I seriously wanted to disappear.
I pressed my forehead lightly against the cool glass of the window and tried to breathe through the tightness in my chest. Outside, the landscape had started to change. The trees thinned. The road curved. Somewhere ahead, the golf course waited like a quiet judgment.
The car eventually turned into the entrance, and I immediately stared out the window.
The place was huge.
The words barely did it justice. The property stretched out before us, an expanse of rolling green hills and manicured fairways that seemed to go on forever. There were people everywhere—golfers in bright polo shirts, families with children, couples walking hand in hand along the paths.
The entrance was surrounded by a massive gate where visitors had to pay for a ticket before they could enter.
We didn't have to.
The moment the people at the entrance saw Soren, they let us through.
