed in my head like something foreign and dangerous.
I shifted slightly against the pillows, my body still heavy, still sore in ways I didn't fully understand yet.
"I don't think I can," I said quietly. My voice sounded thin to my own ears, like it might snap if I pushed it too hard. "What would I tell them?"
Jamie answered before Soren could, his tone gentle but unyielding. "What you told us," he said. "Your statement is important."
I shook my head immediately. My fingers curled into the blanket, gripping it like an anchor. "I can't possibly tell them what Silas did to me," I said. My stomach twisted as the words left my mouth. "They're alphas. They wouldn't understand."
